i need to connect to the internet with my huawei smartax mt880 adsl router from a linux redhat 9 box ,
- I can get into the router as user admin / admin at address 192.168.1.1
- I get missed in between pppd setup & my kernel modules insertion . . .
- can I find a clear step by step guide to get me connected to the internet ?
I'm a beginner in Ubuntu, I'm using Ubuntu 9.10.
Currently using a Dlink GLB-802c router and using a ADSL connection. I try to connect to the Internet but it is unsuccessful. Ubuntu is not indicating my router when I connect to the PC.
My PC is P4 and using USB to connect to internet, PC haven't a Ethernet interface.
I have 2 pcs at home. I dont have a switch so I can connect only one PC at a time to my adsl router/modem for internet access. In the past I had successfully connected the two PCs (NIC to NIC) to each other using the same ethernet cable which was supplied with my dlink adsl modem.
Recently the motherboard of on of my PC went bad so I replaced it with a new one. The problem is when I connect the two using the same Ethernet cable they won't connect. The lights on the Ethernet port won't light up. I can still connect both of them to the adsl router (NIC to Router) (one at a time).
I have a desktop PC running Ubuntu 9.10 and Windows 7, and a Eee PC 701 laptop running EasyPeasy Ubuntu 9.04. I'd like to connect the desktop to the laptop with a wired connection (eth0), then the laptop to my ADSL router using wireless (ath0).
I have a crossover ethernet cable (I bought on ebay). I have set up my laptop with a static IP address on my LAN and it uses OpenDNS.
I have added this to /etc/sysctl.conf on the laptop:
net.ipv4.ip_forward=1
Then I tried this on the laptop:
sudo iptables --table nat --append POSTROUTING --out-interface ath0 -j MASQUERADE
sudo iptables --append FORWARD --in-interface eth0 -j ACCEPT
This is a variation on what I found on other sites describing how to set up a router. I don't understand iptables very well, but I gather that the above two lines should set up forwarding so that traffic from my router to the laptop will be forwarded to the desktop, and vice versa.
But this doesn't work. The connection doesn't even establish between the laptop and the desktop.
After reinstall Ubuntu 10.04 LTS didn't recognize my ADSL router Billion 400 G.The Ethernet 1 led is off after booting.Search on web for help on this but no good results.You good people now are my last resort.I tried boot in live CD and result is the some.Check with sudo lshw.

Now the problem is my OpenSUSE network won't come back on! I set the static ip as Autoeth0 to eth0 however when network updates I losse eth0. Why is this happening? Why doesn't the PC simply re-connect? Can I do it via command line?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an adsl modem acting as a bridge to my router my setup was working well for more than year now , but then the internet went slow . I set the modem back to PPPoE the problem was with the DNS server of the ISP so using ifup i set the dns t 8.8.8.8 (google) the connection is back , but when i set the modem back as a bridge slow internet does the router know that my dns is 8.8.8.8 or i should set the dns on the router ? I can't see an option to set the dns on the router ( i just enter my username and password from the isp to use PPPoE mode ) by the way i called the isp support they kept telling me to restart , i told them i did but i never restarted my pc . I'm sure if i tell them i'm running linux they will blame the os !

My current setup is as follows:
* A-link Roudrunner 44B Modem connected to the main line
* D-Link DI524 Router (port 1) connected to the modem
* This leaves me with 3 ports and Wireless for my other machines
What I wish to do is:
* Have all my machines with static IP addresses for LAN
* still have internet connection
I've tried enabling DHCP on the D-Dlink Router with LAN IP 192.168.0.1 and IP range from 192.168.0.100 - 192.168.0.199. Then gave my machine static IP 192.168.0.101, subnet 255.255.255.0 and gateway 192.168.0.1....obviously it didn't work. I've tried the above with both the modem being connected to the router via port1 and WAN port... but I have the same results. I also tried to do the same without the router (direct connection between the PC and modem) still got the same results. Could it be that what I am trying to do is not technically not possible due to my ISP setup to ensure no more than4 concurrent users limit is in place.

I have my server connected directly to my modem which is providing me with Internet access on eth1 and is working fine. I have dhcp and dns setup on eth0 which is connected to my router. The router shows that it is connected to the Internet but when the router gives a client computer an IP address, the client is unable to connect to the Internet but can connect to the router. 1) I have an ADSL router for internet and RHL box sitting on the southside of the southside of the router with local IP configured.
I have to access the Linux box through the internet.
I have tried to port forward the SSH port on the ADSL router, that is not working.
installed openSUSE 11.3 and round that both wireless and ethernet connections could connect ok to my router but couldnt access the internet. I think its a bug because I didn't have this issue in previous versions of openSUSE.
The solution is to go into the ip settings in the wireless configuration, select the option to manually assign ddresses (not DCHP) and
- enter the ip address of your router in the default gateway and DNS server addresses
- manually assign an ip address to your computer rather than have the router do it
- it has to be in the same range as your router -n normally 192.168.1.x where x can be any number not already used.
I connect my internet using pppoe to may DSL modem with bridging mode, and it goes fine until I try to put a wireless router between my PC and the modem. After I configure both modem and the router, I can run my wireless network fine by connecting it from a laptop, but my PC is unable to reach the modem at this configuration.
PC has address 192.168.2.100
Router has address 192.168.2.2
Modem has address 192.168.2.1
all with netmask 255.255.255.0
With bridging configuration in modem and automatic detect configuration in the wireless router, the wireless network run well, except the PC cannot ping the Modem saying that

