Networking :: Can Use 2 Ethernet Cards For Green Network In Ipfire?

Jul 5, 2010

Ok, so I've gotten tired of my router, and I've decided to make my own using IPFire as the OS. Right now I'm looking for ethernet cards that I can use for the green network, but I don't know if I can use 2 for the same network. I'm trying to get 4 ports at 1000 Mbs, and the only thing I've been able to find so far that's within my price range is a card from startech that has 2 ports, but would I be able to use 2 for the green network?

Ubuntu Networking :: Ethernet - No Green Or Orange Lights Flashing At Back

Jun 22, 2010

i am getting really pissed off with my new core i5 system I have a gigabyte p55m-ud2 mobo ([URL]) which's got a Realtek 8111D lan chipset it connected to my router after fresh install of ubun10 and then i installed MacOSX 10.6.3 and it worked there too then i came back to ubuntu and it didn't work anymore, after several restarts it was still not working until i took out the power cord and mobo battery, and reinstalled them back later which caused ethernet to work once again. but then after a while it started not to work anymore, which usually got fixed with a reboot. now this time i had ethernet working and i just resumed from screensaver and it stopped agian

there are no green or orange lights flashing at the back and when i take the cable out and reinsert it nothing comes on but with a shutdown they do come on i don't have this problem on the other harddisk which now has win7 and i some times manually change the sata cable to boot into windows and use itunes and some other stuff to load music to my iphone. I dont like to have dualboot and i dont like to use win7 either i just have it on the other hard disk just in case

is the manual switching of hard disk causing this to happen? why do i get it working with restart/shutdown and when i am using it fine it just decides to stop working after a resume from screensaver or sometimes for other reasons and why does none of this happen on win7 is there a way to reconfigure the ethernet drivers or other stuff without a reboot i am thinking it might be a problem with network manager or a bug or something network manager is really crappy and i used to use wicd until that started to do funky things ( like not connecting to hidden networks, launchpad Bug #473817)

Ubuntu Networking :: 9.0.4 - Supported Ethernet Cards That Work Flawlessly?

Apr 29, 2010

I'm running Ubuntu 9.0.4 with an Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection. I have been trying for a couple weeks now different techniques to get my wired ethernet connection working properly. I have a seeming common issue with my e100 driver dropping connection and having hard time picking it back up sometimes. I want to purchase a relatively inexpensive Ethernet card whose generic Linux driver actually operates it CORRECTLY, open up comp and put it in, and update to 9.10. Any list of Ethernet cards that are know to work flawlessly on Ubuntu, or at least tell me which card YOU are using that works perfect without having to write code, install wrapper programs, etc...?

Networking :: 2 Ethernet Cards Prevent Recognition Of Wireless Card?

Apr 3, 2011

I have two motherboards, MSI-6702 (64 bit single channel) and MSI-7511 (64 bit dual channel), I have two identical D-Link wireless cards and am running Kubuntu 10.10 on both systems. 7511 recognizes both wireless cards and connects to the Internet. The 6702 shows wireless grayed out on the connections page. The built-in Ethernet card has given out on both. I think I disabled it on the first system to have an Ethernet problem and wonder if I need to do it on the second. I would have tried it already but can' t remember how.

Networking :: IP Keeps Changing Between Network Cards?

Jul 8, 2010

I have a small pc running fedora 8 with iptables and 2 network cards for routing/firewall and secondary DNS.For some time I've been alerted by the network guys that this machine was generating some alerts. The real network IP address keeps being assigned to the other interface, intended for LAN only (10.0.0.1/24).I've already changed the PC, installed a more recent operating system, replaced the 2 network cards and the problem persists. I have another pc running the same services (except DNS) in a very simillar way and no alert logs from that one.onder if it is some configuration issue on my startup firewall script.I've also installed arpwatch and I could confirm this IP and physical address issue:

Arpwatch output:
hostname: my.host.name
ip address: my.ip.address

Ubuntu :: Ethernet Cards Not Connecting?

Mar 9, 2011

i have ubuntu 10.10 64b and for some reason last night the wired network autoeth01 suddenly will not connect to my router. it is a dual boot machine so i booted into windows and it is working fine in that OS.

I then had a look at the status on my laptop running ubuntu 10.10 32b and that was showing the same message "wired network autoeth01 disconnected" i cannot for the life of me figure this out. just before it was disconnected i had been copying 7gigs worth of data using samba from the 32b machine to the 64 bit machine.

i have tried deleting the wired entry and recreating it.

tried different cables

even changed the router

works with all windows machines connected to network

here is what comes up in lfconfig:

jason@ubuntu1:~$ lfconfig
No command 'lfconfig' found, did you mean:
Command 'fconfig' from package 'redboot-tools' (main)
Command 'ifconfig' from package 'net-tools' (main)
Command 'ldconfig' from package 'libc-bin' (main)

Ubuntu Networking :: If Plug Into An Ethernet Network After Boot The Network Never Connects

Oct 5, 2010

I have a system running a very basic LTS install (10.04). Ubuntu has been setup with very little additional packages. No GUI. Once it's booted to a prompt for the first time I add the following packages,

cups cupsys ssh pi memtester nfs-common
aptitude safe-upgrade

At this time I don't have additional information on exactly what packages are installed. I did not perform the installs myself. I will update this thread when I get more details from my IT counterpart on how the system was setup.

