installed openSUSE 11.3 and round that both wireless and ethernet connections could connect ok to my router but couldnt access the internet. I think its a bug because I didn't have this issue in previous versions of openSUSE.

The solution is to go into the ip settings in the wireless configuration, select the option to manually assign ddresses (not DCHP) and

- enter the ip address of your router in the default gateway and DNS server addresses

- manually assign an ip address to your computer rather than have the router do it

- it has to be in the same range as your router -n normally 192.168.1.x where x can be any number not already used.

I'm having a strange problem with my network connection/DNS. I turn computer the on and it recognizes and connects to wireless or wired but I can't access any Internet resources or my router. If I ping the default gateway, I get no response and I get DNS errors from any network services that run at start up. If I stop and start the network daemon then it all works fine until the next time I turn on my laptop. It does this for both wireless and wired connection.

I've tried to edit the network interface information in YaST but it says that configuration is handled by knetworkmanager and I have no idea where that information is accessed. I should point out that it all worked fine until I tried to connect to open WAP at my school and couldn't so I connected to the wired network. Next morning I had this problem when connecting to my home network. My questions are 1. What could be the cause of this error and 2. where does one configure the network interfaces when using knetworkmanager

All settings are correct as far as i can tell. The wep key works on all my windows boxes. When i have connect automatically enabled it never tries to connect. if I go to edit it it pops kde wallet up i put in credentials. wallet goes away then nothing happens. if i double click connection to my router also nothing happens. I have the wep key in there and i even made it visible to make sure.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Exchanged Modem/router For Same Model But Now Cannot Connect To Internet Using WEP

I had an ATT "2Wire" modem/router that was working but connection to the Internet was often poor. An ATT technician came to my home and swapped out the modem/router for the identical model. I changed the ESSID and WEP code to match the new unit and everything was fine with the following wireless units: a wireless desktop, two cellphones, three wireless Archos tablets, and a couple of e-reader tablets. So all seemed to be fine wirelessly. However...

My laptop (SuSE 11.0, KDE3) simply won't connect no matter what I do. I changed the ESSID and WEP info in the lappy exactly as was done with the other wireless devices named above. But no good. The lappy does see the modem/router (a good, strong signal appears in KNetworkManager). But it seems as if the modem/router is rejecting the lappy's attempted handshake using the new ESSID and/or WEP information.

I thought that perhaps there was something wrong with the lappy's wireless card, so I took it to a Starbucks to see if it would connect there on an open network, and it did without problem. So the lappy's wireless card appears to be working fine. It just won't talk to the encrypted modem/router at home. Here are the settings on the lappy. Hopefully something here is easily identified as the culprit. With all the clicking I've done it certainly is possible that I ticked something that should not have been ticked and just don't realize what I've done.

Why won't the new modem/router which is exactly the same as the old one except for the ESSID and WEP work with my lappy yet it does work with a bunch of other wireless devices?

OpenSUSE Network :: Conected To Router But No Internet?

I've seen lots of other issues similar to mine on this forum and others, but had no joy in resolving this problem. I can connect to my router web interface, using both wireless and ethernet cable, but cannot connect to the internet with either.

I can't ping any IP address or hostname. When I type route into the terminal, I get:

There are extra 'default' destinations in there, because of things I have tried from other posts. I have had internet working. It was working for months, but it all stopped working when I installed Skype, vpnc and kvpnc (VPN Client GUI). I don't know if this is just coincidence. I did get connected to my VPN, but shortly after installing Skype, everything outside my local network (i.e. internet and VPN) stopped working.

I'm writing this from another laptop on the local network, so the internet obviously working fine - just not from my own laptop. I'm running openSUSE 11.1 (i586), KDE 4.1.3 "release 4.10.4". And in "sysinfo:/" it says Network Status: "You are online" Like I said, internet doesn't work for both ethernet and wireless. Can't ping anything. I can access router web interface at 192.168.1.1

OpenSUSE 11.3 x64 KDE I dont know what happened it is a new install thats been running for 2 weeks . Now for some reason I can not access the internet or the router. Samba is working with Dolphin I can browse shares on local network both Windblows and Linux and ping local IP's. But I can NOT ping my router (the default gateway IP) with this box or access it with firefox so no internet. A VirtualBox of XP Pro running on this box has no problems with its bridged adapter getting out and seeing the router. I disabled the firewall, added gateway IP to network settings, disabled ipv 6 from the get go, added service provider dns's to nameservers tried opendns servers also.

I've just recently installed opensuse after being an ubuntu user for about a year. For some reason I can't connect to my Dlink router, but I can connect to my neighbors linksys router. To be more specific it actually connects but acts as if the DNS isn't working. I can ping the router, but can't ping anything past the router. Right now the router is unsecured.

I am running openSUSE 11.2 and just recently my network has been down. I'm using Gnome, but using Yast to configure my network (I'm usually forced to use wireless as I travel a lot on my laptop). Usually, when I'm connected to a wireless network, it will show up as so in the Gnome start menu, but recently, it will only say Wired there, even though I have nothing connected to my ethernet jack. I can connect wirelessly to a home router, but cannot use the wireless in any other way. I have tried manually disabling the ethernet connection to no avail. Unfortunately I am limited in my linux knowledge, so I am kinda stuck here.

