It gets stuck at the splash screen(the ubuntu logo) However it can boot in failsafe graphics mode and it boots with no problem if my second display is connected. It freezes if I try to change my display settings and it tells me my graphics card is not recognized. I'm using Lucid Lynx. I tried to do a fresh start but grub loads before the ubuntu cd and/or usb drive.

Perhaps someone has run across this problem I loaded CentOS 5.3 on an AOpen MP45-BDR workstation. It uses the Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset for the video graphics. It is officially identified as: GM45 chipset (Intel GMA X4500 MHD).
There are two problems. Using the "intel" video driver, the X11 server does not appear to support digital video cable (DVI interface). It is also stuck in 1024x768 resolution and I want it to display in 1280x1024 resolution. Using a DVI cable, the system boots and displays properly (GRUB and boot messages) until the X11 server starts, then the signal is lost. The system is configured with a dual boot (Windows XP Pro) and Windows operates properly and supports all of the features of the video graphics chipset (DVI and full resolution). So the hardware is ok.
The "intel" video driver has a description of "Experimental ..." so maybe there is an update to this driver or a replacement driver that supports this chipset. I checked the buglist and found CentOS bug ID 2951 which is somewhat similar. The user was utilizing the "intel" video driver and it locked his system but changing the driver to i810 was a work-around. My system does not lock. I did try the i810 video driver but the X server did not like it - it would not start. This makes sense since the description of this driver specifies support for the older Intel onboard chipsets.

Noob to Ubuntu here and I cannot access my wireless connection. It is working fine right now (wired) but I am using the TV stand as my computer desk right now so... not very practical. I tried following the "howto post a wireless issue (ticket)" but there was too much information for me to be able to put on here.
I have my SSID and my WEP. I am on Verizon DSL (only provider in my area). I tried using the wireless setting in network connections and I tried using DSL. I assumed that SSID+Password=Yay the internet works! but apparently not.

! I'm thinking of buying a corei5-660 on a motherboard with an Intel H55 Express Chipset. Does anyone know if it's fully compatible with OpenSUSE 11.3? I mean video (that comes from the processor, not an off-board PCI), audio (HD Audio), networking (Intel 82578DC Gigabit), SATA Controller, USB, etc. I've tried to google but didn't find much info so I wonder if anyone is using or knows where I can find more info about it...
I have found this thread on the forums about the H55 chipset: Core i3 Intel Clarkdale graphic controller problem But the problems were facing on 11.2, I don't know about 11.3...

We have a PC in the office to which I have been granted to install Ubunto 9.04 on it. It has an intel graphic card Q45/Q43 Express Chipset.
I will proceed with the installation in a 1-3 weeks but I am expecting to have problems related to the graphic card not being seen or not configured ok.
Can you tell me how to configure it and what would its xorg.conf look like ?
Until I do the installation, I can use the Live-CD to test out your suggestions or do queries.

I'm a Fedora 12 user on an HP Pavilion dv4 laptop. I'm currently using kernel 2.6.32.11-99.fc12.x86_64, graphics driver xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.9.1-1.fc12.x86_64, and mesa 7.7-4. My graphics card is an Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07).
I've been having some problems getting my 3D acceleration to work. Although it worked correctly in Fedora 11, I have not been able to get it to work yet in Fedora 12.
The output of glxinfo shows:
Running glxinfo with LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose shows:
I found a similar message here: [url]
However, I'm not sure if this is the same problem I have. What does the drm_intel_bo_busy message mean?

I have a problem with the latest Fedora. Installed it cleanly on a machine with Gigabyte H55M-S2 with Intel Core i3. There seems to be no sound and I checked to see if anything is muted but is not. The manual says that the sound chip is ALC888B so this could be the first problem. Any ide how I can make it work? Here is a dump of some things on my system.

It always fails when I try the sound card test. It says like the system cant detect the sound card.
Sound Card: 5 series / 3400 series chipset high definition audio
Module: snd-hda-intel
After searching about the issue, I found the information that installing kmod-alsa-PAE-1.0.20-1.el5.elrepo.i686.rpm and kmod-alsa-1.0.20-1.el5.elrepo.i686 would solve the problem.
But even I downloaded and installed them, nothing changed.

Well, when I run alsaconf, it finds my 82801H and I go on to setting it up, it says it will run, but it doesnt run.
Quote:
Now ALSA is ready to use.
For adjustment of volumes, use your favorite mixer.
But my song don't work, ..... works, but no sound in that, and i have tried running alsamixer to raise the volume to the peak.
I have a vague idea that, this sound card has difficulty in linux but all I get is 3 year old patches for gutsy gibbon and fixes that are non-slackware so I dont have the files and what not.
I have been trying, but never seem to understand why it says it works when it doesnt work.
Oh turns out, from thinkwiki, [url]
Its AD1984 actually, and it didn't work on 2.6.24.2 mine is 2.6.29.2 .

Could people with Chipset : Intel i945PM confirm whether they can use 4Gb ram. I came across lot of posts that their sys will not go beyond 3.2Gb even when they use PAE enabled kernel or 64bit OS. I have this chipset and 4Gb ram and does not matter what I use it will not show more than 3.2Gb. I know that lot of 1st gen netbooks used the same chipset.
I read on some forums that it's a chipset limitation, but intel documents do not say this instead they say that it should support up to 4Gb.

