when I connect the LAN cable in mother board it is not working but when I connected an external LAN card it was working fine . Is there any solution where I can use the on board LAN

I have found many threads talking about turning on/off the webcam on Eeepc, but only one gives a rather complicated way to take a picture(whose quality, according to the author of the thread, is quite unpredictable). There is a built-in 'digital camera' program of KDE to add cameras, in that way, perhaps one can control the camera to take a picture or a video, but I I don't know if the on-board webcam is among the list. One can use the camera when using Skype, but basically I want use the camera off-line. Is there any tool for Slackware to control the Eeepc webcam (as in Windows)?

View 2 Replies View RelatedUp until about 12 hours ago my sound was working perfectly. Then I played a game with my daughter called Potato guy and I got a message saying that there was some conflict with the sound card.
This is the message I got:
"KDE detected that one or more internal sound devices were removed. Do you want KDE to permanently forget about these devices? I selected "no", however, in the sound configuration menu, the above devices are grayed out.

I am working on a project to build an embedded board with WIFI connectivity. My present status:
- I have a embedded development board TS7200 .
- It has USB and Ethernet Port.
- I am able to get port Linux on it and run program to communicate between devices and a computer using socket programming and Ethernet.
I need help in deciding how to get WIFI connectivity to the board. I guess it would mostly be using WIFI dongle? Any suggestion for a WIFI dongle?How should I get it working? Where should I look for proper reading material? I am am planning to do some basic program practice using WIFI on my laptop. How can I do that ?
Is there anyway to run KDE without Plasma?At install I opted out of the kdebase-workspace package, but then didn't have the xwmconfig option to run KDE.Duplicating, then commenting out the original, and on the uncommented line: removing everything after 'Exec='. Taking the 'plasma.desktop' out. ...Deleting the entire file will only get it rewritten again by the system..Now it loads into beautiful void.I still have my GUI, complete with any kApps you might want: konsole, konqueror, and even krunner; but no panels or Desktop Activities.Is it still loading plasma only no longer implementing it? Am I losing precious RAM'CPU usage with plasma getting loaded without being used?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've installed SalixOS LXDE and thought it was the best thing but... After I disabled almost all services except syslog, dbus, and hald while inside lxde desktop. I rebooted and my mouse and keyboard no longer worked. So then I booted my Slackware install and edited /etc/inittab on the salix partition so I could boot into init 3 (I kinda like init 3 more than 4 anyway). Booted back into salix and keyboard seems to work but gpm doesn't... Gpm can't find any mouse so I do an lsmod and there's only about 4 modules loaded? Crap... So I dig around /etc/rc.d folder and I think it's got to do with me disabling the udev services when everything was fine after a fresh install...
I ran the init script for udev but it does nothing... I also ran pkgtool and went to setup, selected services and hit enter but it jumps back to the main menu?! I don't know if that's a glitch or what but it won't even let me pick the services with pkgtool... So what can I do to change everything back to their default value? I only booted once into my new salix install, changed services, rebooted, and then problems... I really loved the way everything was working on my first boot. Salix is one of those distro's that really gave me a happy feeling with linux so I'd really hate to stop using it over this one wrong thing I did...

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a new nettop and installed Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop. Unfortunately the on-board wlan is kind of crap so I bought a USB Wireless stick and since that stick has a pretty recent chipset ndis was needed to get the USB stick to work as wlan1.
The issue is I want to disable the on-board wlan (wlan0). The BIOS does not offer that option so it needs to be done in the OS I guess. My question is what is the best way of doing so? I've read something about blacklisting or editing 10-wlan.rules but I am unsure what the best place is and what to put there.

I have an issue with my on-board wireless card (powers down after about 5 minutes) so I'm stuck with a USB card. I don't use the on-board card and it causes the system to intermittently hang if it's powered on (once I run ifconfig wlan0 down, the system runs fine). Is there a way to power down the interface (or better yet prevent it from powering on) at boot?

