View 7 RepliesHow can I change the default file manager in GNOME? I've got these notes but neither methods work:
GUI
Change under 'Session control' in 'Ubuntu Tweak'
Delete nautilus and type in pcmanfm or another file manager such as thunar
Apply
Quit ubuntu-tweak
Reboot
TERMINAL:
Code:
gksu gedit /usr/share/applications/nautilus-folder-*handler.desktop
Then replace 'nautilus --no-desktop %U' to whatever you like. Example: pcmanfm %U
Save, logout & login
Update: This works. Why does the Ubuntu Tweak method not work though?
Code:
sudo gedit /usr/share/applications/nautilus-folder-*handler.desktop
I recently decided to install xfce-desktop as a fallback alternative whenever Gnome 3 has problems. Now I have the Thunar file manager opening up by default even when logged into Gnome (for example when using Alt-F2 and typing in a folder name, or when plugging in an iPod.) I've searched around for days but can't find any place to set a default file manager. The Default Applications dialogue doesn't include file manager, only web browser, video etc.)
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to have the default 10.04 file explorer ignore capitals?
eg: If i have the files
BOB_1
BOB_2
BOB_3
bob_4
bob_5
bob_6
Ubuntu by default lists them in order starting with the lowercase letters 4-6, followed by the upper-case letters 1-3. I want them to be displayed in the order listed above.
If this isn't possible, can I rename every single file in a folder to be made up of only caps?
I'm trying to set krusader as my default file manager. I have gone into System Settings > Default Applications > File Manager and changed Dolphin to Krusader.
When I plug in a flash card the Device Notifier pops up and I click on the device inserted. The choices I get are Digikam, Dolphin, and Do Nothing.
I click on "Dolphin" (hard coded it appears) and it looks like Krusader tries to start. I get the cursor with the bouncing krusader mini-icon and an entry in the panel, but then nothing happens. It all goes away and I'm left with a blank screen (wallpaper, actually).
I've chosen Krusader from the menu, so presumably the arguments to it are good. I have KDE 4.3.3 and krusader 2.0.0.
In my top bar (where i also have the, bluetooth, sound time and date and so on icons) i have lost my icon to manage my network. Wired, wireless and VPN. How do i get it back?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI think I made one tweak too far and as a result have lost my desktop - no top panel, launcher just a blank screen with my desktop background. I've created a new user and everything is fine under that account so I don't think it is terminal. which files I should delete/replace to restore the desktop back to it's default settings? I've deleted the .gnome2, .gconf and .gconfd folders but that has not solved the problem.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI want to make gnome shell my default window manager. I have it installed, and can get it to run from the terminal with gnome-shell --replace.
the effects aren't permanent though. I tried setting gnome-shell to be a start up application but this hasn't worked. I dont want to remove compiz or metacity before knowing if I can get gnome-shell to run by default somehow.
So, how can I get gnome-shell to be my default windows manager?
Spent the past hour trying to figure this out, it's not happening. I have no menu bars in programs or em, file explorer?
Ex: I open playonlinux and at the top.. no file | tools | edit | etc. | etc.
This is on pinguy (ubuntu) btw.
After trying to backup my hard drive on my HP Mini 210-1054TU notebook PC, On start up the users menu comes up (A little changed) and when I sign in it comes back with a window flag that say: The configuration defaults for GNOME power manager have not been installed correctly.I can booth with a stick and see my files and directory but, I am not allowed to open any. There is no access to a terminal or anything but, the users menu. It appears to take the password as, if not right, it would say so but, only comes back with same menu and window flag.Ironic, I was trying to backup my files so I would not lose them.

I have installed PCMan File Manager as the default file manager for the LXDE and not Thunar or Dolphin, but, I have a problem with opening files from there. The default application set to open all file types is the Terminal.
What I currently do to open the file is right click and choose "Open with.." to open the file in the appropriate application. Is there a way to set the default applications?

View 2 Replies View RelatedHow do I change the default file associations in F15/gnome 3? My system is currently set to open .tex files with emacs. But I prefer TeXworks, and while TeXworks shows up in the "Open With" menu, it would be convenient if double-clicking on a tex file opened it in TeXworks. In gnome2, the "Open with-->Other application" option let me select the default program associated with a particular type of file, but this functionality seems to be gone in Gnome 3. Do I have to edit some config file?

During the installation I got a pop up box telling me that KDE has determined I had some sound drivers that were not necessary and should I let the program uninstall these files. I ran some commands in the terminal and found that the system isn't recognizing any soundcard.

So I've got a 500gb ext4 formatted drive I use for backup, and I'm trying save my personal files from my laptop's hard drive (the laptop power supply just died) but whenever I try to copy+paste something from the NTFS laptop drive to the ext4 drive, nautilus freezes up, and suddenly both of my CPU cores hit 100% and Ubuntu is using 1.6GB of RAM, from like 200MB when it's idle.
