Hardware :: Adapter FROM Usb Plug - On Cable - To Standard Mic - Audio Port ?
Jan 3, 2010
My question regards available hardware... an adapter taking a USB plug_ at end of a mic cable_ which adapter would then connect to the computer's standard audio/mic input.
Anybody seen such an adapter ? After looking an hour or so this morning on USB gadget sites, I found lots of the audio-mic-plug-TO-usb adapters, but this again is the opposite of what I need.
The problem Im having is with older versions of a sound app I use (audacity)_ newer versions of this specifically support USB mics_ but_ that feature is missing in older versions.
Assuming audacity will treat any legal connection via audio port as "mic"
My problem here is the following: whenever I plug or unplug the AC cable in or out of my laptop it goes on hibernation, which is very annoying indeed. Sometimes I just want to plug it because I'm downloading something and my battery is running out.I would like to add that when my laptop goes into hibernation, and I try to bring it back up nothing happens, only the fans go on, but no activity other than that, at which point always just end up shutting the computer down cold and restarting it, which is getting to be a huge problem
Linux Server automatically reboots when i plug in the network cable.it was working fine till 2 days back and no changes were made to it.any light on this note pls? kindly confirm if any logs are required for the discussion!
Guy Im having issues getting my NIC to work. I dont think the NIC is faulty because when I plug the network cable in I get the green and orange light and I get the below result when running lspci | grep net
Greetings from Arizona, USA:Is there a true plug-and-play USB wireless adapter that is known to work well with Ubuntu 11.04 (32-bit)? Background: * HP Pavilion zv6000 or zv6100 (Older notebook being used for business purposes. It came with Windows XP Home Edition.)* Installed Ubuntu 11.04 (32-bit)* PROBLEM: Don't have WiFi as well as another item or so. Novice Ubuntu user.* Ran this in terminal: sudo lspci* 03:02.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4306 802.11b/g Wireless Lan Controller (rev 03)I have not performed a lot of research on this problem, but what little I've done tells me I could spend a fair amount of time trying to get WiFi to work on this notebook. If a user-tested, literal plug-and-play USB wireless adapter exists for Ubuntu 11.04, it might be cheaper time-wise to just buy it rather than try to get my existing hardware to work.
When I first turn it on to the desktop, it automatically connects and disconnects automatically 5 times then sometimes it would disconnect a few times randomly out of the blue.
This ia an external single usb wireless adapter you plug in the usb port on my desktop tower.
I am running Ubuntu 64-bit and I have been trying to set up an ssh connection between the Ubuntu server and a Windows 7 client (using putty) and when I enter the command:
Code: sudo netstat --inet -lpn | grep sshd I get the following:
I am using this usb wifi adapter, it uses zd1211rw and it works fine if I connect it directly to the usb port, but if I add a cable (around 5mts) between the usb port and the usb plug, the device doesn't appear (I used iwconfig to check). The green light on the wifi adapter turns on but it doesn't blink like it does when connecting it directly without the cable. What could be happening?
I use the same cable + usb wifi adapter in windows, and it works fine, I can scan and connect without problems. When I use the cable, lsusb doesn't show the device neither, it does when connecting the adapter directly.
I have been struggling with this for the past two days and I can't seem to figure it out.SIMPLE GOAL: use subdomains with my wildcard Rapid SSL cert on Apahce2. This is not a chained certificate.Currently my default SSL virtual host, listening on 443 works fine. So, https://www.myDomain.com is recognized correctly by all browsers. But, the below virtual host listening on port 1025 is not coming across to the browser securely. The page renders, but the browsers do not see it as encrypted SSL.
It appears that my ISP is blocking port 80, so I can't set up a proper website on my home computer. I'd like to choose a different port to use (they block 443 also), and I'm not sure how to do this with Fedora (or any Linux flavor for that matter
I'm using iptables with modules ip_contrack_ftp to be able to use passive ftp. It works well as long as port 21 is being used as listening port. Is there any way to make it work when I configure my ftp server (vsftpd) to listen on an alternative port, lets say 21001 or something? The helper module only seems to be working properly with the standard port, so I was wondering whether there was a way to "tell it" that another port is being used? I mean, of course I make a rule in fw to allow traffic to the alternative port.