The card is a WLI-MPCI-G54 and is using Broadcom BCM4306 chip. I've installed Debian on the system.My goal is to make a wireless access point by using hostapd authentication service. I've only got one ethernet line running into my room, and I've got loads of computers. The server has 2 ethernet ports, one integrated into the motherboard, one on a PCI card that I took from my old server. The on board ethernet never worked on my old server- but I only tried it out post-install, it was hooked up to the card during install (For the record, networking on linux has *never* worked for me if I installed then plugged in the networking stuff after the fact). So I just used the card instead. Transferred the hard drive into a new machine, and lo and behold, it would only work after I transferred in the card from the old one. What I wanted to set up is a basic NAT system, where the network connection is routed through from my server to my main desktop- but when I run ifconfig, my card is not detected, just lo and eth0. How can I fix this?

My problem is centered around using a AT91SAM9G45 development board (DB)on Fedora 10. I have directions on how to setup on my host machine a DHCP server to connect to the development board. I have installed an additional network card (eth1) that will be used exclusively to communicate with my DB.
The DB has been setup with an ethaddr=12:34:56:78:9a:bc and an ipaddr=192.168.251.191.

I've just set up a PC with CentOS 5.3 runing on near identical hardware to an existing 5.2 machine. Motherboard is Asus M2A-VM which I discover by chance generally works very well with CentOS. Ethernet is on board Nvidia.The older machine just did run gigabit speed without any intervention at all, rather to my surprise. The newer machine insists on running at 100 Mbit which is annoying as it is connected to a NAS through a gigabit dumb switch.
The obvious difference between the two is that ethtool on the older machine says that supported ports are TP, and so the port is TP. Whereas the newer machine says that supported ports are TP or MII and insists on running MII. I cannot change this with ethtool -s eth0 port tp. Perhaps not too surprisingly, mii-tool says that the supported speeds range up to 100 Mbit.
I have installed Fedora 14 on Intel's DH67BL mother board, which has a on board LAN port, Fedora 14 does not detect on-board LAN. Unfortunately, intel does not provide any driver support for linux OS :-(. However, if I install an additional LAN card, Fedora 14 detects it and everything works fine.

I do have internet cause I am using it on W7. The only thing that I have done different is I left the pc on over night so I guess it went to suspend for the first time. Then I powered off. After turning the pc back on and logging in I have no internet. Not even with the Ethernet plugged directly in. There is supposed to be a little blue light on when it sees the wireless and that is off. When I click on the networking icon in the system tray it says networking disabled. It shows no wireless. When I plug directly in I still get nothing. I'm using 10.04

I used universal-usb-installer and unetbootin, both without success.The installation completed successfully, except that wireless networking is not enabled. Checked cable/network with 386Box running Ubuntu 8.04 all OK. Could not get Realtek 8168 on mother board to work on Gigabyte H55M-S2H motherboard. I tried to install r8168 driver but no luck ... so I bought another Linux compatible card which turned out to be a RTL8139c (eth1) and the driver I am using on this is card is 8139too.

My preference would be to get the motherboard ethernet working but perhaps the card may be easier to get working. Anyway after searching the net for ideas and trying different things I've just about given up. I have reinstalled Ubuntu today so eth0 is back to using the r8169 driver. I'm no expert so my attempts at following other recipies have so far failed. From what I have read the 8139too driver should have worked with the RTL8139C chip so I have run out of ideas. I must be doing something wrong.
Everything worked fine on kernel 2.6.33-6.But since the update to kernel 2.6.33-8, not always but nearly everytime I resume from suspend, my wireless network is disabled.When I right click the tray Icon the "Enable Networking" box is unticked and greyed out.Only a reboot brings networking back

My wireless gets randomly disabled in my Acer Timeline 3810 with F11. The time it can take is basically random, but most of the times it ends up happening. I get disconnected, and then in the network manager in gnome panel wireless network appears disables and in fact the option appears grayed out. The only thing I can do to get it back workinh is restart.

However, 99% of the time I am wired.I am using a BCM4312 It shows up in lspci The drivers are loaded (wl, lib80211 and lib80211_crypt_tkip) If I look at System->Administration->Hardware Drivers the Broadcom STA driver is active. dmesg says that the interface is eth1 but then moves it to eth2 If I click on the network icon in the panel I have options for connecting to eth0 (wired lan which works fine) but under "Wireless Networks" it says "Wireless is disabled" in gray.
