The Wifi is connected to my router but it still will not let me access the Internet or any other Internet based operation. (I am running 10.04, I had just installed and and now am trying to get the internet connection running)
View 6 RepliesI've been using my upstairs computer with no problems recently up until this evening, when I rebooted it did an automatic scan of my disks, so I left it to it's thing and when I came back ubuntu had successfully booted, and had seemingly successfully connected to my wireless network as usual.
I've been through the wireless troubleshooting guide, paying special attention to sections 4 and 6 but to no avail, while I'm apparently connected, and have been assigned an IP by my router I'm unable to access anything outside my computer, including the router itself. This happened before, however I solved it by reinstalling ubuntu, and I'd rather not do that again!

I am facing very strange problem with my Dell with WiFi card (04:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Wireless WiFi Link 5100) It seems I am connected to the WiFi but can not access internet I have to disable networking and re-enable it to access internet.

Today I got my laptop back after its motherboard was replaced (soundcard failure) and I am having problems connecting to the internet. Connection to the wifi network is succesful, but Pidgin is not connecting ("SSL Connection Failed") and I can't view any webpages in Firefox. I loaded up Win7 and everything worked fine, connecting to the same wifi network and using the same proxy settings ("No Proxy").
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Mini 10v with a fresh install of latest Ubuntu Netbook Edition. I have enabled proprietary drivers in order to get the WiFi card to work and managed to connect at home, starbucks etc. Good stuff.
For some reason I can detect but not connect to the WiFi at work - I get prompted for the pword and after entering it the WiFi indicater will pulse for a while only to return to the pword prompt. yes, I have the right pword and can connect my iPhone and other laptops. I am really puzzled by this and really need to get on the WiFi at work - wired connection works.
my colleague has the same dell model with windows 7 installed and is able to connect fine - I really don't want that @@@@ installed just to get WiFi. I know password entry error is the obvious solution but I connect new windows devices to it routinely and had other people try too.
After I've setup the ubuntu 9.10 I've found that the internet connection working incorrectly. I can ping or even connect to the internet sites with the telnet and see the raw html pages, but when I ran the software center or mozilla I have timeout error message. As a proxy settings I've setup the direct connection in both system and mozilla proxy configurations but it takes no reason. If I put the IP address instead of the domain name in the address bar of the mozilla browser then its loaded the web page correctly. It looks like this problem is relative to some system configuration of X about network (cause telnet google.com 80 working right). I'm using the dhcp connection to the D-Link DSL-504T router.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI powered up the acer aspire one zg5 and it goes to the first screen but does not connect to the internet when I press the internet button the wifi connection is fine and will download updates fine but will not connect to the browser, am so out of my depth as not familiar with this system , if I dont fix this will have to blame one of the kids.

When i disconnect those devices and connect my Debian PC only then my PC connects to internet but other devices connected to it later do not get inernet connection.
When I connect my Debian PC using LAN Cable to the same router all devices work fine.
installed UB10.10 on a dell d800 laptop with a built in wireless.The eth1 wireless device/connection shows up on the little radio icon as connected .but the chrome browser says "ERR_name_not_resolved" when I enter a common url.What's the next step or hint for gaining full internet access ?
View 4 Replies View RelatedWiFi on this laptop worked fine for a few months then went out; after a reinstall of ubuntu (since 9.xx had come out since then anyway) the wireless still refused to even see networks, let alone connect to them; under Wireless Networks in the NM, I just see a greyed out 'disconnected'. This got me to thinking that it may have just been a hardware issue, but I find that hard to believe. Anyway, here's the pertinent information:

As an addendum : I found this driver project but they claim to require a 2.6.8+ kernel; a quick `uname -r` shows that mine is 2.6.31, and an `apt-cache search linux-image` reveals that to be the highest available from repos; do Debian/Ubuntu distros not use more recent kernels or is this an Ubuntu-specific kernel naming scheme? If so, to what would it be comparable? I'm hesitant to try to install this and change my firmware if it's likely I'll be borking something.
I seem to have is trying to get the internet to work. I can go to ..... ect but when I try to run playonlinux it says you do not seem to be connected to the internet, please post if you have anything useful, as I said I am very new to linux so be as detailed as possible.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm facing a strange problem after upgrading my Ubuntu to 10.10. After I start up the system, the wifi is not getting connected by default (which was getting connected automatically in the earlier version). So I right click on network manager and click on 'Enable Wireless' option and it gets connected. So far so good. Now I close the laptop lid - it goes to sleep mode and after it wakes up, the wifi never gets connected. When I right click on the network manager icon, the 'Enable Wireless' option is disabled! I have to reboot my machine to get connected!

