Fedora :: Make The File Explorer Only Use Browse Mode?
Aug 23, 2009
In fedora, to use browse mode, you have to right click on a folder and choose browse. How can I make that the default option, like in Ubuntu if that rings a bell on what I am talking about. Every time I double click a folder I would like browse mode.
I know this is not a win-doze forum but i always ask my questions here so here goes.I am having what appears to be a DNS problem on a friends laptop. He is running windows XP. I CAN connect to networks and even ping websites but i CANNOT browse in Internet Explorer or FIrefox.
how do I make grub boot to allow me to choose, like safe mode and normal mode and all that second, how do I do automated back ups (preferably using file copy) for something like every sunday at 11:00 am using the command line, i use to know but forgot.
Is there a way to have the default 10.04 file explorer ignore capitals?
eg: If i have the files
BOB_1 BOB_2 BOB_3 bob_4 bob_5 bob_6
Ubuntu by default lists them in order starting with the lowercase letters 4-6, followed by the upper-case letters 1-3. I want them to be displayed in the order listed above.
If this isn't possible, can I rename every single file in a folder to be made up of only caps?
Spent the past hour trying to figure this out, it's not happening. I have no menu bars in programs or em, file explorer? Ex: I open playonlinux and at the top.. no file | tools | edit | etc. | etc. This is on pinguy (ubuntu) btw.
So I've got a 500gb ext4 formatted drive I use for backup, and I'm trying save my personal files from my laptop's hard drive (the laptop power supply just died) but whenever I try to copy+paste something from the NTFS laptop drive to the ext4 drive, nautilus freezes up, and suddenly both of my CPU cores hit 100% and Ubuntu is using 1.6GB of RAM, from like 200MB when it's idle.
I'm using 10.04 Pentium D 2.4Ghz Dual 2GB RAM
The laptop drive is a 5000RPM 250GB Sata, NTFS partition is 125GBThe backup drive is a 7200RPM 500GB Sata, ext4 partition is 500GB
The GUI for network configuration of Fedora is marvellous such that the configuration is almost fool-proof. But how can I make the connection by hand in the command line mode? It goes okay except the very last step. When I disconnect the eth0 interface from the right-hand side of the desktop GUI, I tested how to bring it back by command line but I failed. When disconnected, the ifconfig still shows the eth0 interface, with just the ip address portion changed.
I tried "ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.xx" to give it an ip address but the connection is still down even if the ifconfig shows an ip address for the eth0 interface. Then I tried "/etc/init.d/network restart" and "ifup eth0" and also "route add defaut gw 192.168.1.1" but none of these could accomplish the same work as a single click on the GUI to connect. I am very curious about how to do it in the terminal.
I installed fedora 13 in its LXDE flavor in my laptop. I noticed when it goes to save energy mode, the TFT retro-illumination is not turned off. The display just stays black with light. How to make the display to turn off when the system enters in save energy mode?

I followed the following step given on an openSuSE site but I am still encountering the same problem i.e. a phpinfo.php file gets downloaded when I browse it in my browser. In case the browser wants to save your php files instead of displaying the content, you should enable php support in the /etc/apache2/mod_userdir.conf file. Add the following line to it, just after the <Directory /home/*/public_html> line and restart the server.Include /etc/apache2/conf.d/php5.conf
I am running 11.04 ubuntu and when i plug in my iphone i can browse its file system just fine with gui but i dont seem to be able to find it when i try to find it using command line. When i plug iphone i can see it in my Desktop but when i browse Desktop from command line it is not there.
I have a multi user system for my roommates and myself that has separate folders for each of us. I've got user authentication working with samba, but unless I set every file and folder readable/writeable by all users, I can't browse it or edit the files. This isn't ideal as the shares are open to other users access, so I'm hoping there's a way to keep folders at 750 and files at 660 while allowing samba users to browse, delete and edit. Also, the samba share is actually a mounted NFS share from another server. Both the NFS server and the Samba server have the same users/uid's. When a file is created from a Windows host via the Samba client, the NFS server's permissions do show that the correct user owns the files, but since the files aren't mode 666 but 640 I can't edit or delete the file.
I am new to XUbuntu and I cant seem to browse my other hard drives connected to my system, It keep saying Connecting to "60 GB Filesystem" failed.Authentication is required. how do I browse my other hard drives in Xubuntu?
While in a web browser I'm trying to attach a file which resides on a network location. The file dialogue doesn't allow me to browse any network location. I've mounted the volume and added locations to favorites. I've also tried entering an smb:// path. This only happens in browsers, both FFnd Chrome, some examples would be attaching a file in gmail, yousendit, etc. I can browse and work off the network normally in desktop apps.
I'm very new to *nix. -MacBook Pro -2.4Ghz, 4GB RAM -Nvidia 8600M -Ubuntu 10.04
is there a Terminal command to open a Target file (same as the one opens when you want to upload a file), let user choose the file and when he clicks open, be able to save his choice?for example:echo "Choose source file"--> command needed to browseand then open or save path to that file

Yesterday I made a backup, in the end it was 34gb of his size, I wanna backup only what is used, how I do this?
I am an emacs user, and I noticed that on my new machine (running F15, 64bit) flyspell-mode will not work in tex mode.
I get errors that look something like this:
Code: Spell-checking inequality-model.tex using hunspell with default dictionary... Spell-checking region using hunspell with default dictionary...done ispell-send-string: Process ispell not running When done with a buffer, type C-x # code....
If I have a file in which data is written which leads to the increase of this file size Is it possible to make a constraint such that this file size mustn't exceed certain size let say 5 MB for instance
I am having fedora 10 running on 64 bit machine. I want to upgrade to fedora 12 using preupgrade. Now as per my knowledge it downloads all rpms from Internet, i not having that much huge bandwidth me, so that option is not feasible for me.
I am having fedora 12 iso file: Fedora-12-x86_64-DVD.iso
How can i configure preupgrade to use iso file rather then downloading all rpms and download only what is necessary.
