I have tried switching off and re-starting the unit but no effect. What can I do to fix it ?

View 2 Replies View RelatedCurrently we use an iSCSI SAN as storage for several VMware ESXi servers. I am investigating the use of an NFS target on a Linux server for additional virtual machines. I am also open to the idea of using an alternative operating system (like OpenSolaris) if it will provide significant advantages. What Linux-based filesystem favours very large contiguous files (like VMware's disk images)? Alternatively, how have people found ZFS on OpenSolaris for this kind of workload?

I also need to know how various fonts and icons fair on different backgrounds as well as some tips for choosing backgrounds and fonts. I've found bits and pieces of information regarding fonts and font sizes; but, I'm coming up empty on the backgrounds.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a computer that I use for practically everything. In the same room I have a second computer that I use purely for trialing Linux distributions, It currently has Debian, gNewSense and Kubuntu on it with Grub to choose between. This computer has no keyboard / mouse / monitor, but it has directly wired ethernet to the home network. Is there any way I can set it to be remotely controlled from before / during grub so I can choose from the other computer which to run? I realise I can just crawl behind the desk and unplug the keyboard / mouse / monitor, but I don't particularly want to every time I reboot into a different distro. I also realise that remote access during boot is a security risk so is there a way of allowing only one MAC address to do the controlling?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am in the process of building a new desktop machine for work and fun. I am looking to run a undecided flavor of Linux (guessing Ubuntu) as my primary OS and several Windows installs with a Windows 7 install for .net development and gaming as virtualized environments.
From my previous experiences with virtualization software in Linux I was never able to find an application that offered descent video card support / graphic acceleration etc. to be capable of playing any games within one of the virtualized environments. And since I will be investing quite a bit of money into this system for gaming I would naturally want to find the best option available to achieve this setup.
So Onto my question: Is there any virtualization software available for Linux that has full video card support, graphic acceleration and capable of taking advantage of everything the video cards have to offer within the virtualized environments?
Or am I stuck with running Windows 7 as my primary OS and using virtualization for Linux and the other OS's?
Also I have no preference on open/closed source and price range would be up to $175.00 to support at least 3 virtualized environments.
Alright, I've looked through a many variety of forums to search for the answer to this problem and haven't found it yet. What is happening is during use of my internet browser, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, on Ubuntu 9.10 there are points in time, could be 10 minutes could be 3 hours, that the interface locks up. The mouse is the only peripheral that works, but nothing happens when clicking and the keyboard is locked as well.
Now I'm new to Ubuntu but not computers, I can work my way around Microsoft Windows and just recently took the jump to Linux and have been working myself in slowly. The problem I'm having seems to occur when using Java oriented websites, yet I can't figure out what the problem is, I've tried installing and re-installing java to no avail. My mind is boggled as to the cause of the problem, but I'm open knowing that there is a lot more to go in the troubleshooting than I'm normally use to.
Here's a listing of what is recognized on my computer:

I just installed fedora on a customers laptop of mine and just trying to get everything working. I hooked up a wireless PCMCIA linksys card and got connected to my wireless and went through the first 250+ updates, all that went fine, so I know I am getting internet access. Everytime I open firefox though I cannot connect to any websites, like I said I am a noob so my troubleshooting skills are very limited with linux, anything I can try etc.

For some reason, no sound seems to come out of any Internet Browser. Other than that, it works fine. So far, I've tried Google Chrome and Konqueror.
I have installed alfresco software(sharepoint alternate in linux ) on rhel 5. but when trying to open thourgh internet explorer.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhat is the quickest and the most elegant way to implement the following scheme:On my computer I have two browsers and two internet channels:
1. Ethernet cable internet
2. USB 3g modem/.
When I execute the first browser it uses only the cable internet and the second one uses the USB modem.
I use Transmission to download torrents off the internet. The problem is whenever I start the download, I cannot access the internet via my web browsers, Chrome AND Firefox. Altho, I can use Pidgin or Empathy to communicate. Why should I do ? I am assuming it is causing some sorta congestion .. I tried giving the downloads "low" priority, applying temporary speed limits but it doesn't help.
View 5 Replies View RelatedAll of a sudden, none of the applications are able to connect to the internet, except the web browser. I use Google Chrome and sometimes Mozilla firefox.
There is a network proxy and I did apply the network proxy setting system wide.
Applications like Dropbox, Messenger etc stopped connecting to internet which were working very well until yesterday.
When I install 99% of Linux distros they all come up as wired eth0 connected but the browser cant connect to the net. I found out it was because it cant find my Voip router if I disconnect the voip router they work fine. I am using NetCom V300 telephone router yet PCLinuxos 2009 has no problem with this issue. I have to use my Voip and also want to use the other 99% linux distros.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have to set up a proxy for my work's network. No computer except the proxy has a direct internet connection. The proxy will NOT be transparent so it authenticates with Active Directory and allows or denies pages. The squid proxy is up, and working accordingly, denying and allowing what's needed to who's needed. BUT! Thunderbird and Outlook didn't work, so in less than 10 minutes I was forced to fall back.
I read googling a lot, and searching a bit here about socks, which seems to be what I need but also that squid is already a socks proxy. Web pages were the concern, it's not needed that other stuff is authenticated, it might as well be transparent for Outlook, Thunderbird and other programs *for example, it's not needed to block a Warcraft III game, though, allowing it explicitly is not the point either* but as of now, none can connect *haven't actually tried Warcraft though, but stuff like Adobe's updater didn't work either and I recall someone mentioned Windows Live messenger didn't either* The Squid Proxy is a CentOS.
I have succesflly installed OpenVPN server and clients(followed tuts). Everything is great, however when I have openvpn connection established on the clients I loose the basic internet connection in the browser, but my clients can see the vpn server(even I can ssh to the server via the openvpn client ip). I am guessing that all the traffic is routed through the server. I am just not knowledgable enough with routing , iptables and internet sharing. I am using tun based setup on OpenVPN. I am just not even sure if this is a server or a client issue, sorry for ignorance and illeteracy.

Able to get software and updates with no problem.
The IVP6 setting is ignored in the Network Configuration. I have triggered it both ways.
As for the firewall configuration, well it freezes at the splash screen when invoked.
Fedora 12 is the first spin, since Fedora 9, that I was able to get any updates. Versions 10 and 11 could not access the internet with anything, no matter what was attempted.
BTW, I am using Mandriva 2010 to get through here.
After I've setup the ubuntu 9.10 I've found that the internet connection working incorrectly. I can ping or even connect to the internet sites with the telnet and see the raw html pages, but when I ran the software center or mozilla I have timeout error message. As a proxy settings I've setup the direct connection in both system and mozilla proxy configurations but it takes no reason. If I put the IP address instead of the domain name in the address bar of the mozilla browser then its loaded the web page correctly. It looks like this problem is relative to some system configuration of X about network (cause telnet google.com 80 working right). I'm using the dhcp connection to the D-Link DSL-504T router.