But once it's time to start passive connection, then the iptable module cannot handle it properly. I could solve the problem by making a range of passive ports in the ftp-server configuration and allow the incoming traffic to them, but then using helper modules doesn't make any sense. I just want to allow the traffic to the listening port and then want the ip_contrack_ftp module to take care of the rest. This is what I do today - but only port 21 seems to be working. Is there a way to do this with a non-standard ftp port?
I am running Karmic (9.10) on an MSI U120 Wind. I dislike netbook-remix but that is beside the point.
Last night I made the biggest mistake of my life which is causing a loss of still counting hours. I decided to do an update, due to having enough bandwidth, and security updates to download.
So it finished, and I went to sleep.
This morning I went to plug in my speakers to the audio jack so I can listen to music loud, and it was all distorted. I changed al 8 or 9 volume controls and nothing. I unplugged the wire from the audio jack, and the sound is perfect on my netbook's speakers.
I have tried different wires, speakers, editing config files, removing and purging related packages, and nothing works...
I have been google-ing for hours and everyone seems to have the same problem, but all of the supposed fixes do not work for me...
So first off, it probably seems this question has been asked thousands of times before. but I did do a search, mostly archived posts that ended up being something other than a true ip blocking of the port. [URL]..
So my port 80 is truly blocked. Ive tried setting up the port forwarding on my router, Ive tried manually allowing all traffic on port 80 through ip tables. Ive even dabbled with setting up something like openDNS to see So far nothing, Im only available on my local network.
There has to be some way to do a redirect though. even something as simple as an htaccess file redirecting [URL].. xxxx (the space is there to avoid my url being interrupted by a smiley
I have upgraded from 9.04 to 10.04. 9.04 found my usb connected printer ( LaserJet 6MP) with no problems. But 10.04 will not find the usb port to which my printer is connected. I have searched for a solution on the forum, and others seem to have a similar problem, but not recognized it. For some it seemed to have self corrected, but I am having no such luck. I have downloaded hplip from [URL]
Following their instructions, I have run "hp-setup" in Terminal. This gives the following output: Code: cs@cs-desktop:~$ hp-setup HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 3.10.5) Printer/Fax Setup Utility ver. 9.0 Copyright (c) 2001-9 Hewlett-Packard Development Company, LP

(bus=usb, search=(None), desc=0) error: No devices found on bus: usb After disconnecting and reconnecting the printer cable, I used the command "dmseg| tail"

I interpret this to mean that the printer is seen from this command. Yet when I do the "lsusb" command, I get this output: Code: s@cs-desktop:~$ lsusb Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 002 Device 003: ID 050d:0002 Belkin Components Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub This to me indicates that the printer is not seen by the "lsusb" command.
I would like to get my printer printing. I am trying to get hold of an older parallel Centronics printer cable with a DB25 at the other end to see if I can get the printer working with it. Have others done this with success?
I see lots of threads on converting your CDs to MP3s, but I want to do the opposite. I want to burn MP3s into CDs that will play on older CD players that dont have MP3 support.
So how do I do it? I have Mint on this particular computer, which is like having Medibuntu already I think.
I just upgraded from FC 13 to FC 14. I run an ssh server on a port in the 3000s (call it 3xxx, to protect the innocent). When I try to start sshd with the "Port 3xxx" option in sshd_conf, I get the following error in /var/log/secure
sshd[5104]: error: Bind to port 3xxx on 0.0.0.0 failed: Permission denied. sshd[5104]: error: Bind to port 3xxx on : : failed: Permission denied.
I did not use to have this problem in FC 13. how I can give sshd the necessary permissions now?
have recently installed CentOS 5.6 Final on TWO DIFFERENT desktop PC's, and, on EITHER ONE, I can not get any sound output when using KMid to play a "standard .mid file (the file I am using to experiment with is "Canyon.mid", from the Windoze Media directory, a fairly standard midi audio file, I should think?!). I have normal audio output on both of these machines (.mp3 files, system sounds, etc.), so the specific sound cards are NOT the issue, here!I am thinking I must be missing something, as both of these PC's are completely different CPU types, etc. as well. The only significant similiarity in the two machines is the complete lack of MIDI audio output! And, yea, the soundcards are BOTH MPU-401 compatible, and they both have irq's assigned to this port (or, maybe just one has an irq assigned, I will have to double check...).