This is used for a headless(no monitor, no keyboard) system running some custom applications.

Here are two problems.

1. If I plug into an ethernet network after I boot, the network never connects. I need to reboot with the network connected in order to get an IP. What is the service to "auto connect" to a network?

2. I have a network printer configured on lpd called myprinter. If I am connected to the network when I boot, I can print to this printer just fine using:

Code:

However, If I boot disconnected from the network and print to myprinter, the jobs obviously cannot print. They get spooled. Using 'lpstat -t' I can see that the spooled print jobs are assigned a job number and that myprinter is trying to connect. I shutdown, reconnect my ethernet network and boot up. All my printer configuration is blown away.

/etc/cups/printers.conf has been wiped out to look like this:

Code:

My 'good' printer configuration is copied to printers.conf.O

To recover from this, I need to stop cups, copy printers.conf.O to printers.conf, restart cups, and re-setup my network printer.

So, What causes my printers to get wiped out? I've repeated this on 4 systems with the same setup.

My question is: If I upgrade my notebook's 11.0 up to 11.2, am I sure to have my files intact? Is 11.2 sure to "see" the ethernet card?

Slackware :: 2 Ethernet Cards Using The Same Driver As Module?

Oct 11, 2009

i have 2 nic's that use the same 8139too module to be operated.so in order to run them i added in /etc/modprobe.d/a file with 2 aliases for the 2 nics alias eth0 8139too alias eth1 8139too and I added a udev rule to give the name eth1 to the 2nd card (the 1st card already had a rule) i still don't get the 2nd rule to be brought up automatically at start up... ifconfig only returns 'eth0' and i have to manually do 'ifconfig eth1 up' at which time the interface is brought up nicely.. then i do a dchpcd to get a network address and im all set. but i would like to do this automatically... note that i know that if i add static ips in /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf i will get both ifs up... but i wonder how its gonna happen with the 2nics being 2 dhcp clients.

Ubuntu Networking :: Making Sure Two Network Cards Each Have The Correct IP Addresses?

Nov 2, 2010

I've got two NICs connected to two different routers, and on different subnets of course. Each is set for static IP. But somehow I must have mixed up the connections at some point, so the NICs don't always have the IP addresses I expect. I think there may also be a mixup with different ways of setting the network addresses. When I click the Network Icon on the Desktop, I see that each NIC has both addresses as options. The /etc/network/interfaces file has some information about eth0, but all commented out, so there must be another place the addresses get set. And I just discovered that eth0 and eth1 aren't physical but virtual. I guess eth0 is the first one that is set.

Debian :: Local DHCP Server With Two Ethernet Cards

Jul 5, 2015

I recently bought a used Server (FSC RX200 S4) and set it up running Debian 7. Being used to Ubuntu, that was no big deal. It works as it should out of the box. This magic computing machine has four Network cards (eth0 - eth3). Now, I want to set it up as a multi-purpose server. On the one hand, it shall provide a Apache2 webserve, a SQL Server, a File/Streaming Server and so on. I have no problems setting up these.

On the other hand, it should work as a DHCP server in my local lan with some PCs and a printer/scanner. Until now, my cheap router did that job including to connecting me to the internet. Since I can't really set up a proper firewall with that box, I want to use my server for that.

Thats's my desired setup I want to achieve:
[] Router provides internet connection to Server
--> cable goes into eth0
[] Server therefore has a internet connection
--> Some internal magic routes the internet from eth0 to eth1 (preferably as a iptables setup) and does the Firwall & DHCP Service
--> cable goes from eth1 to a switch
--> switch connects the PCs and printer
[] PCs have internet and I can use the printer

So far so good, here's what I've come up with. I installed dnsmasq and isc-dhcp-server. I got some config files for both. I got a script to set up my iptables

Iptables script:
Code: Select all#!/bin/sh
#
# rc.firewall
# firewall with iptables ... stronger version
#
FWVER=0.88s

echo -e "
Loading STRONGER rc.firewall - version $FWVER..

[CODE].....

When starting up the services, I don't see any errors. Still, it doesn't work. My Server loses its internet connection and the PCs connected to the network are unreachable.

When only the wireless card is active, Internet works. As soon as i enable the second wired card, Internet stops working. Are there any ways to solve this? So my Ubuntu box always chooses the wireless card for Internet traffic and let me use the wired device for LAN only?

Networking :: IP Routing WirelessLAN And Ethernet In Same Network

The ethernet interface of Hadrware and test PC is directly connected to Wireless LAN access point through ethernet cable. Hardware is associated to Wireless LAN access point through eth1 interface. Now, when ethernet cable is connected to hardware, I can ping 192.168.254.254 from test PC.When I removed ethernet cable from hardware, I cannot ping 192.168.254.253 from test PC.I think access point should forward the incoming packet from test pc to hardware's eth1 interface wirelessely. Where am I wrong? Is it related to Kernel's routing table? If yes, how to detect removal of ethernet cable from hardware and change routing table dynmically?
