I am hoping to move from windows XP to UBUNTU. I access the Internet through an Orange mobile dongle.
The instructions are for either Apple or Microsoft.
Will it work in UBUNTU?
It is an E160e model.
the system was off and now it won't boot up. It have power because the monitor is showing the orange light as if the tower is off. I'm assuming it may be the PSU went dead. Well, today, I've changed the PSU which should be a good working one and still no power to the tower system. I dont overclock. As far as I can tell the fan is not spinning since this has happen. This is an Intel C2D, Biostar motherboard, 320gb WD HD & 2gb memory.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an old Compaq Pro desktop with Ubuntu 8.04 installed. been using it without a major problem until four days ago. When I attempted to boot all I got was a screen with green vertical lines at the top and horizontal yellow, red, and orange lines below that. Since I recently had downloaded a new kernal I tried to use another kernal but that got the same result. I tried to boot with a live cd and finally got it to boot in low graphics mode. I have also tried to boot into the safe mode and tried the recovery option.got the following warning:xserver-xorg postinst warning: overwriteing possibly customized configuration file; backup in /etc/X11/xorg.conf .20100323151611I have no idea what that means or what I should do. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I would really hate to wait the 30 some odd days for 10.04 to come out.

i have a hp compaq nc6220 laptop running linux mint 9 isadora. the problem is the mute button on the keyboard is orange and i have no sound at all. the volume icon at the bottom is not muted.

Actually, about two times it worked and was connected and I was using it. Though that appears to have been a random and non-recratable event.

I do notice that sometimes the device is mounted as a CD. I've tried ejecting it and it appears to be recognized (i.e the above messages appear in dmesg).
I've been running Ubuntu for a few years now and this is the first time in a while that I've been really stumped. My power went out earlier today. Of course my Ubuntu box was on, so it had a hard shutdown. When it booted back up upon power coming back on, it went to the normal Ubuntu startup screen with the orange progress bar, but stopped about halfway through. It then goes to a black screen, with a continuous stream of y's scrolling down the left of the screen. Like this:

So, I try selecting other sessions (Ctrl-Alt-F1, F2, etc) and only get anything from F1, where it says "Starting Up... <cr> Loading, please wait..." I then reboot into recovery mode and get the same continuous y's. However, now when I press Ctrl-Alt-Del, I get the Recovery Menu, which lets me into a root shell. Below is my fdisk -l output.

I have a Linksys WUSB54GC usb dongle and I have exhausted every thing I know about making this thing work in linux. I am using Fedora 13. Since it is not ready I can not view any networks. Any ideas would be great.

I have two bluetooth usb dongles, one to plug into my pc and one to plug into my linux board, I know that both work as I have tried talking to them both using my mobile/cell phone. Also when I plug the dongle into my linux board it recognizes something has been plugged in. However I am unsure where to go from here. I have tried "searching" for the device using my windows pc, but it will only find my cell phone and not my linux board. I also tried mounting it similar to how i would mount a usb drive e.g. mount dev/sda etc. How to setup the linux board for bluetooth communications?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI am trying to get my daughters Ubuntu Laptop to connect to the internet via a Vodafone USB dongle.
I have managed to get the modem itself to connect to Vodafone using the Sakis3G script (brilliant), however once connected the laptop will not pass data through this connection. i.e. when I select "Vodafone prepaid" as a network connection, the little pop up comes up and says GSM no connected?
When I get a connection information from Sakis, it gives an IP address and even had a tiny bit of throughput, however I do not know how to tell it to use the vodafone thingy.
I'm having a bit of trouble with my wifi. Every time the network has activity, it blinks between orange and blue. The normal behaviour of the LED is to be blue when wifi is enabled and orange when disabled. Often it blinks rapidly between the two, sometimes appearing white the change is so rapid. You can see how this would be annoying (as well as raise some concern over the life of the LED's)...

