Compiling a kernel on this machine first time and get upset with which processor family/type/options to select for my Intel Pentim Dual Core T2390.Does sombody know how to configure kernel better for this processor?
if anyone of you have shifted using Paid Red Hat Linux with CentOS, and what are your experiences of moving from Paid Linux to Unpaid Linux CenOS. When do you suggest a person use Paid Linux and when to use Unpaid Linux?
I'm looking for some software that could help me make a family/work tree. The only problem is that I would like to add other types of connections other than the blood related ones, such as worked with, studied with, supervised someone else etc. And perhaps have the possibility of adding some data about each person and export in a format that can be used by other programs as well.
I am setting up the laptop for the family to use. I have my own user account, which is all set up nice and pretty. I need to make 3 new accounts for the rest of the family. Since my user account is all set up, I am hoping there is a way to copy this account's configuration (customized theme, compiz settings, edited menus, installed applications ie awn, etc...) to a new account.
I have a very strange problem in a C++ RHEL4 app. Here is the code: socket(PF_INET, SOCK_STREAM, 0) returns errno 97 socket(PF_INET, SOCK_DGRAM, 0) returns successow that is strange or what?additional info:1. Extracting the above code into a test program, both return success.2. Placing the above code into the 1st line of my app, error as above.3. I ran app and test program in the same terminal window.4. My app links in many static libraries 5. My app runs fine when compiled and linked on RHEL56. My APP is a ss7 endpoint (SIP <==> SS7 message flow)7. I verified PF_INET, SOCK_STREAM, SOCK_SGRAM values are correct.
This message appears very often in teh output of very different programs, for example Firefox/Swiftfox, Thunderbird, Mplayer In case of Mozilla apps it sometimes freezes KDE interface too (can't switch windows or panel does not pop-up) for a few seconds. IPV6 is not compiled into kernel and module is not built. It is disabled on the eth0 interface too.
It gets stuck at the splash screen(the ubuntu logo) However it can boot in failsafe graphics mode and it boots with no problem if my second display is connected. It freezes if I try to change my display settings and it tells me my graphics card is not recognized. I'm using Lucid Lynx. I tried to do a fresh start but grub loads before the ubuntu cd and/or usb drive.
I have learnt that the network locked huawei modems may be unlocked to use any sim card bu getting a special unlock code and it should ask for it when a "foreign" SIM card is inserted. This procedure works well in Windows, but in Linux where I use wvdial, I dont get prompted for this unlock code. Does anyone know how to insert the unlock code in Linux using any Linux tool (GAMMU/GNOKII/Minicom etc)?
I'm not able to configure my microfone. Audio works very well. HW it's OK, mic works well on windows. Recording WAVE 'foo.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 48000 Hz, Stereo Plug PCM: Linear conversion PCM (S32_LE)
I have intel 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller on my Asus Eee PC 1005PXD. Unfortunately, mic recording gives very bad sound. I've tried changing sound levels but nothing has helped. My system is OpenSUSE 11.4 XFCE
Well, when I run alsaconf, it finds my 82801H and I go on to setting it up, it says it will run, but it doesnt run.

Now ALSA is ready to use.
For adjustment of volumes, use your favorite mixer.
But my song don't work, ..... works, but no sound in that, and i have tried running alsamixer to raise the volume to the peak.
I have a vague idea that, this sound card has difficulty in linux but all I get is 3 year old patches for gutsy gibbon and fixes that are non-slackware so I dont have the files and what not.
I have been trying, but never seem to understand why it says it works when it doesnt work.
Oh turns out, from thinkwiki, [url]
Its AD1984 actually, and it didn't work on 2.6.24.2 mine is 2.6.29.2 .
I am unable to ssh a Linux box from other Linux boxes; also tried to window putty.Although I am getting the password prompt instantaneously. So far, by comparing logs of other server, I am just able figure out that "debug2: callback start" is not coming in ssh -vvv logs.
I was reading this article on how to fix the sound in Ubuntu 9.10 after upgrading from 9.04 [URL] and when I open GNOME ALSA Mixer, nothing shows up (I have included a picture). I typed in:
I am having some problems getting the onboard sound card on my Intel DP45SG motherboard to work properly under openSuse 11.1. Yast appears to have detected the card as a 82801JI (ICH10 Family) HD Audio Controller, but I cannot get any sound out of the card at all.
I have tried to follow this thread, and have run the alsa-info script, the results of which are posted here. It appears to me that the codec that is listed in the alsa script, which is the IDT 92HD73E1X5, is not the same as that which is listed on Intel's site for this board, which is the IDT 92HD73E codec. Can anyone help me out with regards to getting this going? Additional info below:
I am working on a friend's computer for which he "lost" the operating system. This friend has very little extra money right now, so my classmate suggested I try loading Linux on my friend's PC.I am wondering if it will work. The PC is a Compaq Presario SR5610F with an AMD processor. I have been told that Linux doesn't care much for AMD.Does anybody know if it will be possible to use Linux as an OS on this PC?I'm looking for a cheap(er) alternative than Windows. Friend is balking at Windows 7. The machine had Vista loaded in it when purchased, then the son loaded XP on it, without removing Vista. They have been having issues with crashing for some time now. The recovery disks are supposed to have XP on them, but I don't think that is so, and when I tried running those disks, the computer balked. I finally worked around and got XP to install, using a disk from an old computer, but the code would not work, and nobody could remember the computer's password and user name.I want to start fresh with this machine, and install a basic, working OS. Am leary about XP on eBay or some such, but they really don't have the funds to purchase anything over $100.00.
I have a netbook, L500X Geode (498MHz) 480Mb Ram and 40Gb Hdd partitioned into two 20 Gb bits, and I want to install linux on it as a dual boot along side the winxp that is already in place. I tried the Netbook remix of the latest Ubuntu and Fedora 12 with no success at all. I'm beginning to wonder if this tiny old machine can run linux at all.
I have notebook Sony Vaio model PCG-4T1P and I never used linux before, and as you all know that..there's no CD-ROM so my question is : 1- How i can burn linux to USB? 2- When i will install my drivers, I will get errors or defects? and if I will get errors how i can find drivers which will work? 3- What kind of linux you all prefer to use it?
I am trying to install NS2.29 on ubuntu 8.04 and when I try to do the following command:sudo ./install (it works) and if I try to redirect as follow sudo ./install |tee output.it give me the following message "tee: output.txt: Permission denied".