Looks like my PC, which has Slackware 13.0, don't know how to reach the modem even they are physically connected.
1. how can I configure the modem, PC, and router so that the PC can reach the router? Do I need to do add route gateway from the PC?

I am running Slackware -current. Every thing was working fine and suddenly it stopped. I am unable to connect to the router or the internet. Which is a problem since I'm using it right as a server.

I cannot connect to internet. I just installed Fedora 12 w/ the Live CD and I have a Linksys WMP54G Wireless Card (v4.1 I believe) and it apparently installed fine upon install of fedora. It will not thought connect to the internet. It reads my connect (NETGEAR-2.4-G), my router is a Netgear WNDR3300. It worked perfectly fine on Windows XP. Like I said, it picks up my wireless connection. But when I go to connect it attempts to connect for like a minute or two then goes back to not connected.

- to set proxy settings as "Direct internet connection"
- disconnecting power to (including 30 sec wait): modem, router, computer + unplugging ethernet from computer
- Live CD (he only had an old one 7.10) which also didn't connect to internet, but as I am remote, I couldn't do any more. We are downloading a 10.04.1 iso for him to burn tomorrow, and will try that again.
- Uninstalled Crashplan which was the last software that we installed (and it was working ok).
I am currently ssh'ing into another computer on the network that IS working, and then ssh'ing into my Dad's computer - including a VNC session (tunneled through both machines and router).

I found out it was because it cant find my Voip router if I disconnect the voip router they work fine. I am using NetCom V300 telephone router yet PCLinuxos 2009 has no problem with this issue. AT&T will not help. I am trying to connect with Cable (CAT5). When I try to configure my network card with YaST here is the message received. "Unable to configure the network card becasue the kernal device (eth0, wlan0) is not present. This is mostly cause by missing firmware (for wlan device) See dmesg output for details"
View 2 Replies View RelatedUseing gnome network manger. I thught that is DNS resolve problem, and wrote in linksys router the same DNS as 3g huaweii modem use. Steel the some result. NO INTERNET. Change for static ip in router and try use the same gatway , but steell can't use connected at the same time to internet with 3g and local router.
Only one devace at the same time, Router have no any acces to internat. SO why 3g internet stoping working after connecting router to LAN ports? Has it some thing to do with subnet or ip range and routing table?
At work, we (like almost everyone) are still full-on windows. I am currently trying to get away from windows because I am not a fan. my current windows machine (different from my Ubuntu machine) is accessing the wireless network fine, and there are no obvious problems there. Also, my Ubuntu machine can access my wireless network at home, so I know there are no driver issues. I set up the connection for the Ubuntu machine, and it seems to be connecting OK. I can ping internal IPs and by all statuses, the connection to the router is functioning. However, when I attempt to load a web page or ping a domain or external IP, it fails. I tried to ping the IP, thinking if that worked, it's probably the DNS, but pinging both domains or IPs fails. I have looked around at forums and posts, but none of them seem to match my issue (that's probably not true, but I am struggling to see the commonality).

After forgetting my wifi router password, I had to reset and reconfigure the router. I enabled WEP, and after I typed the password, the computer now recognises it automatically. But I can't connect to the internet no matter how long I wait. (The wired internet connection works fine.) How can I get the wifi to connect to the internet?

I had an ATT "2Wire" modem/router that was working but connection to the Internet was often poor. An ATT technician came to my home and swapped out the modem/router for the identical model. I changed the ESSID and WEP code to match the new unit and everything was fine with the following wireless units: a wireless desktop, two cellphones, three wireless Archos tablets, and a couple of e-reader tablets. So all seemed to be fine wirelessly. However...
My laptop (SuSE 11.0, KDE3) simply won't connect no matter what I do. I changed the ESSID and WEP info in the lappy exactly as was done with the other wireless devices named above. But no good. The lappy does see the modem/router (a good, strong signal appears in KNetworkManager). But it seems as if the modem/router is rejecting the lappy's attempted handshake using the new ESSID and/or WEP information.
I thought that perhaps there was something wrong with the lappy's wireless card, so I took it to a Starbucks to see if it would connect there on an open network, and it did without problem. So the lappy's wireless card appears to be working fine. It just won't talk to the encrypted modem/router at home. Here are the settings on the lappy. Hopefully something here is easily identified as the culprit. With all the clicking I've done it certainly is possible that I ticked something that should not have been ticked and just don't realize what I've done.
