Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Device Not Working After Standby / Solve This?

Feb 20, 2010

I'm new to ubuntu and using 9.10. I have installed a dlink wua 2340 wireless adaptor and it is working properly. But after waking up computer by standby mode, wireless connection breaks and the wireless device is not mounted. Therefore I always have to shut down the computer and restart again to establish wireless connection.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Quits Working After Standby

Jan 13, 2010

i am running 9.10 on a compaq 2209cl laptop. has been working great with no issues till i updated the other day. when i come out of standby (opening laptop lid, or hit the power button to wake up) my network connection does not start, and there is no wireless networks displayed. a reboot usually takes care of this prob until it goes into standby again. just wanna know if there is a way i can solve this myself or if i gotta wait for a patch? it aint too bad but is sure is annoying when i get on and off this thing all the time.

Ubuntu Networking :: Intel Pro / Wireless 3945ABG Stopped Working - Solve This?

Aug 11, 2011

I'm new to linux. I've just installed Ubuntu 11.04. It has all been going ok, but the wireless just stopped working all of a sudden. The indicator light turned off and when I tried to turn it back on (Fn+F2) nothing happens. Sometimes, when I restart the computer, the wireless might work; but if the signal is lost the LED on my laptop turns off and I cannot reconnect. Also, in these strange cases that the wireless works when I restart I can manually turn it off (Fn+F2), but nothing happens when I try to switch it back on.

In the menu on the upper right corner I see 'Enable Networking' is checked, but 'Enable Wireless' cannot be modified.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 and the wireless device is an Intel Pro/Wireless 3945ABG.
I have tried to follow some of the threads on this forum on similar cases, but the ones that were comprehensible to me did not work (or I actually might not have understood them either). code...

Ubuntu :: Laptop Standby: Wireless Tries To Connect While On Standby

Jun 27, 2010

Running Ubuntu 10.04 on a dual-boot Windows 7 laptop.

On "suspend," the wireless card appears to close connections correctly. Then, >15 minutes later, the laptop's wifi LED lights up and the laptop generates heat.

The computer should be on standby, but instead it's waking itself up and running down the battery.

Are there any programs that might be failing to suspend for sleep? Are there any settings to prevent the wifi card from waking the computer?

I only noticed this because the laptop was getting hot and the battery was wearing down.

Ubuntu Networking :: No Connection With Ralink RT2501 Wireless Card / Solve This?

Aug 29, 2010

I use Ubuntu 9.04 and try to get a Sweex LW053 USB wireless card (Ralink RT73/RT2500 chipset) to work. According to the Wiki list in the sticky thread, this one should work "out of the box" since 8.04.

lsusb delivers
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 148f:2573 Ralink Technology Corp. RT2501USB Wireless Adapter
and there is also some wlan0 entry that doesn't look too dodgy when typing ifconfig.
From this I get that my laptop recognizes the card.
I also typed in some numbers such as SSID and DNS server address in Preferences>Network Connections where asked (although the information that I had wasn't 100% what was asked for so I tried to guess what needs to be filled in which fields).
However, I don't get an internet connection (Firefox can't find server...)

What else do I have to (or can I) do?

Ubuntu :: Gnome Goes Into Standby While Working

May 25, 2011

I just switched back to Ubuntu since I got my SSD and Ubuntu feels now very nice..

I just was confronted with one problem. At my Home PC I was working normally using FileZilla and drag and dropped something from FTP to local machine, then suddently my PC locked and the Screensaver appeard. I mean this Matrix Saver is nice but not when you want to work

Then first I thought it simply locked the workspace and tried to login, but it did not accept any key input, then it just went to standby after some sec..

I really wonder how that can happen, I had deactivated automatic standby in the energy settings, because I don't use it.

Debian Configuration :: Wireless Not Working With Sid And New Device?

