Networking :: Unable To Ssh Linux Box From Other Linux Boxes
Mar 12, 2010
I am unable to ssh a Linux box from other Linux boxes; also tried to window putty.Although I am getting the password prompt instantaneously. So far, by comparing logs of other server, I am just able figure out that "debug2: callback start" is not coming in ssh -vvv logs.
I'm trying to set up a mini grid of linux boxes, but am quite new to setting linux up.I've installed fedora 13 on one and would like to be able to SSH in to it. All boxes are within a university network (under a proxy if that makes any difference?).I can mount a shared disc easily enough, and SSH out to other computers (that I didn't set up myself),I've tried following a few threads, temporarily taking down firewalls, disabling SELinux, messing around with iptables but can't seem to manage it.
I noticed tonight when I go to Places, Network, it will bring up an icon for Windows Network, and I can drill down to my Windows box. But I can't see the other Linux box (a laptop running Kubuntu), and the same behavior occurs on the laptop when trying to view the Linux desktop. The laptop is connected wirelessly, if that makes a difference. Each box can ping the others, but I don't yet know how to browse one Linux box from the other Linux box.
I have tried to find a simple "how to". People testify how simple sharing over Linux networks is, but I just can't make it.I have a desktop with Mint LXDB on it. My wife has a laptop with Ubuntu Lucid Lynx connected with a wireless LAN to a D-Link router.
But I can't open mine from her laptop. My aim is to connect her to a backup station connected to my computer. I have been looking into https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SettingUpNFSHowTo. It is six pages long, complicated and i can't make it work.If networking in Linux should be so simple and native, there must be a better way..I hope.
I have a printer connected to one PC running slackware. The printer is set up to be shared through Samba and I can print to it from my Windows laptop.I would however like to use that printer from another Linux machine (running Ubuntu).Do I need to go through Samba to do this or is there a better way with it being linux-linux?Everything I've found on google relates to going from Linux to Windows unfortunately.
I need create ssh forwarding to other linux box that works as a proxy.I have two linux boxes(centos 5.5), one in the office(server1) behind firewall, other at colocation(server2)server1 has squid proxy instaled on port 3128.i cant use server1 as a direct proxy from home because its behind firewall.iwas able to create ssh tunnel from server1 to server2 and when i log in to server2 ican ssh root@localhost -p 12312 to server1
what i need is configure server2 so it forwards port server2:3128 to server1:3128....and i could add server2 ip addres and port to firefox proxy's and access ofice network.
if anyone of you have shifted using Paid Red Hat Linux with CentOS, and what are your experiences of moving from Paid Linux to Unpaid Linux CenOS. When do you suggest a person use Paid Linux and when to use Unpaid Linux?
I have learnt that the network locked huawei modems may be unlocked to use any sim card bu getting a special unlock code and it should ask for it when a "foreign" SIM card is inserted. This procedure works well in Windows, but in Linux where I use wvdial, I dont get prompted for this unlock code. Does anyone know how to insert the unlock code in Linux using any Linux tool (GAMMU/GNOKII/Minicom etc)?
linux 5.4(RHEL) and window machine are pinging nicely.able to access window on linux but not linux at window(xp)? xinetd is running on linux as well as telnet service is also running on xp.
So I am trying to install Plastic 2.8.148.0 on a virtual server. I have the install package that i copied over to the machine using WinSCP i then gave the file executable permissions by using the command "chmod +x PlasticSCM-professional-2.8.148.0-linux-installer.bin" But when i try to install the package by using the command "sudo ./PlasticSCM-professional-2.8.148.0-linux-installer.bin" It gives me the following message.
sudo: unable to execute ./PlasticSCM-professional-2.8.148.0-linux-installer.bin - No such file or directory
why it isn't recognizing it? I know the file was there because i was able to change permissions and i can see it with -ls command.
I want to set up a VPN between my fedora11 and a xp on same lan to be able to use the resources on my xp. ( printers and fileservers )Reading more about VPN makes me more and more confused.