The web navigation is very very slowly. The load of web page is slowly. I don't know what i do. I connect with wifi. the download with software same emule is good. I use firefox but i tried also other browser.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've noticed that switching to Ubuntu about 6 months ago has made it noticeably more difficult to use the free wifi at my school. When I had Windows 7 on the same laptop, it was much easier to establish and maintain a connection. I know it's not the hardware. My question is: is there some security setting that makes it difficult to use public wifi on Ubuntu? Also, I don't have this problem at home on my WPA2 home wifi network.

I just installed Debian with the latest testing iso, and I'm having problems connecting to the web via browser. I can ping hostnames (i.e. google.com, debian.org, etc.) from the terminal and it resolves just fine, but if I try to load a page from Iceweasel or Epiphany it says the page won't load because it can't resolve the hostname. Can someone tell me what I'm missing?the detail that I'm running amd64. I've checked iptables and found no entries, and for good measure I flushed it to be certain. I also checked resolv.conf but that looked normal, just a nameserver entry pointing to my home router. I'm new to Debian, but have used Linux for years, and I'm genuinely stumped. I'm sure the solution will smack me in the head for its simplicity, but nonetheless I need at least a shove in the right direction.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've recently salvaged a computer I found gathering dust in the basement and decided I'll have it running on Fedora (I have a summer studentship coming up that needs Linux use so I thought I'd best start learning!). Following a clean install, Fedora can see the wireless network just fine. I try to connect and nothing happens. Half of the time it will ask for the PSK (yes, I promise I'm entering it correctly) and the other half of the time it will just stop. When it does ask for the PSK I enter it (correctly) and it will ask me again... and again.

This may be more suited for the networking forums, but I figured Community Cafe would be well rounded enough for someone to tell me if this is even possible (with minimal configuration that is).There are a few places I travel where I only have a wired connection to the Internet (no wifi), but when this happens is there a simple way to create an adhoc network so wireless devices can route through my computer and to the network? Reason I'm asking is I'm thinking of getting an iPad or iPod Touch which have wireless connections, but in the cases where my laptop is using a wired ethernet connection and the wireless card isn't used, I'd like to create an adhoc wireless network that'll let such wireless devices work.

I hooked up to a wired connection and ubuntu installed the drivers for the broadcom card.When I put the cursor over the wireless icon on the desktop it shows the name of my wireless connection,active,and my ip address but when I open firefox I get a "server not found". I have tried put my routers IP in /etc/resolve.conf but to no avail. I also tried putting 8.8.8.8.

View 5 Replies View Relatedjust installed Ubuntu Netbook remix on my acer aspire one, and come across a problem Ive never faced before. Im able to Connect to my router (and access it through the internal ip address) but as soon as i try access anything outside of my network there is nothing!
This i found odd as first i thought it might have just been my Routers problem, but seeing as all my other computers were connected to it with no problems (wired and wireless) I quickly traced the problem back to the laptop.
After this i decided to see if after a simple update would fix the problem. so i connected it up through the Ethernet port once again it connects to the router but no internet! I have tried everything in my knowledge, but with no success!
Often i have an active connection on the tree network with an internet dongle according networkmanager, but ping is not working and firefox and thunderbird also don't have a connection. Skype however is working at that time. (testcall to skype is working) My present solution is to disconnect and connect a couple of times again until i can ping a commonserver on the internet, and then everything is working normal. Many are stating networkmanager is buggy, is this a known bug and is it worked on or do i need to install another program. Has any of you an idea what could be going on and how to solve it, permanently. In the way it's automatically right when connecting.
My dongle is of type: Huawei E 1550 and often i have a normal connection.
I can connect my wlan card to router (gateway) ,but I can't go to internet, pinging my router (and everything else) also falied. Same problem was with knoppix but with help of others i solved it modifing etc/reslove.conf IP address to my gateway (nameserver). At ubuntu resolve.conf seems ok, as there is already IP address of my gateway?