i am getting really pissed off with my new core i5 system I have a gigabyte p55m-ud2 mobo ([URL]) which's got a Realtek 8111D lan chipset it connected to my router after fresh install of ubun10 and then i installed MacOSX 10.6.3 and it worked there too then i came back to ubuntu and it didn't work anymore, after several restarts it was still not working until i took out the power cord and mobo battery, and reinstalled them back later which caused ethernet to work once again. but then after a while it started not to work anymore, which usually got fixed with a reboot. now this time i had ethernet working and i just resumed from screensaver and it stopped agian
there are no green or orange lights flashing at the back and when i take the cable out and reinsert it nothing comes on but with a shutdown they do come on i don't have this problem on the other harddisk which now has win7 and i some times manually change the sata cable to boot into windows and use itunes and some other stuff to load music to my iphone. I dont like to have dualboot and i dont like to use win7 either i just have it on the other hard disk just in case
is the manual switching of hard disk causing this to happen? why do i get it working with restart/shutdown and when i am using it fine it just decides to stop working after a resume from screensaver or sometimes for other reasons and why does none of this happen on win7 is there a way to reconfigure the ethernet drivers or other stuff without a reboot i am thinking it might be a problem with network manager or a bug or something network manager is really crappy and i used to use wicd until that started to do funky things ( like not connecting to hidden networks, launchpad Bug #473817)
How do I change the ugly default orange color for the loading bars and stuff? I know how to change things with the window manager, but that only changes the frames and "min, max, close" buttons. I like everything about the theme I have, and the way the window manager is set, except it uses that ugly orange color when things are loading or downloading. How do I change that part? Can I change only that part by itself?

All seems relatively well however I've plugged in a Bluetooth USB dongle and nothing has happened - oh well, I didn;t expect it to. Of course I'm used to MS Windows OS plug 'n Play and I know this isn't generally how Linpus Lite OS operates but despite looking around I can't find an explanation on how to activate the Bluetooth adapter. There are instructions and demos on how to add a Bluetooth component to the board but I'm not an engineer, neither professional nor hobbyist, so Im not interested in doing that. I've downloaded the Bluetooth zip file from the Acer Spire One support site it has been installed on the Netbook but there still appears to be no Bluetooth connection.

Few days back I want to try for Kubuntu and I installed it through Ubuntu.Now I can log to either Ubuntu or Kubuntu.But when I connect to Kubuntu I cant connect to Internet with Kubuntu network manager.When I try to make a usb disk with kubuntu I realise that my usb dongle detected as a disk.How should I connect to Internet by using my usb dongle.

The light for the wifi toggle button constantly flashes between blue and orange (normally meaning the wifi card is on or off). Does anybody know how I can fix this?
I just did a new install on a pc chips p23g motherboard based machine. This motherboard has a built in 10/100 connector. When installing I noticed that the connection flashed orange for a bit and then returned to simply flashing slow. Its my understanding that if you have a green steady light and a flashing orange then there IS a connect. If this is true then, for some reason the install didn't find it or didn't install a driver for it. I installed 2 times just to make sure.Oh, when installing, off the dvd (10.4) it said there was a problem but it would give me a desktop so that I could figure it out.I am clueless.There was a box to install and that is what I have been using. Obviously, I am missing something here
View 6 Replies View RelatedI bought this not too long ago and it worked great in my ubuntu 8.04 install. When in windows I decided to pair the bluetooth combo with a different bluetooth dongle. After changing it back to the original MS dongle (which I used in ubuntu) the keyboard no longer responds in ubuntu. It works in the CMOS, it works on my windows computer, but not in ubuntu anymore. Mouse works fine, and so does the touch pad on the keyboard.
Is there any way around this? I've tried re-pairing, and waiting a very long time...
Just re-installed Bodhi. Ran update, dist-update, set up connection and connection still slow or timing out and reporting errors in 'iwconfig'. This is 3rd re-install of this version. Have also tried 3.0 kernel and pae versions of Bodhi. Cannot get this connection up to speed and without errors. Atheros chipset ar9271.

I followed instructions to update driver listed at Linux Wireless.
In addition to following the directions at Linux Wireless, I also downloaded the GUI Program to install ath9k_htc.
No luck. My connection reports 1M/s and is reporting "invalid misc:" errors in iwconfig.

I'm using KDE 4.5 with Ubunthu 9.04 installed Laptop. The problem occurs when I'm going to connect internet with my Huawai E160 dongle. The network manager program didn't identify my dongle so I can't connect to the internet. I have create a broadband connection in network manager program.
I can connect to internet with GNOME desktop since dongle is detect and I can create a Broadband connection and connect to the internet.