Dec 8, 2010

The computer networking works fine with a normal static setup, but adding a USB wireless device is not successful. It is my own network so the wpa-ssid and wpa-psk are known to work with Lenny and a previous wireless device. The device is recognized (lsusb) and the driver is confirmed to be in the kernel (lsmod). Here is the iwconfig output:

wlan0     IEEE 802.11bgn  ESSID:off/any
Mode:Managed  Access Point: Not-Associated   Tx-Power=20 dBm
Retry  long limit:7   RTS thr:off   Fragment thr:off
Encryption key:off
Power Management:off

After typing: ifconfig wlan0 192.168.1.144 up I can ping that address, but it is not working. I have just done a fresh install of Sid so that I could get the 2.6.35 kernel which contains the ath9k_htc driver for the USB wireless device that I am using. The firmware is ar9271.fw but my source of that is questionable because it does not seem readily available. I am temporarily using a PCMCIA wired connection which is what I am using to connect to the computer via telnet. (This is just for convenience so as to avoid getting up all the time.) Here is the ifconfig output:

eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:40:05:07:d9:11
inet addr:192.168.1.122  Bcast:192.168.1.255  Mask:255.255.255.0
inet6 addr: fe80::240:5ff:fe07:d911/64 Scope:Link

[code]...

That file works with the previous USB wireless device under Lenny. Am I doing something wrong or is the driver and firmware just not up to snuff yet?

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Device Not Ready?

Sep 6, 2010

I've tried to install Linux systems have been failures. Trying to make this work, trying to get on the right wagon, and it's frustrating as all get-out.

Installed netbook remix onto a HP Mini 1000 (1116NR?) and everything seems to be working alright, except no wireless networking. I tried a couple of things and now it shows "device not ready" instead of "disabled", so I figure I'm getting somewhere.

The device is:

Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g (rev 01)

I want in. This is my 3rd try over the years of running Linux and I always hit snags like this that I can't fix because I've never gotten to play with it enough to learn what I'm doing and generally don't have a 2nd computer like I do right now.

Ubuntu Networking :: Cannot Use Internal Wireless Device

It's been ages since I've been on here I've been messing around with BackTrack. I've come back to Ubuntu but seem to be having some problems getting my wireless network thingy working. Here are the specs of my system. Any advice on fixing this would be very very apprciated.

02:08.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82562ET/EZ/GT/GZ - PRO/100 VE (LOM) Ethernet Controller Mobile (rev 01)
10:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN (rev 01)

On another note I'm trying to run debain I've got no startx on there or anything like that it's feeling very basic atm. I want to keep startx outta there but I can't connect to the Internet and run apt-get install to grab handy things.

I'm hoping whatever I am gonna do to solve this on Ubuntu will let me connect up to my wireless network with the internal network thingy. However if it doesn't I'm guessin I can just connect up physically to the router. Any tips on doing this from the command line?

Ubuntu Networking :: Rtl8192 Device Not Working?

Mar 9, 2010

HeI just started up my netbook (Medion Akoya E1315), and for no apparant reason, the little icon in the top-right corner (the Network Manager) says "Device not ready" in grey. So, after looking on a million forums and websites, I decided to go for a complete re-install of Ubuntu (9.10 netbook remix). I took the same driver that always worked before (RTL8192), and installed it with succes: I had wireless again! But, of course, as these things go, after a restart of my laptop, the same problem occured. So the obvious question: What is this problem?

Here's what I did: I downloaded the tar.gz from Realtek. I downloaded RTL8192se, untarred it and gave the "insmod" command. And that worked before.I also downloaded WICD as an alternative to Network Manager, but that just gave no for an answer.

Ubuntu Networking :: Disable An On-board Wireless Device?

Nov 15, 2010

I recently bought a new nettop and installed Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop. Unfortunately the on-board wlan is kind of crap so I bought a USB Wireless stick and since that stick has a pretty recent chipset ndis was needed to get the USB stick to work as wlan1.

The issue is I want to disable the on-board wlan (wlan0). The BIOS does not offer that option so it needs to be done in the OS I guess. My question is what is the best way of doing so? I've read something about blacklisting or editing 10-wlan.rules but I am unsure what the best place is and what to put there.

This the output of ifconfig:

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Suddenly Stopped Working AND Rfkill Command Not Working

Jul 13, 2011

When originally installing 11.04 I had problems getting my Ralink 5390 wireless card to work.

Today my computer froze completely and I had to turn it off via the power switch. When I turned it back on, wireless was no longer recognized! My iPod can connect to the network just fine, so it must be an Ubuntu problem. There are no problems with my ethernet connection either.

I researched this and found several threads about blocking and unblocking wireless devices using the rfkill command. Well, unfortunately for me the rfkill command doesn't work. When I type sudo rfkill list or sudo rfkill unblock all, nothing happens; it just returns me to my bash prompt. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling rfkill...nothing.
