i've just installed opensuse 11.2 everything is working fine but i'm unable to connect to the internet through my adsl modem the network is shown to be active but after i configure the dsl connection i can't see any option from where to connect

My router/adsl modem is not connected to a power supply so when power goes and comes the network will do a re-boot. Now the problem is my OpenSUSE network won't come back on! I set the static ip as Autoeth0 to eth0 however when network updates I losse eth0. Why is this happening? Why doesn't the PC simply re-connect? Can I do it via command line?

I set the modem back to PPPoE the problem was with the DNS server of the ISP so using ifup i set the dns t 8.8.8.8 (google) the connection is back , but when i set the modem back as a bridge slow internet does the router know that my dns is 8.8.8.8 or i should set the dns on the router ? I can't see an option to set the dns on the router ( i just enter my username and password from the isp to use PPPoE mode ) by the way i called the isp support they kept telling me to restart , i told them i did but i never restarted my pc . I'm sure if i tell them i'm running linux they will blame the os !

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have 2 pcs at home. I dont have a switch so I can connect only one PC at a time to my adsl router/modem for internet access. In the past I had successfully connected the two PCs (NIC to NIC) to each other using the same ethernet cable which was supplied with my dlink adsl modem.
Recently the motherboard of on of my PC went bad so I replaced it with a new one. The problem is when I connect the two using the same Ethernet cable they won't connect. The lights on the Ethernet port won't light up. I can still connect both of them to the adsl router (NIC to Router) (one at a time).
Due to PCI limitations on our server, we are trying to connect a Trandnet TDM=C400 ADSL modem via USB but are not having any luck, as the modem appears not to be recognised.

I have a lenovo desktop pc (WIN7) that I connect to the interrnet with. I have a custom built box (SuSE11.3). I have clear internet service and use a USB modem to connect to the internet. Clear does not make a Linux driver yet... I can connect to the Internet through VMware desktop with SuSE as the guest OS. However, I want to connect my other system to a router and my other PC. Would I be able to access the web with the linux box? Durring the install, the update processe failed (presumably unble to connect to respository). I am usind a wired connection and the nic is connecting to my router and is recieving an address via DHCP. I am also able to ping the workstion from the router's Web interface. However I am unbale to connect to the internet.I have turned off the Suse firewall via Yast and checked the settings against another computer running ver 11.1 .Everything appears to be correct but no joy.

As I cannot access the internet I had to go back to windows, download them onto a memory stick, go back on to Ubuntu and install them. The first 12 worked fine and are now installed but number 13 and 14 wont allow me to update because "the dependency is un-satisfiable" does anyone know what this means and how I can fix it? I was also unable to get the USB ADSL Modem Manager too install either because of another error.

I am running Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic) and network manager doesn't seem to be able to use my modem to connect to the internet (set up wizard works, appears connected, but then I get page not found error). View 1 Replies View RelatedI use an atom based processor of 1.60 ghz on intel d945gclf board. My ram is a zion 1gb @ 533mhz. Hdd is from western digital 80gb @ 7200 rpm. I have a broadband(dsl) connection from bsnl dataone (a state owned telecom service provider). I connect to internet via a huawei wa1003a ethernet/usb/wireless modem which is provided by my service provider. I need a username and a password everytime i connect to internet via dial-up.
I was using windows xp service pack ii. It was nice and easy installing my modem on xp either via usb or ethernet. Both ways it was easy as i have both the drivers with me.Only and main problem was fighting viruses. I tried many free downloadable anti-virus software to protect my maching. Initially they were fine. But after few months they stopped taking regular updates and became non-functional. I also tried symantec corporate v.10. But it has its drawbacks also. It made my machine perform like a snail.I had previously heard about linux based operating systems. But never tried one. As i am an ameteur in using computers windows xp was suiting my needs. Recently i saw an article in the newspaper about ubuntu which is a free open source operating system. And most important to me it is virus free.But here is a problem also. I cannot connect to internet. My ubuntu 9.10 karmic koala is not identifying my modem and a network between my modem and my machine cannot be established. Also i cannot create a dial-up option where i can give username and password.
I have an ADSL line that allows me for maximum of 4 concurrent users with external IP addreses. The IP addresses are not static (they change every 3-4days).
My current setup is as follows:
* A-link Roudrunner 44B Modem connected to the main line
* D-Link DI524 Router (port 1) connected to the modem
* This leaves me with 3 ports and Wireless for my other machines
What I wish to do is:
* Have all my machines with static IP addresses for LAN
* still have internet connection
I've tried enabling DHCP on the D-Dlink Router with LAN IP 192.168.0.1 and IP range from 192.168.0.100 - 192.168.0.199. Then gave my machine static IP 192.168.0.101, subnet 255.255.255.0 and gateway 192.168.0.1....obviously it didn't work. I've tried the above with both the modem being connected to the router via port1 and WAN port... but I have the same results. I also tried to do the same without the router (direct connection between the PC and modem) still got the same results. Could it be that what I am trying to do is not technically not possible due to my ISP setup to ensure no more than4 concurrent users limit is in place.

