Oct 29, 2009My web server has Centos 5.3 installed and uses webmin for the administration.Recently the login hangs on a black background with the mouse animation.After a long time I get the message "The greeter application appears to be crashing. Attempting to use a different one."I click OK and the message just repeats.
The web server is running fine and all the applications are still active.I can access the server via SSH.Also, I can login via my vncserver from another computer and access the gnome and kde interfaces.

Ubuntu :: Give Two Client Users Permission To Access Their File System?
May 1, 2011The desktop computer of my two children has a total of three users:
1) The superuser (me)
2) The user 1001 (my elder son)
3) The user 1002 (my younger son)
Both users 1001 and 1002 can not access their files system, and also they can not save any attachments from incoming mails.
What I tried so far:
I accessed the file manager as superuser, and went: >Root>Home. Here I right-clicked on the folder User 1001, selected properties, selected the tab 'permissions' and allowed this user to read and write into this folder. I also checked the checkbox �extend this permission to all subfolders and its contents.
The problem is, when I reboot, everything is 'forgotten' and I am at quadrant zero again.
Eventually I should state that part of the folders are from a backup drive, because the hard disk had to be replaced so, once I re-installed the OS on the new hard drive, I copied the folders from the backup drive into the home folder.
One last question:
Is there a good tutorial about permissions?

Nov 24, 2009I'm running VNC Server on CentOS5 on a brand new installation, this is for some of my students to use specific software via VNC on their machines from home that they otherwise don't have access to on their Windows machines. This has been working fine on our previous server for a few years but the hardware is now outdated so I have upgraded and put a fresh install of CentOS 5 on. This works fine for about 24 hours and then eventually one of the session ends up freezing where the user then can see everything on their session, the cursor can move but they cant click a single thing.

My issue is whenever my client leases, the server gave the last available IP. eg. my dhcp ip range is 192.168.1.10 to 192.168.1.100, the server gave me 192.168.1.100, then 192.168.1.99 for the second machine. How to configure the dhcp to give the front numbers, eg 192.168.1.10 first, then 192.168.1.11 and so on. P.S. Connection to the server will be made using SSH and a set of keys. In windows i use WinCVS without problems but i never had to set up a client in linux.

I have a Trust PW-4120M UPS plugged into the AMD box via a serial cable.I have installed nut on both systems from the repositories (with "apt-get instal nut") and configured the AMD system as follows:

I'm guessing this is a permissions issue but I've been unable to find any info on this after extensive searching of Google. As far as I can tell (ie. Oct 10, 2010We have several FC machines (from 6 to 12) that use an OpenLDAP server running on Centos 5.4 for authentication. I have now tried setting up a FC13 workstation. I notice that the authentication GUI has changed and wants me to use Kerberos or a TLS enabled server. Is there a way to get FC13 to behave like FC12 in this respect. Or (less desirable) what changes do I have to make to the server to accommodate FC13?
The workstation knows who the users are, but will not authenticate if they try and log in.

Jun 30, 2010I am using two ethernet interface, in fact one ethernet interface eth0 and other is USB netconenct ppp0. I am using fedora 12 - 32 bit. I can individually use both connections. say if I disconnect ppp0 (wvdialer), everything works fine and same in other case. Now my problem is I want torrent client to use ppp0 and all other applications like firefox and other use eth0. So that I can use both interfaces effectively.
I changed in ktorrent client's configuration, and change interface to ppp0 from all interface, but it didnt work. When my eth0 id down I can ping using ppp0, but when eth0 is also up, I can ping via eth0 but not via ppp0 (ping xxxxx -I interface). What is I am doing wrong? How can I configure torrent client to use ppp0?
