Is there a way to change my resolution to something specific? I was trying to make my display "less-widescreen" when I accidently made it completely changed.
From the sax2 command, there is only 1400*1050 and 1600*1200, both that are not what I'm looking for and messes up my display. Now, I can't change it back to the original, much less the one I'm looking for (1600*900).
When I boot my computer I get this message: Warning Pc video resolution is out of range Change setting to recommended resolution 1280x1024 @60mh So I hit ctrl alt f1 I typed in Sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg Nothing happens. It's been very frustrating because with everything that I've looked up it says that it's suppose to guide me through something. I desperately need my computer for school.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI setup 11.3 on PC and Belinea monitor (troubleshoting monitor). Everything was fine but since I installed nvidia driver (via 1-click wizard) resolution and font-size has broken
So I plugg another one monitor - Samsung SyncMaster and reboot system. After boot-up resolution and either font size were OK. I was able to select correct resolutoion and font size wasn't so tiny like on Belina.
It's looks like OS 11.3 have problem with correct output on belinea monitor. Driver is installed correctly. I tried to genereate new xorg.conf .
I just installed Suse 11.3 64bit on a new build. My video card is a nvidia gt240. I am using the default drivers. My monitor is a NEC 17" LCD.
When I boot up the screen resolution defaults to 1280x1024. I can go to applications>configure desktop>display and set it to 1024x768, which is my resolution of choice, and it works until I reboot or log out and log back in, then it resets to 1280x1024.
I would like to make 1024x768 the default so I don't have to keep changing it. Is there a way to do this? The output of xrandr looks like this:

Then after someone else used the computer the resolution changed to 1024x768 and I am unable to change it. Yast recognizes the monitor correctly, but when I run Sax2 it will not change it back to 1280x1024. It accepts that setting but when I start it again it is set at 1024x768. My xorg.conf indicates...

I have given up on trying to change the resolution on my old server with 11.3 installed because there is no easy way in 11.3 to change to 1024 x 768 x 64K colours to accomodate the inadequate memory of the on board display adaptor so I have reinstalled 11.2 which had gui for controlling display resolution.
I must keep my /home partition intact and therein, I suspect lies the problem because in the /home directory there are both .kde and .kde4 directories. Although immediately after installation of 11.2 (network install) kde 3.5 was running, after all the updates had run I ended up with kde 4.3.5 and therefore the same problem of not being able easily to change screen resolution. Is it possible to revert to earlier kde and how should I do this please? Another option I have still to try is to install a display adaptor card. The machine bios is supposed to turn off the integrated display controller if it detects one in a slot, but how do I get my operating system to find and install drivers for the new card?
I just upgraded to 11.4 and after finding the right nvidia driver it finally works.But i can`t change my screen resolution to 1280x1040, right now it`s on 1024x786Software management says sax2 is installed but when i type it in a console i get the message"If 'sax2' is not a typo you can use command-not-found to lookup the package that contains it, like this:cnf sax2" Also in yast i can`t find a option to change the resolution of my monitor.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI installed Suse 11.2 recently, and i have my laptop hooked up to a HD monitor.
When i choose the HD monitor, if the resolution is low, lets say 1280x800, same as my laptop, its fine. I see the mouse pointer.
But as soon as i change the resolution to 1920x1080, the pointer disappears. Mouse functionality works allright. Right click/left click works fine, and i can see the buttons getting highlighted on mouse-ever.
But the pointer is gone.
1. The resolution change (from 1024*768 to 1680*1050)could not be saved to /etc/X11/xorg.conf2. After I manually changed the /etc/X11/xorg.conf, it could not take effect when I restart my suse. On restarting, it firstly 1680*1050, then jump back to 1024*768.How I resolved it: 1. When click "Save to X configuration", save the xorg.conf to user directory, then manually copy it to /etc/X11/xorg.conf using root privilege. Firstly: My graphic card is intel hd4500 and motherboard chip's is intel G41. After upgrading, I understood suse 11.3 didn't have sax2. at a result. I have problem with graphic card driver and consequently can't change screen resolution, therefore after each restart, my resolution automatically fix to 1600x1200 but I would like to set it in 1280x1024? What can I do to change it permanently?
Secondly: I installed vmware workstation 6.5 and after it, I see a message that say vmware need to Kernel Header 2.6.34-12- desktop. I install kernel-syms, kernel-source, gcc and make but doesn't run yet. What happen for it?
I am trying to change the default screen resolution in Run Level 3 to 640x480. I have tried changing the menu.1st file and the vga=0x301 mode sticks until the system begins to boot and then resets to a higher resolution. This system does not have X, or Sax2 so no go on those options. This is OpenSuse 11.3 x64.