I am trying to connect to wireless broadband using SuSE 11.2 and a Huawei E160E USB modem, through Internode Australia.
Networkmanager does not seem to recognise the modem so I am trying other means. I believe I have got wvdial to connect (it reports a correct IP address, the light on the stick goes solid blue and I can ping external IP addresses). However it can't find a DNS nameserver and I can't work out how to provide one to wvdial, and therefore can't do anything through the connection (I would rather not revert to ifup because this laptop travels between WLANs). I followed swerdna's comprehensive instructions on setting up a wireless broadband modem in YAST, but I got lost on the very last instruction: KMenu --> KInternet. I can't find this on my application launcher.
trying to make my 3G modem (a ZTE MF622) work with OpenSUSE 11.2. KNetworkManager is recognizing it (so I suppose it's not on Storage Mode), I can create the 3G connection and connect, but I can't navigate on any sites (ping gives "unknown host" for any IP). Also, the KNetworkManager applet doesn't show anything on fields "Name servers" and "Domains" (they are blank). Tried some instructions from the internet here and there, but didn't have any luck.

An ATT technician came to my home and swapped out the modem/router for the identical model. I changed the ESSID and WEP code to match the new unit and everything was fine with the following wireless units: a wireless desktop, two cellphones, three wireless Archos tablets, and a couple of e-reader tablets. So all seemed to be fine wirelessly. However...
My laptop (SuSE 11.0, KDE3) simply won't connect no matter what I do. I changed the ESSID and WEP info in the lappy exactly as was done with the other wireless devices named above. But no good. The lappy does see the modem/router (a good, strong signal appears in KNetworkManager). But it seems as if the modem/router is rejecting the lappy's attempted handshake using the new ESSID and/or WEP information.
I thought that perhaps there was something wrong with the lappy's wireless card, so I took it to a Starbucks to see if it would connect there on an open network, and it did without problem. So the lappy's wireless card appears to be working fine. It just won't talk to the encrypted modem/router at home. Here are the settings on the lappy. Hopefully something here is easily identified as the culprit. With all the clicking I've done it certainly is possible that I ticked something that should not have been ticked and just don't realize what I've done.

Why won't the new modem/router which is exactly the same as the old one except for the ESSID and WEP work with my lappy yet it does work with a bunch of other wireless devices?
I'm a beginner in Ubuntu, I'm using Ubuntu 9.10.
Currently using a Dlink GLB-802c router and using a ADSL connection. I try to connect to the Internet but it is unsuccessful. Ubuntu is not indicating my router when I connect to the PC.
My PC is P4 and using USB to connect to internet, PC haven't a Ethernet interface.
i'm running Kubuntu karmic and i've been using a 3G Huawei E1552 modem to connect to the internet, everything was going well when suddenly my modem stopped working. I've tried reconfiguring everything, i even reinstalled kubuntu from scratch with no success.Here's a part of my /var/log/debug
