I have a problem about installing DHCPv6 on CentOS . I have 2 machines,a machine is DHCPv6 server and another is DHCPv6 client,they are in the same network.I configure 2 machines as the following link :[URL]
But,the client machine doesn't get a ipv6 from server.
does anybody have a nice tutorial about creating and installing Apache client certificate (PKCS12) ? I`m looking for some tutorials to CentOS. This what I have found on the internet for some reasons doesnt work. Or maybe somebody could write here how to do it?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Nis server on Suse 11 which is configured using Yast and nis clients on Suse and CentOs .All clients which is on the Suse Os is working fine. But on CentOs , users couldn't login using nis username.I have mounted home directory using nfs in fstab . I can switch to nis users homedirectory only when i am root. But nis users could'nt login on reboot.' ypcat passwd username ' is showing the output . No selinux is enabled in the client .Is there is any problem with Suse server to Centos Client in nis ??

Users, passwords and permissions are entered on the server machine.users and passwords ( same as on the server ) are entered in the XP client machine.When attempting to access a public file on the server using a XP client machine and the IP address of my server, I am asked a user name and password and none of the already entered seem to work. I can't get the client server to authenticate to the openldap server. I can authenticate on the server itself though. I can su to, login and shh into the openldap server and become a ldap user. I just can't become an ldap user on the client.I didn't setup TLS/SSL. I can do that after I have it working. I'm using hashed passwords though. I don't have replication setup. I'm am tying to setup the most basic openldap environment then build from there. I have read the openldap section in the admin guide.
My setup at home.
Openldap server � light.deathnote.net -- 10.0.1.21
client server � vm-centos01.deathnote.net � 10.0.1.7 -- VM on virtualbox
Virtualbox host � L (OS MAC) � 10.0.1.2
router (apple airport extreme) / default gatway � 10.0.1.1
All computer can reach the internet and ping each other. When I installed centos I disabled SELinux.I used these guids to setup my openldap.

i have a centos 5.5 server running tomcat,oracle xe,apache etc..i would like to be able my windows machine to access this server by name, and not ip, for example have http://backserv:7080 for oracle xe web admin and so on..i know one way is DNS, but if i install oracle on a windows machine in peer-to-peer network, i can allready access with by it's name. o i'm guessing i should do something with samba, wins or something like that.never mind i got now for the REAL complex stuff of insalling web sphere 7 without user interface (need to look for a response file).

The server has no GUI (command line UI) while the client has a UI. I need to install a Simple Forum Machine application and I'm told to FTP the files into the server. I figured out that the best option is to load the files in the client via the GUI and then ftp them in the server. How do I transfer the files from a the client t o the server using FTP? I'm totally new to Linux so the more details the better. Also I'm trying to mount a USB key on the server but have had no luck.

im centos 5.3 At first, I used pptp-1.7.2-3.rhel5.i386.rpm from [URL]. But it didn't appear any process of install without a warning about the key problem, and I can't use rpm -e to uninstall it, I just uninstall it from xwindow. Then, I download the pptp-1.7.2-3.tar.gz from [URL] After make and make install, it appeared a problem when i do # pptpsetup --create tunnelname --server xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx --username somebody --password sercet。It told me "./pptpsetup: couldn't find MPPE support in kernel."
But im centos 5.3,and uanme -a: Linux localhost.localdomain 2.6.18-128.el5 #1 SMP Wed Jan 21 10:44:23 EST 2009 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux The kernal is support MPPE, and I have reinstalled the ppp-2.4.4.2-el5.rf.i386.
My office is on migrating to UNIX system. I am configuring Centos as our server including some program will be running on it. But one of the problem is we use foxpro for operating some program on server directly. I can run that program on Centos using DOSBox. My question is how can i run that program on winxp client that connected to network through samba to that program on server? so my plan is just give the shortcut and link it to server. I'm looking for a way to configure DHCP client so it would dynamically set the hostname and register itself to a DNS server. I don't have access to the DNS server.
I set up a L2TP/IPsec VPN server using xl2tpd and racoon on CentOS 5.5.
Now clients can successfully dial up to the server, but I can't find a way to know who connects to my server.
Is there any method or command to show l2tp client's information, such as his IP address, username.
I am bit new to Linux and have setup caching-only name server with Centos 5.5. when i do dig server, it provide resolutions. but when i use the server IP as DNS on my windows client, it says, "connection refused" on the NSlookup output. (IP table didn't enable) My server Ip is 192.168.1.253 and bellow is the configuration of "/var/named/chroot/etc/named.conf"

