Ubuntu :: Default 10.04 File Explorer Ignore Capitals?
Aug 14, 2010
Is there a way to have the default 10.04 file explorer ignore capitals?
eg: If i have the files
BOB_1
BOB_2
BOB_3
bob_4
bob_5
bob_6
Ubuntu by default lists them in order starting with the lowercase letters 4-6, followed by the upper-case letters 1-3. I want them to be displayed in the order listed above.
If this isn't possible, can I rename every single file in a folder to be made up of only caps?
I'm studying an OS programming book, in particular network sockets. I have two questions(2nd one is down at the bottom). There is something I don't quite understand. What if this piece of code, which sets sigpipe's default action to ignore and opens a socket:
So I've got a 500gb ext4 formatted drive I use for backup, and I'm trying save my personal files from my laptop's hard drive (the laptop power supply just died) but whenever I try to copy+paste something from the NTFS laptop drive to the ext4 drive, nautilus freezes up, and suddenly both of my CPU cores hit 100% and Ubuntu is using 1.6GB of RAM, from like 200MB when it's idle.
I'm using 10.04 Pentium D 2.4Ghz Dual 2GB RAM
The laptop drive is a 5000RPM 250GB Sata, NTFS partition is 125GBThe backup drive is a 7200RPM 500GB Sata, ext4 partition is 500GB
In fedora, to use browse mode, you have to right click on a folder and choose browse. How can I make that the default option, like in Ubuntu if that rings a bell on what I am talking about. Every time I double click a folder I would like browse mode.
Spent the past hour trying to figure this out, it's not happening. I have no menu bars in programs or em, file explorer? Ex: I open playonlinux and at the top.. no file | tools | edit | etc. | etc. This is on pinguy (ubuntu) btw.
I have a csv file that has around 3 million rows. I want to process this file so that it creates a new file that contains only the rows that have 2 characters or less in the first column column. At the moment i am using SQL Loader but its taking too long so im wondering whether this would be easier if done in Unix?
I'm using andLinux and for whatever reason, emacs seems to think that the file I'm editing has been changed every time I try to edit/save and keeps reprompting me. Very annoying. Is there a way to make emacs stop checking the file on the disk?
I would like to create a directory public_html/archive that is a mirror of public_html/images, except that deletions in the images directory don't cause corresponding deletions in archive.
I was going to manage all of this in code, but then I figured, maybe the system can handle it for me in a robust way.
Note that the website will reference archive in real time, so it has to be an instant mirror and not something done nightly, etc.
I have just installed SABnzb application in my home folder. The executable file is SABnzb.py When I run the command in the Konsole # python SABnzb.py I have this Quote: python: can't open file 'SABnzbd.py': [Errno 2] No such file or directory
Ok so I transferred about 6 or 7 gigs of music and videos to my laptop in 2 folders and 1 file just in the d:/ folder. This leftme with just one gig of space left on the drive. Now I turned of my computer and the next day when I turned it on, the files were gone or so I thought. The files are still taking up the space and when I tried defragging in windows, the files showed up under files not defragged and so did their old directories, but they still do not show up in ubuntu or windows explorer, I cannot navigate to them or open them, yet they are still on my hardrive and taking up space. How do I either get access to these files or delete them to free up space?
Is it possible to run Internet Explorer on Ubuntu without using wine? I use some sites which are only compatible with IE. The sites require Internet Explorer version 5.0 or above.
Does anyone know a way to install internet explorer 7-8-9 on ubuntu?I installed ubuntu a couple of month back and I'm start work next month developing websites. Without IE 7-8-9 I need to go back to Windows and I really don't want that
I have just updated my System from XP to Linux Ubuntu because of frequent virus related problems. Every thing is fine in Ubuntu apart from One Problem I cannot work properly in Microsoft exchange outlook. How to get IE installed in the system.
I am using Ubuntu 10.10 and am looking for an equivalent to Process Explorer on Linux. There is System Monitor but it's not nearly as good as Process Explorer with all of its detailed information about processes.
is there any way to ignore whole directories in Ubuntu-One? I figured out that you can use /etc/ xdg/ ubuntuone/syncdaemon.conf to ignore files by adding a regex to ignore.default, but I assume this only applies to files. So, how can I avoid the syncing of some subdirectories of my synced folders? I guess I could use symlinks as a workaround, because I read somewhere that Ubuntu-One wouldn't follow them.
I'm new to ubuntu and don't know how to use it. How do I create a view similar to Windows explorer or is that the NTFS? I just want to view files on the server and don't know how to do that.
I would like to read and write to a folder in an Ubuntu VPS remotely via a Windows Explorer (Windows 7 Ultimate). Considering that my VPS has very little resources (128MB RAM), what program should I use?
I'm still trying to learn, but seem to be hitting a few walls when it comes to man pages. I don't know where else to look so I hope to get some help here - or at least another idea. I'm trying to learn c++ as well as *nix terminal commands, and I like to make a backup of my compiled program and .c files each time I reach a successful compile (99-100% bug free).
My problem is I like to use an alias instead of a script to backup my work onto a USB. I don't want the hundreds of log files (10K+) copied since I usually delete them anyway.
My alias:
How do I tell cp to ignore the folder '~/work/log' during the backup?
If cp doesn't have such an option, I am open to other ideas, but I would still prefer something that I can alias since I already backup my .bash_aliases file.
if there is a way to blacklist certain packages when updates come around. The reason for this is that I have two repositories that contain Smplayer and Mplayer. But one repository versions of this aren't VDPAU active (but the build is newer).
I've updated my 10.04 kernel to 2.6.34 on my Asus Eee PC to fix wireless issues. However, the update manager keeps bugging me to "upgrade" to 2.6.32. How do I tell it to ignore this?
I am trying to set up my cpu freq. scaling to ignore BOINC. From what google has shown me this is done by setting a value of 1 for ignore_nice_load. However the location of said value does not seem to be the same in 10.04 as in the results from google. How do i set this or is there a better way to keep idle processes like BOINC from increasing the my cpu frequency?
