Feb 5, 2011My router/adsl modem is not connected to a power supply so when power goes and comes the network will do a re-boot. Now the problem is my OpenSUSE network won't come back on! I set the static ip as Autoeth0 to eth0 however when network updates I losse eth0. Why is this happening? Why doesn't the PC simply re-connect? Can I do it via command line?

Jun 19, 2011I have an adsl modem acting as a bridge to my router my setup was working well for more than year now , but then the internet went slow . I set the modem back to PPPoE the problem was with the DNS server of the ISP so using ifup i set the dns t 8.8.8.8 (google) the connection is back , but when i set the modem back as a bridge slow internet does the router know that my dns is 8.8.8.8 or i should set the dns on the router ? I can't see an option to set the dns on the router ( i just enter my username and password from the isp to use PPPoE mode ) by the way i called the isp support they kept telling me to restart , i told them i did but i never restarted my pc . I'm sure if i tell them i'm running linux they will blame the os !

Sep 19, 2009I have an ADSL line that allows me for maximum of 4 concurrent users with external IP addreses. The IP addresses are not static (they change every 3-4days).
My current setup is as follows:
* A-link Roudrunner 44B Modem connected to the main line
* D-Link DI524 Router (port 1) connected to the modem
* This leaves me with 3 ports and Wireless for my other machines
What I wish to do is:
* Have all my machines with static IP addresses for LAN
* still have internet connection
I've tried enabling DHCP on the D-Dlink Router with LAN IP 192.168.0.1 and IP range from 192.168.0.100 - 192.168.0.199. Then gave my machine static IP 192.168.0.101, subnet 255.255.255.0 and gateway 192.168.0.1....obviously it didn't work. I've tried the above with both the modem being connected to the router via port1 and WAN port... but I have the same results. I also tried to do the same without the router (direct connection between the PC and modem) still got the same results. Could it be that what I am trying to do is not technically not possible due to my ISP setup to ensure no more than4 concurrent users limit is in place.

Currently using a Dlink GLB-802c router and using a ADSL connection. I try to connect to the Internet but it is unsuccessful. Ubuntu is not indicating my router when I connect to the PC.
My PC is P4 and using USB to connect to internet, PC haven't a Ethernet interface.

Apr 1, 2011I have 2 pcs at home. I dont have a switch so I can connect only one PC at a time to my adsl router/modem for internet access. In the past I had successfully connected the two PCs (NIC to NIC) to each other using the same ethernet cable which was supplied with my dlink adsl modem.
Recently the motherboard of on of my PC went bad so I replaced it with a new one. The problem is when I connect the two using the same Ethernet cable they won't connect. The lights on the Ethernet port won't light up. I can still connect both of them to the adsl router (NIC to Router) (one at a time).

The problem in my opinion is that the wireless device I use isn't operating. No light comes on the device. I am not sure how to "find hardware" with Ubuntu.

Oct 1, 2010I installed the new Slackware 13.1 64 on my laptop and I am trying to connect to the internet via a wireless network but i don't what is wrong with my configurations it just doesn't work.
I tried doing the following:
iwconfig wlan0 essid "ESSID"
iwconfig wlan0 key "Password"
iwconfig wlan0 channel NUMBER
Then i do dhcpcd -d but then no success after - i try to ping some sites, no reply, i put new dns servers in resolv.conf, still no results, i tried to ping some ips and it says network unreachable, it just doesn't work at all.
I did iwlist wlan0 scanning and it found all the wireless networks, so the adapter is not the problem, the problem here is the procedure. How to do it properly so it will work ? I can connect via ethernet by easy configuring eth0 but i have no success for wireless networks. I read everything there was on google, i searched a lot of sites, i tried a lot of different methods but NONE of it worked.

At first my computer didn't seem to see the card at all, but then I typed the command (sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source) and then restarted the computer and now I'm connected to the network, but cannot connect to the internet so how do I figure this out. Like I said I have very little experience with linux at all so please don't make your answers too complicated.

Jan 20, 2011I have had a heck of a time trying to get my laptop running ubuntu to connect to my home network. I have managed to get it to work at my university which would seemingly be more difficult than getting it to work at home, so I know for a fact it isn't a hardware or driver issue. If I try to connect via ethernet cable from my router, it detects that I connected the cable but says "disconnected" and never lets me connect. If I SKIP the router and go from my modem directly to my laptop via ethernet cable it works great.
Using the wireless network tool I can see all of the wireless connections in my area. When I go to connect to my network it prompts me for the WEP key and when I enter it and hit connect it just keeps cycling and eventually times out and finally again prompts me for my WEP key. I know this network works as it works just fine on my Windows 7 partition. Another interesting note - both my wireless and ethernet connections both worked flawlessly and stoopid easily on the live cd but don't after the full install.
If I manually enter in the information for my wireless through IPv4 settings and enter in the Address,Netmask and gateway I can connect to my network - but then I have no active internet connection. Same deal with my wired connection. Is this because choosing this manual method grays out the DHCP?

Mar 10, 2011After installing 11.4, I need to type in the command to update the firmware for a broadcom wifi adapter. Then I needed to reboot, twice, before the system knew to use the adapter (where the adapter wifi light goes from orange to blue).
Then I needed to add my wireless network and type in my key. But the key does not take. If I click on my wireless network icon, it just re-asks for the key and does not connect nor give any other message. Network icon continues to display no connection.
So I need to reboot again.
When the system starts again, the adapter is blue, I click on the icon for my wifi network and it connects without asking for my key and I can then set to start my wifi by default.
Now my wifi works fine.

Background info: I've installed SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11 on my Sony Vaio Laptop (VGN-NW15G) with no major issues, after a bit of mucking around, i got the LAN to Connect to the internet, after some more mucking around, i figured out how to get the WLAN to connect to the internet.MY Goal: To be able to Wirelessly Network my Laptop with My PC.so that i can access the files on the PC, From my laptop, and Vice Versa, but the important thing is to first be able to access the PC files from the Laptop.
NOTE: My PC has 4 Hard Drives (1 for the O/s, 3 Backups) they are all configured and Shared correctly for Networking and Wireless networking, and all the permissions are set correctly.Hardware and Software Environments:My Laptop : Sony Vaio VGN-NW15GOperating System : SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11Wireless Capable, and has no issues Wireless Networking when running of a Hard Drive Loaded with Win 7 Ultimate 32bit, Therefore all Hardware is Compatible

OpenSUSE Network :: Network Manager Won't Connect To Wireless Router
Apr 15, 2010All settings are correct as far as i can tell. The wep key works on all my windows boxes. When i have connect automatically enabled it never tries to connect. if I go to edit it it pops kde wallet up i put in credentials. wallet goes away then nothing happens. if i double click connection to my router also nothing happens. I have the wep key in there and i even made it visible to make sure.