So I've configured ldap on Centos5 64 bit and I can run "ldap search" and "gentent passwd" on the client/server and it shows my users info.
But I can't login via the cli or GUI.
I can login by doing;
su - username
at the client or server but I can't login by issuing;
login username
or at the GUI login screen.
I'm trying to set up a VPN connection between our CentOS 5.3 server at work and my bosses XP computer at home. At this point, we are kinda locked into Quickbooks. I'm testing the connection from my XP boot at home to see if it works. I can log into our servicemanuals easily enough from XP at home however, the windows takes forever to update. I have the Samba server only listening on port 445 because is seems to work more efficiently at work. I connect to the Samba shares via linux from home and everything works well but, when I try to do anything with the shares from Windows client at home, it's very slow!
I'm thinking that it must have something either to do with the Windows OpenVPN client or the client.conf file. Is there anything I should look at in the .conf file for answers?
I have a white slate centos 5.5 installation on a virtual box at Media Temple (one of their new VE servers). I am trying to create a development environment where I can have Bind9 serve up one set of zone files to me and other developers on the internal network and another set of zone files to external requests (ie... using the views feature). I would like to be able to develop for sites for which the dns is not yet pointed at my server. The network is created by having the VE server be an OpenVPN server, and connecting my client box to the server (my mac - 10.8.0.6 / my ve server 10.8.0.1).
I have the connections working fine, I have also been able to route all network traffic from my mac through the vpn to the server. For some reason, I cannot get the DNS server on the ve server to serve me an internal view zone file. When my vpn is on, I cannot ping or navigate to any web pages from my mac. I think this is because my ve server is not setup as a dhcp server and the ip tables are not setup to allow all internal requests to use the server to go get web pages.
I cannot view-ping anything else from my mac/client when on the vpn, I can successfully ping any website my ve is authoritative for. This tells me that my ping is obviously going over the vpn, and thus an internal request, but the external zone file is still served up. The following is my named config.

Here's my problem:I have a foomatic hpijs cups-driver for a HP Inkjet (Non-PS printer) installed. Printing from UNIX-hosts works. I have cups configured not to allow raw-printing (/etc/cups/mime.types: #application/octet-stream, /etc/cups/mime.convs: #application/octet-stream).I have now installed samba-printing, the cups PS-drivers plus the Windows PS-drivers are populated to /etc/samba/drivers/W32X86/ and get pushed to the WIN-Client.Problem is that when I print from a WINXP client, the printer outputs heaps of Postscript-text instead of my page.I have tried to debug this a bit but fail to find anything really useful. My observations so far:
- The samba-pushed HP_Photosmart_3300.ppd (in both /etc/samba/drivers/... and in the resulting dir on the WINXP client) reads:

Summary: Does a discrepancy between MySQL client library 5.0.x and MySQL server of 5.1.50 cause "inconsistent behavior", as reported by phpMyAdmin? The longer version: Windows Sysadmin taking the plunge into Linux. I tried to spare you all the rookie questions and did a fair bit of reading. I'm rather happy I was able to get CentOS 5.5 installed and running, configured iptables, got the kernel updated, Apache, MySQL and PHP installed. Then upgraded PHP to 5.2 after I figured out how repos and priorities work.
I got phpMyAdmin installed and running, then decided to upgrade from 2.11 to 3.3.7 but it keeps complaining that my MySQL client libraries are something like 5.0.63, while my server is 5.1.50, and this may cause "inconsistent behavior" or something of the like. So, feeling industrious, I decided to find an updated client.
MySQL-client-community-5.1.50-1.rhel5.i386.rpm
But it wouldn't let me install it as it conflicted with the default mysql-server installation. I also couldn't remove just the old client, to update to a newer one. So I blew away everything mysql on my server and installed the above client

and that server file. I'm assuming I'm missing dependencies now as phpMyAdmin claims it can't load the mysql extension. Attempting to 'yum' php-mysql tried to install 'mysql' as a dependency, which immediately conflicted with the files I'd installed. At this point I'm wondering if I'm closing in on successfully installing a version that phpMyAdmin doesn't complain about, or if I should even care that it is complaining and just go back to all the repo versions of everything.

how to use a ftp client on CENTOS. Can a client like filezilla can be installed and used on centos or is there a built in client to be used. If so how?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to install and configure LTSP on a server for a HP thin client to boot off. The version of Ubuntu that I am using is 11.04 x86 and it is a fresh install on a dual core system with 2GB RAM. I followed a guide which comprised of these commands.
sudo apt-get install ltsp-server-standalone openssh-server sudo ltsp-build-client or if your on a 64-bit system with 32-bit machines do sudo ltsp-build-client arch i386 for editing the servers IP values use /etc/ltsp/dhcpd.conf after that you need to restart DHCP server sudo /etc/init.d/dhcp3-server restart
and update sshkeys -sudo ltsp-update-sshkeys and if you updated dhcpd.conf then you need to update you image also by typing in terminal ltsp-update-image
Everything seemed to install as it should but when I try to boot from the thin client it just times out and says no DHCP or proxy invites received. I turned DHCP off on the router and even tried another router, but I still get nothing. I am at a bit of a loose end and I hope someone on here can point me in the right direction of where I am going wrong.