All such conversions doesnt produce any *.flac file. It seems flac doesnt accept minus sign for the standard input although flac manual allows to use it.
So my question is how I can use the standard input in order to decode audio data with flac?
I am running Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) on a five year old desktop computer with no problems what-so-ever until that is when i try to use aMSN. The aMSN program is great and problems only arise when i try to configure the audio and webcam. When i open up Preferences -> Edit audio and video settings and try to configure the audio and webcam everything just freezes solid and the only way i can un-freeze the computer is to disconnect the plug from the power connection.
On other occasions when i have again attempted to configure the audio and webcam the whole aMSN program just vanishes off the screen altogether? I have a Logitech QuickCam 8.1.1
I have a Dell Inspirion 5150. The onboard sound card was blown 3 years ago. OS is Ubuntu 8.10. I am also a HAM radio operator and use the computer for digital modes using a USB device that acts as an external sound card modem for me.
The program that I use for that is fldigi. The device is Signalink USB by Tigertronics. the device has the ability to have speakers plugged in to it. Question: Is there a way to have the computer send the audio out the USB cable to the device?
I have looked at my sound settings and there are USB devices but none of them are the one(s) that I use with my Signalink device. If it can't be done, no worries -- have not really needed it so far. Just something nice to have.
The issue is that my CentOS workstation is in a vlan from where the Intranet's DNS servers are unreachable. For browsing the web there is an ISA proxy server, which I presume resolves DNS for my firefox. However, wget, host, ping and aria2c fail to get any sort of DNS resolution since they're being run from command line.I have exported HTTP_PROXY value, which provides me internet access on console, but, only when I connect using IP address. It fails on name resolution.
My question is:May I redirect the DNS queries to my home PC which would be running a DNS server on a non standard port?I was thinking of putting nameserver 127.0.0.1 in /etc/resolv.conf and then put iptables rule to redirect 127.0.0.1:53 UDP to a.public.ip.address:3535 UDP..I don't know if I am shooting blanks or what, I am not very much aware of this kind of setup. My main need is to provide DNS resolution to console apps.I want to utilize my company's idle bandwidth for bulk downloads, so, using proxy, SSH tunneling through my Home PC is out of question.
I have no problems with the sound card, however, when I connect a PD552 USB sound adapter into a 4 port hub in order to use headphones it simply doesn't work. I posted the problem on the Ubuntu site and received a suggestion to run lsusb from a terminal. I did this but never received any other replies addressing the issue. This is what I receive from the command. It shows up as device 7 but I have no idea of what my next steps are to insure it will work.
I am trying to get two way serial communications going between a Windows XP system and a Linux system (RHEL 5).I have /sbin/agetty -L 9600 ttyS0
in /etc/inittab. I am using a generic USB to serial adaptor on Windows (Unitek) and a null modem cable. I have putty configured for 9600 baud, 8 bits, no parity, one stop bit, no flow control.I get the login prompt from agetty in the putty window but input does not work; I see weird characters in the putty screen. I can echo output into the device from windows and see it, but
cat < /dev/ttyS0. just prints out weird characters from what I type.
I want to use my C-Media USB Audio Adapter with Slackware 13.1
When I connect the device it is shown in lsudb:
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 0d8c:c C-Media Electronics, Inc. Audio Adapter
Do i need to have the snd_usb_audio kernel module. However when is call modprobe snd_usb_audio I get: Fata: Module snd_usb_audio not found.
I though that snd_usb_audio was not build with the kernel, so I did:
Without making any modifications the .config the file already has CONFIG_SND_USB_AUDIO=m . Does this mean that the current kernel has that module? If so why I cannot load it?
We have a new machine with RedHat enterprise 5 on it. I need to connect a serial cable to the serial port and talk to another system (old alpha system) instead of using a VT connected to the alpha.Does RedHat come with anything like Keaterm/hyperterm/etc etc?