I am testing with Suse Linux Enterprise Server 10 in a VMWare environment. I've installed two SLES10 servers, named sles1 and sles2. I can't get the two servers to communicate, even a simple ping won't work. The "Network Adapter" in VMWare is set to "bridged", a setting which has worked fine when installing WinXP in VMWare and connecting to the Internet.Even if I ping sles1 from sles1 (= "pinging myself"), I get the same error message.Only if I ping localhost, I get a proper ping result. What did I do wrong? Did I forget to configure something?
I have a client in Pittsburgh that has a Mac server and a Linux (RHEL) server on a LAN. They have a Netgear FVS 318v3 router on which they had a VPN running. They could do this because they had the router configured for IP-SEC and they only had Mac laptops as clients. I'm told Mac laptops can be configured to connect to IP-SEC VPNs, but Linux (I have Ubuntu) clients cannot.
I'm told that we need an PPTP VPN, and that the Netgear can not act as an endpoint, but can pass PPTP traffic to one of the servers if we set them up as a PPTP server.
We hired two different network consultants to set up the VPN, but neither one is able to set up a VPN to allow both the Mac and Linux laptops to connect.
Why is this so difficult? Lots of companies have VPNs that allow any client to connect.
Would it be better for us to purchase a different router that can act as a PPTP endpoint?
Do I want the router to act as a PPTP endpoint, or would it be better for me to use the Netgear and set up a PPTP service on one of the servers? Or, is there some better solution?
I have got a Laptop running Arch Linux and a Macbook. I have got a wireless network via my broadband router and get acccess both laptops remotely via ssh and sftp.I have been trying to set up NFS on both laptops with th intention of backing up one laptop to the other. I have installed the necessary file on both the laptops and have also set up the exports file as per instructions on the Arch Linux wiki.
Why linux traceroute uses UDP protocol, we have basic ICMP protocol which is used in MS-windows tracert.Any specific use of traceroute using with UDP,TCP than ICMP?Windows is displaying all HOPs address but linux printing *.*.*
I wonder if someone could please direct me to a really simple guide to adding a Linux Mint 10 PC to a Windows XP home network that gives clear instructions for the actions to be carried out in both Linux and Windows XP? The Linux box is connected to the router by ethernet cable. I have tried the Samba Setup Guide [URL] but it ends cryptically with "Now you need to setup your Windows PC for domain logins" and none of the IT folk I have asked at work know what that means.
Box 1: older Asus A7N8X-E deluxe w/onboard ethernet using dhcp Box 2: new Asus M4A785-M Micro ATX w/onboard gigabit ethernet using dhcp Laptop: Dell Studio 1745 w/Intel 5100 a/b/g wireless Router: Linksys WRT54G set as dhcp server
Both windows boxes are set for workgroup "home"Laptop is "laptop.home"They can all connect outside to the internet but don't seem able to see each other, not even to ping each other.

when I try to access the shares from a Win98 laptop. The server name shows up in the Network Neighborhood (freaking childish names!) but when I double-click it, Win98 keeps asking me for the password for the \SHOPIPC$ connection. I have deleted the .pwl file on the Win98 and logged in using the same user/pass combination as I do on the Linux. On the Linux, I ran 'smbpasswd -a derek' and supplied my password.Windows XP sees the server just fine, but Windows 98 just does not want to play nice. Is there any thing that I can do to fix this without breaking the connection to the XP box or the Linux laptop?
I am facing an annoying problem with the wireless network of my university. The network is open, doesnt have wpa/wep, and once connected when requesting any page in the browser it gets redirected to a login page. Basically any pc running windows works fine, however if the os is linux-based than the pc connects just fine, it gets an ip, but the login page never loads. I have tried several browsers, several machines, even my android smartphone is locked out as well as all my friends running ubuntu, arch linux and others linux distros. The technical support never answered my email, and it's now 3 weeks that we are all without internet.
i really confuse now..many people gave recommendation for many book.i have little experience on networking what is the best book for understand Linux Networking from Scratch..
