Guy Im having issues getting my NIC to work. I dont think the NIC is faulty because when I plug the network cable in I get the green and orange light and I get the below result when running lspci | grep net

Linux Server automatically reboots when i plug in the network cable.it was working fine till 2 days back and no changes were made to it.any light on this note pls? kindly confirm if any logs are required for the discussion!

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an old Compaq Pro desktop with Ubuntu 8.04 installed. been using it without a major problem until four days ago. When I attempted to boot all I got was a screen with green vertical lines at the top and horizontal yellow, red, and orange lines below that. Since I recently had downloaded a new kernal I tried to use another kernal but that got the same result. I tried to boot with a live cd and finally got it to boot in low graphics mode. I have also tried to boot into the safe mode and tried the recovery option.got the following warning:xserver-xorg postinst warning: overwriteing possibly customized configuration file; backup in /etc/X11/xorg.conf .20100323151611I have no idea what that means or what I should do. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I would really hate to wait the 30 some odd days for 10.04 to come out.
View 4 Replies View Relatedi am getting really pissed off with my new core i5 system I have a gigabyte p55m-ud2 mobo ([URL]) which's got a Realtek 8111D lan chipset it connected to my router after fresh install of ubun10 and then i installed MacOSX 10.6.3 and it worked there too then i came back to ubuntu and it didn't work anymore, after several restarts it was still not working until i took out the power cord and mobo battery, and reinstalled them back later which caused ethernet to work once again. but then after a while it started not to work anymore, which usually got fixed with a reboot. now this time i had ethernet working and i just resumed from screensaver and it stopped agian
there are no green or orange lights flashing at the back and when i take the cable out and reinsert it nothing comes on but with a shutdown they do come on i don't have this problem on the other harddisk which now has win7 and i some times manually change the sata cable to boot into windows and use itunes and some other stuff to load music to my iphone. I dont like to have dualboot and i dont like to use win7 either i just have it on the other hard disk just in case
is the manual switching of hard disk causing this to happen? why do i get it working with restart/shutdown and when i am using it fine it just decides to stop working after a resume from screensaver or sometimes for other reasons and why does none of this happen on win7 is there a way to reconfigure the ethernet drivers or other stuff without a reboot i am thinking it might be a problem with network manager or a bug or something network manager is really crappy and i used to use wicd until that started to do funky things ( like not connecting to hidden networks, launchpad Bug #473817)
the system was off and now it won't boot up. It have power because the monitor is showing the orange light as if the tower is off. I'm assuming it may be the PSU went dead. Well, today, I've changed the PSU which should be a good working one and still no power to the tower system. I dont overclock. As far as I can tell the fan is not spinning since this has happen. This is an Intel C2D, Biostar motherboard, 320gb WD HD & 2gb memory.

The light for the wifi toggle button constantly flashes between blue and orange (normally meaning the wifi card is on or off). Does anybody know how I can fix this?

Green pixels appear on about 20% of the plasma screen; some jump around others stay in one place. I have a nvidia GeForce 7600 GT card. The nvidia restricted drivers are installed. I also tried using a mythbuntu live cd and had the same problems. Is this a problem with a bad cable, bad driver, wrong setup, or something else? How can I get rid of the green pixels?

Sometimes I just want to plug it because I'm downloading something and my battery is running out.I would like to add that when my laptop goes into hibernation, and I try to bring it back up nothing happens, only the fans go on, but no activity other than that, at which point always just end up shutting the computer down cold and restarting it, which is getting to be a huge problem

Anybody seen such an adapter ? After looking an hour or so this morning on USB gadget sites, I found lots of the audio-mic-plug-TO-usb adapters, but this again is the opposite of what I need.
The problem Im having is with older versions of a sound app I use (audacity)_ newer versions of this specifically support USB mics_ but_ that feature is missing in older versions.
Assuming audacity will treat any legal connection via audio port as "mic"
in Lucid ive been trying to get the mail applet to light up green by sending myself mail. Does this applet only light up when IMs r received or does this also work with evolution and if so what might i have done wrong in evolution, ive tried it with evolution open and evolution closed.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI have a system running a very basic LTS install (10.04). Ubuntu has been setup with very little additional packages. No GUI. Once it's booted to a prompt for the first time I add the following packages,
cups cupsys ssh pi memtester nfs-common
aptitude safe-upgrade
At this time I don't have additional information on exactly what packages are installed. I did not perform the installs myself. I will update this thread when I get more details from my IT counterpart on how the system was setup.
This is used for a headless(no monitor, no keyboard) system running some custom applications.
Here are two problems.
1. If I plug into an ethernet network after I boot, the network never connects. I need to reboot with the network connected in order to get an IP. What is the service to "auto connect" to a network?
2. I have a network printer configured on lpd called myprinter. If I am connected to the network when I boot, I can print to this printer just fine using:

