Everything was going fine. Once, I started my fedora 10 and I found out that no wireless driver is installed!!!
How can I check for this and fix this problem.
P.S. I am new to linux.
I'm trying to get a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.10 working with the closed Nvidia driver, as I would like to get the HDMI output working.
I have a Sony Vaio VPCCW18FX, with a Nvidia GT 230M graphics card. The open source nouveau driver works fine, but does not run smoothly. The only problem here is that it's needed to run with "nomodeset".
If i just activate the Proprietary Nvidia driver and reboot, it will hang after writing "Checking battery State [ok]". I have tried to add EDID from Windows partition, and here it hangs at a blank black/grey screen. I have tried hooking up an external display, no output on it either.
I'm new to ubuntu and using 9.10. I have installed a dlink wua 2340 wireless adaptor and it is working properly. But after waking up computer by standby mode, wireless connection breaks and the wireless device is not mounted. Therefore I always have to shut down the computer and restart again to establish wireless connection.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm new to linux. I've just installed Ubuntu 11.04. It has all been going ok, but the wireless just stopped working all of a sudden. The indicator light turned off and when I tried to turn it back on (Fn+F2) nothing happens. Sometimes, when I restart the computer, the wireless might work; but if the signal is lost the LED on my laptop turns off and I cannot reconnect. Also, in these strange cases that the wireless works when I restart I can manually turn it off (Fn+F2), but nothing happens when I try to switch it back on.
In the menu on the upper right corner I see 'Enable Networking' is checked, but 'Enable Wireless' cannot be modified.
I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 and the wireless device is an Intel Pro/Wireless 3945ABG.
I have tried to follow some of the threads on this forum on similar cases, but the ones that were comprehensible to me did not work (or I actually might not have understood them either). code...
recently switched from Ubuntu. But I'm finding it difficult to get my wireless card working. It's a Dell Wireless 1395 Wlan Mini card, but works with a broadcom driver(Ethernet card is a broadcom).

I typed in 'lspci -nn', and it seems that two things came up; a Broadcom BCM4401 and an Atheros AR2413. Does the computer have two Wifi cards? Which do I need the driver for, or both? But with 11.3, it's able to scan for my wireless network, and I see RX/TX packets moving, but DHCP isn't able to get an address. I've tried the 2010_0115_RT3562_RT3062_Linux_STA_V2.3.0.0 and 010_07_16_RT3062_Linux_STA_v2.4.0.0 drivers from the Rosewill site, and the rt3562sta-kmp-desktop-2.4.0.0_k2.6.34.0_12-1.1.i586.rpm package from Suse, all with the same result. I've even tried forcing an IP address on the interface with 'ifconfig', so my current guess is that the WPA-PSK security isn't working.

View 9 Replies View RelatedAs you might have noticed the new broadcom driver in 11.04 is not working anymore, but you can use the old one from 10.10 if you follow these steps:
1. First you need to download the old broadcom driver (10.10) here:
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/poo...untu5_i386.deb
2. Now it's time to delete the current driver:
open the console:
sudo gedit /var/lib/dpkg/status
search for "bcmwl-kernel-source" and delete the lines that are related to the driver.
3. Install the driver you have downloaded before by double-clicking the .deb file
4. Go to the Synpatic-Package-Manager and search for "bcmwl-kernel-source" again. Click on on it and go to "package" and make sure you lock it, so it won't be updated.

So I installed my wireless driver via the graphical ndiswrapper (FYI my wireless adapter is a Proxim 8424-WD). It then said "Unable to see if hardware is present". After I exited out of that message, it said "Hardware:Present" (or something of that sort) next to the newly installed driver. I tried searching for wireless networks and found none. I'm guessing something didn't work right. I used this command "lshw -C network" and got the following result.

Trying to install graphics card driver for:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G92 [GeForce 8800 GTS 512] (rev a2)
Using Administration -> Hardware Devices
I selected the recommended driver and clicked activate. Download started then failed with error message:
SystemError: Failed to fetch http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/...ntu3_amd64.deb Connection failed [IP: 91.189.88.30 80]

Tried several times now and the download doesn't even seem to start any more.
My Internet connection is 3 mobile broadband, which may have something to do with it, bit it seems to be working well at the moment.

I have tried reinstalling the NV display driver via "additional drivers" in the live CD, but they do not appear to be being retained on the HD version of Ubuntu. When I go back into the live cd the driver is not installed.
How can I switch the proprietary driver back on in the hard disk when I am running the live disk.
Is there a repair system program?
If not is there a way of forcing an upgrade on an upgraded system so that missing files are reinstalled?
If that does not work what should I do next to get the GDM to load?
I've been trying to get Full Tilt Poker running for a while now, with the 32bit wine available for x86_64, but it complains about phonon4.dll not being able to initialize. I've tried using winetricks to get it working, since it's as good a starting point as any, but even if I do the program bails out on me constantly with:

No wireless after upgrading to linux kernel 3.0 in opensuse 11.4. I'm using Kde and gnome 3, everything was working fine under the 2.6.39 kernel, but now both only detects my wired connection. Any help resolving this would be greatly appreciated. I have a Netgear WNDA3100 adapter that uses the Atheros drivers. It also is no longer detected in my Fedora 15 after upgrading the kernel, but it still works in Mint 11 with the 2.6.38.8 kernel.

From this I get that my laptop recognizes the card.
I also typed in some numbers such as SSID and DNS server address in Preferences>Network Connections where asked (although the information that I had wasn't 100% what was asked for so I tried to guess what needs to be filled in which fields).
However, I don't get an internet connection (Firefox can't find server...)
What else do I have to (or can I) do?

However, the speed I copied from one USB device to anther (both are USB 2.0 ) is around 4.4M/second, which seems to be very slow. I'm wondering if the USB driver is not powerful enough. By the way, I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 .