Do you guys remember the inability for lucid to boot with some intel graphics cards?
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1466337
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1472282
Anyway I used a workaround to get it working on my Toshiba Portege laptop. However from it stemmed slower graphics, no splash, et cetera. That didn't worry me too much. However, I am now at the stage where I am getting arrays of different issues (that don't necessarily relate) and I would like to just have a nice clean install. I have been upgrading since 8.something and I long for freshness. My files are allready off.
Has anyone patched the kernel or anything? I'm purely a newbish end user and have not been following launchpad or anything. I did the workaround the week of the release. any fixes floating around? If not, I'll go back to 9.10.

I've got a Laptop with Intel video chipset. I've got a full slackware 13.37 installation and I'm using the huge-smp kernel all though it's not recommended. But I don't think the issue is kernel related. The problem is that it detects that there is a monitor connected to the s-video connector, but there is no picture on the screen. It doesn't matter what mode I use, but ideally I want cloning.
What happens when I use KDE and krandertray (or system-configuration for that matter) is that I can choose resolution and everything but no picture shows up on the TV. When I press the "Identify monitor" (Or something) button both the "1 TV1" and "2 LVDS1" shows up on the same monitor (laptop). That is weird.
Has anyone experienced anything similar or could point me in some direction as to what could be done?(I haven't had the chance to test modifications to xorg.conf quite yet, but I guess that should work. However, I think it's worth it to get rid of this bug)

1. Sometimes when I try to shutdown my computer the display becomes filled with pixels of different colors as shown in the image (The problem is very random so I was not able to take a photo, I tried to recreate the effect using GIMP). Then the display turns off (Analog power saving mode) But my system never turns off.
2. While working on my computer the display sometimes goes kaput and blinks as in the second image. It stops responding completely I am not even able to go to terminal (Ctrl + Alt + F1). Leaving me with no option but to use the reset button. Causing me to loose all the work in progress.
3. Firefox responds very slowly upon closing it takes 5-6 seconds for the window to close.
PS:- KMS is also disabled in my system. Enabling it didn't improve stability. and here is the output of my videocard (lshw)

I recently received my new multimedia laptop - an HP Dv7. I proceeded to install Ubuntu 9.10 on it and I've had no end of troubles with the sound card including, muffled sound - seemingly only coming from the LFE channel, only stereo controls in pavucontrol, failure to send sound out the HDMI port, headphones not working and not cutting of the speakers when the headphones are plugged in.
I believe that all of this will be solved if I get the appropriate driver for my card. I have searched around and sound in particular has tons of posts from many people all with slightly different problems, solutions and hardware. None of the solutions seem to be working. Also I just tried booting from the live CD and the sound is the same - no 5.1 and just muffled sound. I think my sound card is just too new and there doesn't exist a proper driver for it yet.
Here's what I get with lscpi:
Code:
% lspci | grep Audio
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset High Definition Audio (rev 05)
01:00.1 Audio device: nVidia Corporation Device 0be2 (rev a1)

I have an HP Pavilion laptop running Xubuntu 11.04. It has an Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device (rev 02) chipset. The driver I'm using is a vesa driver. I ran a check from compiz-check.com to see if my computer could run compiz and it said that I don't have the right driver to run it.It asked if I wanted to check for any proprietary drivers, I ran the check and it came back with nothing. I used to have Ubuntu 9.10 on this same laptop and it ran compiz no problem so I'm a little confused why it won't work with the newer version. Is there something I'm missing? Maybe another driver out there I can try? And if there's really nothing I can do, is there anything out there comparable to compiz that my computer could run? I've been hesitant to upgrade from 9.10 because I ran into this problem with 10.04 so I went back to Karmic and stuck with it until they weren't updating it anymore.

I have a TP T400 and wanted to use a bit of Linux. Installed Ubuntu 10.04 in my notebook using Virtualbox. The problem is that it doesn't recognizes the video chipset, which is a X4500 integrated graphics. After booting I receive an error msg saying that my video is not recognized and asks if I want to fix it. Dunno how to do that, so I cancel. After that I can only use 800x600, wanted widescreen (1440x900). Is there a simple way to fix it? Liked Ubuntu, wanted to use it.

The correct 96-series nVidia drivers for 10.10 weren't issued until several months after that release. Now they do not work for 11.04 and no one on the Ubuntu forums seems to know the correct information about work arounds, I stumbled onto the X.org drivers but I do not know if I have them installed correctly or not. I am getting 1280 x 1024 at supposedly 0 Hz but probably 60Hz. It is a good work around as OC is used mostly for text editing and e-mail.

im having problems finalizing the installation of fedora 10 on a new ASUS P5E-VM that uses Intel G35 chipset.
1. i think fedora did not recognize the video driver since all the installation was in text mode and i cannot use "init 5" to load a UI
2. i tried to find some drivers (if any1 can recommend a rpm that i can download i will apprichiate it very much) but could not transfer them to the fedora since i could not mount any USB disk on key in the linux i tried using: mount -t vfat /mnt/usb (after mkdir /mnt/usb)
3. i tried to burn the driver but then could not access the dvd...
4. no internet connection yet... but thats because i cannot access my network drives that are on the USB key as well...

I'm having trouble getting X to work after switching from onboard intel video to a 5000 series ATI card. Apparently I need to switch to a MESA or fglrx driver. I did a sudo apt-get install fglrx-driver and it installed but still no X. I'm currently using Karmic. I've tried to boot with a live CD which works fine and changed the xorg file manual but that was a mess.
When I start I get a checking battery state ... done and it stays there forever sometimes and sometimes I can login but without x. Typing startx gives me a long list that says check the xorg website. I've been looking around for a way to fix this and haven't been able to get it working.