The only fixes I've seen involve the Intel 915 chipset not this one. I've changed it in sax but even though it says it should be 1400x1050 it remains at 1024x768.

I just installed 11.04 on my PC. I use my TV as my monitor because I use this machine to stream from Hulu, Netflicks or Icefilms. Ubuntu does not detect the resolution I want to use, which is 1152x648. An odd ball res I know, but everything fits best on that setting and I'm not concerned with HD.

How would I go about adding this resolution to the DVI-0 output?

eth0(192.168.0.254):linked to the DMZ
eth1(192.168.1.254):linked to the LAN
eth3(212.217.0.1):linked to the Internet
-The DMZ have one web server with a static address (192.168.0.1).
-My LAN address range is (192.168.1.2-192.168.1.100) managed by a DHCP server in the same firwall machine.
There are some of the rules that I need to set up :
-Allow HTTP between the LAN and the internet
-Allow HTTP between the web server in the DMZ, and the internet.
Is there a way to tell the firewall , to redirect all incoming HTTP requests only to the web server in the DMZ ?

We have 3 groups: "g12" ("u1" and "u2), "g34" and "g56".
"g12" should only read the file.
"g34" should write and read it.
"g56" should have all permissions (rwx).
And others should not access the file at all.
I am having trouble setting up a gnome-terminal to a specific profile. For example, when I open up R-cran I want the title to be 'R-cran'. And when I run Octave I would like the title to be 'Octave'. Pretty straight forward, so I thawt. So...I have been trying to set up and run different profiles for the different terminal windows that I want. I have set up 2 new profiles, 1) for R-cran 2) for Octave, each with their own titles.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI did some digging on the sudo command and I do know the config file is /etc/sudoers Read the manual for sudoers and found out that I must use visudo to edit the file I read some of the examples at the bottom of the file and tried entering my own account in following the example. one of the commands I was trying to allow my account to perform without root login is the mount command So I tried adding this in (kreid8 /bin/mount ALL) I then saved & exited the file and logged out of root and tried sudo mount -t vfat /dev/sdc1 /media. I got an error saying I had to be root in order to do that But when I use the visudo -l option it shows that I have that privellege. Did I edit the file incorrectly?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to use a large LCD TV as a monitor for movies, etc. I have the user set up and working. But, I'm struggling with GDM. I rather miss the days where a few cryptic settings in XORG.conf file made everything work correctly.
I added some lines to /etc/gdm/Init/Default and /etc/gdm/PreSession/Default. In both cases I added:
xrandr -newmode "1360x768_60.00"
xrandr -addmode VGA1 "1360x768_60.00"
xrander -output VGA1 "1360x768_60.00"
The next line is original and is
/sbin/initctl -q emit login . . . . . .
I'm not sure if I'm not adding the xrandr info to the right files/locations or if my xrandr stuff is wrong. For the user, I just logged in via VNC and changed the resolution. That part was easy.

When I boot up, Grub flashes a message along the lines of "vga=7xx is deprecated, use setting y instead,". Where would grub2 log this error, and what file would I have to edit to change from the old to new resolution setting?

I was able to get the terminals to run at 1920x1080 by adding Code: video=sisfb:mode:1920x1080x32,rate:70,mem:4096 to my grub command. That's nice, but I really want Xorg running at that resolution, and it didn't. I've been working on this for hours, through dozens of gdm restarts with every variation of the above I can think of.?
