Networking :: PPTP Client Fails To Connect To Microsoft ISA PPTP Server?

Sep 17, 2009

I'm trying to connect to a Microsoft ISA PPTP server from my Linux box. The box I'm connecting from is itself a router. I have no problem connecting a Windows XP machine to the VPN via this machine. This is fine, but I would rather connect via the Linux machine, giving me far more advanced routing options (i.e. no to send every packet from the XP box completely unnecessarily via the PPTP tunnel). The Linux router is running Debian Lenny.

I've checked iptables. There were initially some issues. I've fixed those.

Invoking pppd from the console, I can see that authentication succeeds, but then some negotiation goes wrong and the server terminates the connection. Here's the output from pppd, with the more sensitive stuff removed:

Code:
<hostname>:~# pppd call <peer> nodetach debug
using channel 19
Using interface ppp0
Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/pts/2
sent [LCP ConfReq id=0x1 <asyncmap 0x0> <magic 0xe3e45f75> <pcomp> <accomp>]

Ubuntu Networking :: Using Network Manager PPTP Client While Accessing SSH / Apache From Public Internet

Oct 27, 2010

I've searched the forums (250 thread limit) for a fix on this, but all the questions seem unanswered or unrelated. My situation is this: I'm running Ubuntu x64 10.10 'Maverick'. I have a cablemodem connection for my Internet access. I have home network running on DD-WRT with the dreadful Linksys WRT54G series router.

My DD-WRT router is 192.168.1.1, subnet 255.255.255.0.
My Linux box is 192.168.1.61, subnet 255.255.255.0.

I have a VyprVPN connection set up successfully on Linux. Mostly everything works great, speed's fine, latency is what I expect it to be. Except... I also run an SSH server to remotely admin the box at port 22, an Apache server running over SSL at port 7001, and a Transmission web client at port 7002 (only secured by basic HTTP realms auth). All of these things worked before I got the VPN working, I'm of course using NAT at the DD-WRT router.

The endresult I am looking for, is to have the security and protection of the VPN (even if it's only perceived) for everything I do on this machine -- EXCEPT on Apache, the Transmission web panel, and the SSH server, which I want to access from the outside world. I have no firewalls running or configured, not even iptables, not even the SPI firewall on DD-WRT. All connections to the aforementioned services from the outside world timeout coming in to the Linux box. They all work from inside my home network (182.168.1.0/24). In case it's needed, he's my routing:

CentOS 5 Networking :: Pptp Vpn Not Working ?

Jul 16, 2011

I can't get the CentOS version of pptpd to work. I have a Debian 6 one with the exact same setup that does work. The required port is open according to various external port checking websites. It's giving me random errors when trying to connect, including 800, 809, 619. This is what I did so far;

Step 1. Installing pptpd the pptpd is the daemon that runs the pptp server.

To install this:

Step2. Next you will need to modify the pptpd.conf

Step 3. The vpn server is now configured and now you must setup authenticated users:

Step 4. When pptpd was installed it started automatically so we will need to restart it to apply the changes:

Now, if you would like to add internet access over this vpn, you can do this:

And find the line for ipv4 forwarding and make sure it = 1:

Then use iptables to get the net forwarded:

CentOS 5 Networking :: OpenVPN Doesn't Work On CentOS 5.3 With Windows Client?

Jun 27, 2009

This will be a little long (having read Phil's 'how to ask questions' FAQ). I'm trying to get OpenVPN working between my CentOS server and some Windoze laptops running XP. There seems to be plenty of sample
config files available, but to date, none of them have worked for me. Pulling out my trusty Wireshark, I've found some clues,

BACKGROUND:
My local subnet (NAT'ed by my gateway router) is 192.168.52.x. My router has been configured with a conduit (port-forward) for port 1194 (the standard OpenVPN port), which points towards my CentOS server.The CentOS server is .52.112, and the supplicant is .52.110. I have tried the lient both inside and outside my local subnet, with no difference in events or outcomes.

General :: How To Connect PPTP VPN In Centos

Mar 9, 2011

I need to configure Point to point tunnel protocol (PPTP) vpn in centos.

In Windows XP:

We can able to configure PPTP Vpn like this.

" 1. Open the Windows Control Panel.

2. Open the Network Connections item in Control Panel. A list of existing dial-up and LAN connections will appear.

3. Choose the 'Create a new connection' item from the left-hand side of the window. The Windows XP New Connection Wizard will appear on the screen.

4. First click Next to begin the wizard, then choose the 'Connect to the network at my workplace' item from the list and click Next.

5. On the Network Connection page of the wizard, choose the 'Virtual Private Network connection' option and click Next.

6. Enter a name for the new VPN connection in the 'Company Name' field and click Next. The name chosen need not match the name of an actual business.

7. Choose an option on the 'Public Network' screen and click Next. The default option, 'Automatically dial this initial connection' can be used if the VPN connection will always be initiated when the computer is not already connected to the Internet. Otherwise, choose the 'Do not dial the initial connection' option. This option requires that the public Internet connection be established first, before this new VPN connection will be initiated.

8. Enter the name or IP address of the VPN remote access server to connect to, and click Next. Company network administrators will provide this information.

9. Choose an option on the "Connection Availability" screen and click Next. The default option, 'My Use Only,' ensures that Windows will make this new connection available only to the currently logged on user. Otherwise, choose the 'Anyone's use' option.

10. Click Finish to complete the wizard. The new VPN connection information has been saved."

But in Centos how we can able to configure PPTP VPN for this we need to install any package. I got all the vpn access credentials from my office to work from home, but i cant able to join in my office network. because of this prob.

iam using : CentOS release 5.4 (Final) versing os

Now the problem is when I start the client on this pc as dhclient, it throws the following errors, and logs out after some time. All the network configurations were lost and the PC gets disconnected from the network.

CentOS 5 Networking :: Wifi Client To Access Internet Via Laptop?

I have a Centos5.4 64bit laptop, having an eth0 and a wlan0. I connect this wired eth0 to a wall socket to access Internet via DHCP (eg the assigned address is like 192.168.192.xx). I do not have access to the ADSL router. How can I turn this laptop into a Wifi access point to allow, say my Ipad or any wireless-only client, to access the Internet thru this laptop ?

That is, communication between iPad to laptop is wifi(ad-hoc connection ??), laptop to the ADSL router is wired LAN. The laptop need to have some bridging build in ? If you can refer me some concepts, then I can follow up from there.

Or better yet, has anybody does this before ?
