So, I employed the update. Problem is, I do not see this as an installed application. TRANSMISSION is not listed in any submenu under the Applications menu OR Add/Remove.

Feb 10, 2011I currently use Deluge for torrents, and I have many torrents which I would like to keep seeding 24/7 on my desktop computer. This machine is on 24/7, and has many users, both locally (using the standard Ubuntu GUI on a monitor, keyboard, and mouse hooked to the actual machine) and remotely (via ssh). My point is that this is a multiuser system. I am the administrator/have root access.
Anyway, the point is, I would like to run a BitTorrent client on this system without having to have any user logged in just to sustain it. Currently, the only way I know of keeping BitTorrent active at all times is to log in locally via the GUI, turn on Deluge, and then hit "lock screen," protecting my session and allowing others to log in locally as well while I'm gone (via "Switch User"). It is a big drain on system resources to have me logged in all the time (especially with a GUI).
I think I have explained the problem...Is there a solution? I use Deluge and like it, so I'd like to stick with it, but if there is a better option for this purpose, I am willing to switch.

Aug 13, 2011I have Ubuntu on my notebook. I wanted to install a torrent client on my external HDD. Can I install a client and then just move it to the HDD?If so, how can I find where the app is installed? I really think that synaptic should show me where the hell it installed the application.

Oct 1, 2010I am trying to install a torrent client (I don't know which is best for Linux Mint).
I've tried Bit Torrent and Ktorrent.
When I download these files they come like something that reads: ktorrent-4.0.3.tar.bz2
I open the folder and it contains a bunch of files that I have no idea what to do with.
I've been a Windows user all of my life, so I'm basically used to just being able to install software within a few clicks.
I guess what I want to know here is how I am supposed to install ANY software on Linux.
I have Linux Mint (If that makes a difference).
Networking :: Configure Torrent Client To Use Particular Interface
Jun 30, 2010I am using two ethernet interface, in fact one ethernet interface eth0 and other is USB netconenct ppp0. I am using fedora 12 - 32 bit. I can individually use both connections. say if I disconnect ppp0 (wvdialer), everything works fine and same in other case. Now my problem is I want torrent client to use ppp0 and all other applications like firefox and other use eth0. So that I can use both interfaces effectively.
I changed in ktorrent client's configuration, and change interface to ppp0 from all interface, but it didnt work. When my eth0 id down I can ping using ppp0, but when eth0 is also up, I can ping via eth0 but not via ppp0 (ping xxxxx -I interface). What is I am doing wrong? How can I configure torrent client to use ppp0?

I'm looking for this because my sister doesn't want to look for downloads on a torrent site, she just wants to stay in the program. Personally, I don't mind the current method, but I do understand the irritation when all you've even known is Limewire (and derivatives). I simply made the jump, but I agree that initially, it was jarring. I know that uTorrent has a search function, but it opens a web browser to search, and that's not what I'm looking for.

May 1, 2010I have quite fast Internet connection, 100mbit, and I'm able to take advantage of the entire bandwidth that I'm paying for. When I, however, use Transmission as torrent client and download a torrent faster than, 7-8 Mbyte/second, my hard drive is spinning all the time and my desktop becomes sporadically unresponsive, load average gets high and I'm pretty much sure the Transmission-application is the cause to this, somehow. It must be some strange way it cashes stuff...I don't know.
I'm, either way, not experiencing anything like that with any other torrent client in Linux (or Windows for that matter). It's not that I'm tied to Transmission, in fact, I prefer rtorrent and use it anytime I can, it's just that some stupid torrent sites are giving me Transmission as the only client option when I'm using Linux, so I have to stick to it those times. I have quite fast system, Core Duo 3ghz, 4gb ram, 500 gb 7200rpm 16MB cache WD hard drive, etc...so the hardware certainly shouldn't be a problem.

I learned that you can install plugins for Azureus/Vuze. There is one about scheduling. I've tried to install it but I got a NullPointerException.

When creating their account, I have turned off the 'Connect to ethernet and wireless' option of the Advanced Settings.
However, when I log into their accounts, they still have full access to the internet through both the wireless and ethernet connections. Is this option for some other purpose?
Is there an alternate way to limit internet access for childrens' accounts in Ubuntu? (I'm used to MS Family Safety as a filter for internet access - is there an eqivalent for Ubuntu?)

Dec 29, 2010I have 2 WD20EARS hard drives on the way (2 TB green WD disks with 4k sectors) and I'll be installing Centos 5.5 in RAID1 on them (2 partitions, one 16 GB / at the beginning and the rest in its own partition). I read the following thread: [URL]
and it seems that I might be having problems with the 4k sectors (Advanced Drive Format in WD lingo). I'm confused as to what exactly to do. I was thinking of downloading Fedora 14 Live CD and partitioning there and then switching to Centos 5.5 to install. Will that work? Seems I want the md 0.9 metadata because it doesn't have the space limit for me (2 TB) and it's stored at the end of the partition so it avoids alignment issues. Will I be able to make that happen with Fedora 14?