However, If I boot disconnected from the network and print to myprinter, the jobs obviously cannot print. They get spooled. Using 'lpstat -t' I can see that the spooled print jobs are assigned a job number and that myprinter is trying to connect. I shutdown, reconnect my ethernet network and boot up. All my printer configuration is blown away.
/etc/cups/printers.conf has been wiped out to look like this:

My 'good' printer configuration is copied to printers.conf.O
To recover from this, I need to stop cups, copy printers.conf.O to printers.conf, restart cups, and re-setup my network printer.
So, What causes my printers to get wiped out? I've repeated this on 4 systems with the same setup.
I am hoping to move from windows XP to UBUNTU. I access the Internet through an Orange mobile dongle.
The instructions are for either Apple or Microsoft.
Will it work in UBUNTU?

Ok, so I've gotten tired of my router, and I've decided to make my own using IPFire as the OS. Right now I'm looking for ethernet cards that I can use for the green network, but I don't know if I can use 2 for the same network. I'm trying to get 4 ports at 1000 Mbs, and the only thing I've been able to find so far that's within my price range is a card from startech that has 2 ports, but would I be able to use 2 for the green network?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI had a problem with the new network manager a week ago and got it solved with help from the forum so now I'm back again. I have a dual boot with Windows 7 (I have to use it when serving my corporate masters) so I wasn't in my Fedora partition much this week.
I just noticed this and I'm positive it wasn't doing it before my network manager problem but I'm not sure when it started or if they're related.
I'm running F15. The machine is an HP Elitebook 8440p and has a wifi light that is also a touch button to turn the wireless on/off. Whenever there is activity on the network now it blinks between orange and blue. I know that isn't really a big deal but it's really annoying and is driving me completely nuts!! The normal behavior is orange when it's off, solid blue when it's on (or connected) and blinks orange/blue just while it's connecting. During network activity it's always been just solid blue and that's what I want.
I found a script that some Ubuntu users said fixed the same problem but when I tried to copy it the directory they said to put it in "/etc/network/ifup.d" doesn't exist. I'm assuming that's a distro difference between Ubuntu and Fedora?
Has anyone else seen this? Any ideas how to fix it?
i have a hp compaq nc6220 laptop running linux mint 9 isadora. the problem is the mute button on the keyboard is orange and i have no sound at all. the volume icon at the bottom is not muted.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI installed Ubuntu 10.10 amd64 online today. I was using 10.04 32-bit before, and the network drivers were easy to find and install. Ubuntu did the job for me and they worked flawlessly. It was a relief I didn't need to search around.
Even though 10.10 (64bit) found the drivers for me, both ethernet and wireless, they do not seem to be working alright. I installed both, made a restart. I found that the WiFi light on my laptop stays on, even if the wireless network is turned off using either the key combination (Fn+F2), or manually turning it off.
Issues with the ethernet? I am right now using ethernet but it does not care to detect the connection. Empathy won't connect automatically as a result- says no network connection. But here I am, posting this. Evidently, there is a connection, right?
Issues with the wireless? The WiFi light stays on all the time, and it isn't able to get hang of the connection I have at home. It just won't show any wireless connections available. When I tried to connect by giving it the SSID and the encryption type and password, it didn't work. Just kept asking for the password again and again (I have checked with the router- the password is correct).

That is all I can think of right now. I do not want to use CDs. In a way, I would like to do a network boot. So, how do I get the whole HDD visible to the others computers (either/both) and be able to write to it? I want to put Xubuntu on it, and earse the rest of the Hard Drive. The computers getting this are the iMac G3s and the eMac G4. The eMac has 256MB RAM, 40GB HDD, and a 700MHz processor. Two iMacs have 128MB RAM, 40GB HDD, and a 600MHz Processor. The other iMac is the same as the rest but has a 500MHz processor.
