My local subnet (NAT'ed by my gateway router) is 192.168.52.x. My router has been configured with a conduit (port-forward) for port 1194 (the standard OpenVPN port), which points towards my CentOS server.The CentOS server is .52.112, and the supplicant is .52.110. I have tried the lient both inside and outside my local subnet, with no difference in events or outcomes.

Oct 4, 2010I've tried to read many of the topics in this forum first and tried to find a solution to my problem, but can't find one.I'm testing CentOS 5.5, it's the first time I'm using a CentOS Linux release.I'm trying to configure the proxy "client side " on it and cannot find how to do it.On other Linux release I've used the ENV variable like "http_proxy" or "HTTP_PROXY" etc etc.This time, I don't know why but it doesn't work.I've put the name and @ip of the proxy in /etc/hosts and tried different version upper/lowercase of "http_proxy" "HTTP_proxy" "ftp_pr.." but it doesn't work.If I configure manually Firefox and puting the name or @ip of the proxy we have on our network, it works.But if I try to use ENV variable it doesn't work...

But on CentOs , users couldn't login using nis username.I have mounted home directory using nfs in fstab . I can switch to nis users homedirectory only when i am root. But nis users could'nt login on reboot.' ypcat passwd username ' is showing the output . No selinux is enabled in the client .Is there is any problem with Suse server to Centos Client in nis ??

Oct 15, 2009While I was tweaking 5.3 to get it up to speed on a couple of servers, I used to make some use of IRC 9#centos). Haven't looked at it for a while. Decided to fire it up again tonite, only to find things...have changed. Now there is seems to be 2 channels: #centos and #centos-unregistered. I *was* already registered with nickserv, but that didn't seem to work anymore. Re-registered, but am still seeing no traffic at all. My irc client (chatzilla) suggests there are lots of users 'online', but still - not seeing any traffic at all.

Nov 30, 2010I just installed the CentOs 5.5 on my laptop (windows7 + vmware workstation 7), I used host only, the centos could connect only with my laptop. After installation , I 'd like to admin CentOs by putty or ssh client, so I configured the sshd_config. I configured the file like this:

UseDNS no
PasswordAuthentication yes
but I could not log in successfully , the connection was refused all the time. I can ping the Centos from my windows7; I can telnet ip 22 , the Openssh could appear; the /var/log/security looks no problem ; but I just couldn't log in the system. How can I do?

CentOS 5 :: Changing Volume Via MPD Client
Aug 19, 2010I am currently using an M-Audio 7.1 PCI sound card on a headless non-GUI Centos5.5 install. MPD is running in the background for jukebox usage. The problem is, I seem to be at 100% volume output on the jukebox and I can't figure out how to change volume. Using alsaunmute to set volume sets some kind of volume on the soundcard, from what I can tell, but it's like that new volume setting is not being respected by ALSA. I can also set the volume using 'alsamixer' which also produces no noticable effect (100% is the same as 0%, as loud as could be from the PC).
I'm using the digital coax output from the soundcard for this - not the 3.5mm jack (due to stereo reasons beyond my control). Perhaps I'm not modifying the master volume? Thing is, when modify volume settings via an MPD client, such as Minion or one on my phone,�the volume setting does change in the ALSA software, but there's no audible difference. It makes me think alsa is not being used for sound control, but I'm stumped as to how to check otherwise. At least sound plays!

Sep 2, 2009im centos 5.3 At first, I used pptp-1.7.2-3.rhel5.i386.rpm from [URL]. But it didn't appear any process of install without a warning about the key problem, and I can't use rpm -e to uninstall it, I just uninstall it from xwindow. Then, I download the pptp-1.7.2-3.tar.gz from [URL] After make and make install, it appeared a problem when i do # pptpsetup --create tunnelname --server xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx --username somebody --password sercet。It told me "./pptpsetup: couldn't find MPPE support in kernel."
But im centos 5.3,and uanme -a: Linux localhost.localdomain 2.6.18-128.el5 #1 SMP Wed Jan 21 10:44:23 EST 2009 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux The kernal is support MPPE, and I have reinstalled the ppp-2.4.4.2-el5.rf.i386.

everytime I mount my client with proto=tcp I can't mount nfs4 exports directory
but if i change to proto=udp no problem mounting nfs4 export to client

CentOS 5 :: Openldap Client Won't Bind To Server
Jul 2, 2011I can't get the client server to authenticate to the openldap server. I can authenticate on the server itself though. I can su to, login and shh into the openldap server and become a ldap user. I just can't become an ldap user on the client.I didn't setup TLS/SSL. I can do that after I have it working. I'm using hashed passwords though. I don't have replication setup. I'm am tying to setup the most basic openldap environment then build from there. I have read the openldap section in the admin guide.
My setup at home.
Openldap server � light.deathnote.net -- 10.0.1.21
client server � vm-centos01.deathnote.net � 10.0.1.7 -- VM on virtualbox
Virtualbox host � L (OS MAC) � 10.0.1.2
router (apple airport extreme) / default gatway � 10.0.1.1
All computer can reach the internet and ping each other. When I installed centos I disabled SELinux.I used these guids to setup my openldap.

Mar 12, 2011i have a centos 5.5 server running tomcat,oracle xe,apache etc..i would like to be able my windows machine to access this server by name, and not ip, for example have http://backserv:7080 for oracle xe web admin and so on..i know one way is DNS, but if i install oracle on a windows machine in peer-to-peer network, i can allready access with by it's name. o i'm guessing i should do something with samba, wins or something like that.never mind i got now for the REAL complex stuff of insalling web sphere 7 without user interface (need to look for a response file).

Feb 27, 2009I'm carrying out a project for my university (CIT in Cork, Ireland) and I'm using CentOS running over WMware. I have a server and a client. The server has no GUI (command line UI) while the client has a UI. I need to install a Simple Forum Machine application and I'm told to FTP the files into the server. I figured out that the best option is to load the files in the client via the GUI and then ftp them in the server. How do I transfer the files from a the client t o the server using FTP? I'm totally new to Linux so the more details the better. Also I'm trying to mount a USB key on the server but have had no luck.

Jul 23, 2009I have Centos 5 installed on a PC in the local network. I have installed the RPM dhcpv6-client-1.0.10-16.el5.i386.rpm on this PC to configure it as DHCP V6 client. The RPM was installed successfully, and I have done modifications to the following files:
1. /etc/sysconfig/network, set the networking to yes.
2. /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1 set the BOOTPROTO=DHCP.
Now the problem is when I start the client on this pc as dhclient, it throws the following errors, and logs out after some time. All the network configurations were lost and the PC gets disconnected from the network.