I've just spent the entire night trying to get my computer to share Internet with my laptop. I have DSL Internet with the modem configured to bridge mode. On the openSUSE server I have two NIC's. When setting up the DSL (pppoe) it created a dsl0 which is using the NIC eth0. So now I have dsl0, eth0, and eth1 I configured eth1 for DHCP server. When I connect with my laptop using DHCP it gets an IP address just fine. However I can't access the Internet. I think my problem is in the Kernel IP Routing Table. dsl0 obtains IP from ISP eth0 is set to DHCP although that confuses me because how can the same NIC have two IP Addresses? eth1 static IP 10.30.60.1

I have an adsl modem acting as a bridge to my router my setup was working well for more than year now , but then the internet went slow . I set the modem back to PPPoE the problem was with the DNS server of the ISP so using ifup i set the dns t 8.8.8.8 (google) the connection is back , but when i set the modem back as a bridge slow internet does the router know that my dns is 8.8.8.8 or i should set the dns on the router ? I can't see an option to set the dns on the router ( i just enter my username and password from the isp to use PPPoE mode ) by the way i called the isp support they kept telling me to restart , i told them i did but i never restarted my pc . I'm sure if i tell them i'm running linux they will blame the os !

I am trying to setup a dhcp server for my internal network. I have two NICs, a modem, and a wireless router. I have my server connected directly to my modem which is providing me with Internet access on eth1 and is working fine. I have dhcp and dns setup on eth0 which is connected to my router. The router shows that it is connected to the Internet but when the router gives a client computer an IP address, the client is unable to connect to the Internet but can connect to the router. the thing is that I cant use Network Manager to connect to Internet, because it simply do not connect. The connection, although, awailable throught yast when i choose "traditional method with ifup", so everything is just fine, but if i need to reconnect, i have to reboot. I installed 11.2 on an older HP Laptop which was running XP without any issues. Durring the install, the update processe failed (presumably unble to connect to respository). I am usind a wired connection and the nic is connecting to my router and is recieving an address via DHCP. I am also able to ping the workstion from the router's Web interface. However I am unbale to connect to the internet.I have turned off the Suse firewall via Yast and checked the settings against another computer running ver 11.1 .Everything appears to be correct but no joy.

So here is what I am trying to do. I want to connect my Open Suse 11 machine to the internet. I am almost there.

1. I configured my network card and eth0 is up.

2. I configured my DSL with user name and password and I am authenticated.

3. An IP address is assigned to me and the DNS servers are retrieved.

However I cannot ping or visit any website I use the YAST automatic configuration and kinternet to connect. Here are the gritty details

I do see that kinternet has trouble reading /etc/resolv.conf. It says 'permission denied' although read permissions are set on both /sbin/route and the path that it links to. This should not matter however since the existing entries are already there and valid. I also tried to turn off the firewall suspecting it could be a problem.

So I am being authenticated successfully ( verified with the logs ); assigned an IP; the route seems ok; firewall seems ok. But I cannot browse or do internet things I have been tweaking settings for 3 days now and all seems in vain. Do enlighten me on what I am doing wrong. I bet its something silly that I overlooked. I have had success configuring the same thing in red hat linux and browsing the internet without trouble. Is there something OpenSuse specific that I am missing ?

since installing opensuse 11.2 KDE, is that I can connect to the local resources when I'm not connected via the pptp vpn to the Internet but as soon as I establish an Internet connection, I cannot. Under Windows and other distros I've tried, this has never been an issue, usually I can connect to either local or Internet resources, interchangeably. In a nutshell, I don't know how to troubleshoot this.

I just finished a brand new install of 11.2 on a workstation and it can't connect to the internet at all. I can ping Google and I can ping devices on my local network but I can't browse any web pages. I am able to ping the workstation with my windows 7 workstation. I tried disabling the firewall. I have it set to use DHCP.

UPDATE:

I can connect to google via IP. So it appears to be a DNS type issue, is there some settings I am missing?

I upgraded from 11.2 to 11.3, and now I can't seem to get my network/internet connection working. I am using a router and a cable modem, and the connection is of course DSL. I am using wpa2 for security. I can't even FIND where to enter my wpa2 key. When I upgraded from 10.x to 11.2, there was no such problem.

I have an Intel Mac that I recently added openSUSE 11.3 to to have a dual-boot system. This has been working fine for me for the last 5-6 months. Then on 1/18/2011 I shutdown my system and totally disconnected everything and moved it all out of my office, so new carpeting could be installed. After it was installed, I reconnected everything and confirmed that everything on my Mac side works just fine. Then I rebooted into Linux and everything worked until I tried to run Firefox to connect to the internet. I'm told every time that it could not connect to the server for whatever I tried to connect to. I AM NEW TO LINUX AND ANY KIND OF NETWORK/INTERNET PROBLEMS, SINCE I'M USED TO MAC WHERE EVERYTHING JUST WORKS. But, I did click on "computer" in the lower left-hand side of the menu bar at the bottom of the screen. This shows on the right-hand side under STATUS "Network: none" and then it states to click this to get it started or connected (I don't remember which) so I click it. This brought up a window asking me for my password and then a new window where it went through a checklist of things and presented me my network settings, which
means nothing to me. However, after this I tried Firefox again with not luck.

I configure my server just like on the link found in novell i hope some can help me here. my client is able to recieve DHCP address and everything is working fine on the network how ever my client cannot pullup any website, but my server is able to pullup whats wrong on this one.
