i have a problem with my new router and ubuntu 10.10. The problem is that my internet connection show me that my laptop had connect to internet but my browser can't open a website ( this problem is the same with my netbook ) to fix it always must turn it off and after on either it never makes.

I'm using D-Link GLB-802C router to connect to internet, It has one Ethernet port and USB port. I want to connect to internet in ubuntu using USB port. My PC is P4 machine and it isn't a Ethernet interface. My router's driver CD includes usb drivers to windows 98, xp OS only. I want step by step guide to setup the internet connection in ubuntu. I'm from sri lanka and i using SLT ADSL connection.

I found out it was because it cant find my Voip router if I disconnect the voip router they work fine. I am using NetCom V300 telephone router yet PCLinuxos 2009 has no problem with this issue. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a desktop PC running Ubuntu 9.10 and Windows 7, and a Eee PC 701 laptop running EasyPeasy Ubuntu 9.04. I'd like to connect the desktop to the laptop with a wired connection (eth0), then the laptop to my ADSL router using wireless (ath0).
I have a crossover ethernet cable (I bought on ebay). I have set up my laptop with a static IP address on my LAN and it uses OpenDNS.
I have added this to /etc/sysctl.conf on the laptop:
net.ipv4.ip_forward=1
Then I tried this on the laptop:
sudo iptables --table nat --append POSTROUTING --out-interface ath0 -j MASQUERADE
sudo iptables --append FORWARD --in-interface eth0 -j ACCEPT
This is a variation on what I found on other sites describing how to set up a router. I don't understand iptables very well, but I gather that the above two lines should set up forwarding so that traffic from my router to the laptop will be forwarded to the desktop, and vice versa.
But this doesn't work. The connection doesn't even establish between the laptop and the desktop.
I need to connect to my router using only CLI, specifying an username and password, preferably with a single command line, so it won't be interactive, 'cause I need to include the command in a script.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have sendmail running on my centOS 4.6. My lamp server also runs on it. I want to send mail through php mail function. when i execute php page, which fires the mail function, it takes so much long tim1 say even 1 minute, and at last displays that message sent successfully. Suppose, destination address is [URL].... I did not get any mail there. My server is running in LAN. I checked the status of sendmail, it shows me that it ios running. when i issue "nmap localhost" it shows me that SMTP port 25 is open, but when i issue "nmap myserver" (192.168.1.20 myserver ( written in hostfile)), it does not show that SMTP port is open.
I checked the /var/log/maillog, one person in my previous post advice me to see that. There it shows that message is accepted for delivery...but i do not get any mail in my destination, even not in spam folder. One more confusion is that, in my case my server is in LAN and if I am at all enable to open the SMTP port on it, does i need to open SMTP port on my router (which connects my LAN to internet) also needs to open? I think no, because SMTP is application layer protocol, it will wrap my mail in IP packet, which router just need to forward. am i right?
I am trying to setup a dhcp server for my internal network. I have two NICs, a modem, and a wireless router. I have my server connected directly to my modem which is providing me with Internet access on eth1 and is working fine. I have dhcp and dns setup on eth0 which is connected to my router. The router shows that it is connected to the Internet but when the router gives a client computer an IP address, the client is unable to connect to the Internet but can connect to the router. They connect to the router with no problems.
I installed Ubuntu on a Sharp Moebius laptop and plugged in the network cable.
NOTHING.
I have tried pinging the laptop; nothing.
I am not sure where the problem is, because my Thinkpads have no problems connecting to the router, with both Ubuntu and XP

When I try to connect, It it says "limited connectivity" and does not let her utilize the internet. My brother is dual booting ubuntu karmic and winXP and is able to connect on both os's. I am absolutely sure I am entering the correct pass-phrase and ssid.

When I try going to Free Internet Radio - SHOUTcast Radio - Thousands of Free Online Radio Stations I get an error message that it is unable to connect. I tried it with Firefox 3.6.11 and Opera 10.06 and neither one will make a connection to Shoutcast web page.
I don't have it blocked with iptables and I don't think the Ad Block plug-in is a factor as Opera won't connect either. But if I try it with IE in XP running in VirtualBox on the same Ubuntu system it will connect to the web page! Is it something with my Ubuntu system or is Shoutcast blocking access to Linux users?

View 14 Replies View RelatedSince I have 3 Network cards in my Desktop PC I've configured it to act as a Router using GNU/Linux Ubuntu Lucid in combination with Samba so I could share my internet connection. It works on any laptop a connect to it using any of the network cards ports [regardless of the operating system installed on the Laptops], but when I plug that same network cable to any Desktop PC [regardless of the operating System installed] it doesn't even light the LED in the netcards. From the Client PC seems like nothing is plugged in the the netcards.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've just spent the entire night trying to get my computer to share Internet with my laptop. I have DSL Internet with the modem configured to bridge mode. On the openSUSE server I have two NIC's. When setting up the DSL (pppoe) it created a dsl0 which is using the NIC eth0. So now I have dsl0, eth0, and eth1 I configured eth1 for DHCP server. When I connect with my laptop using DHCP it gets an IP address just fine. However I can't access the Internet. I think my problem is in the Kernel IP Routing Table. dsl0 obtains IP from ISP eth0 is set to DHCP although that confuses me because how can the same NIC have two IP Addresses? eth1 static IP 10.30.60.1
I am trying to get my Linksys wireless adapter (WUSB11 V2.6) to work under kubuntu /ubuntu.
I am still not able to connect. I believe that I am overlooking or not understanding something.
This is a walk-through of steps I have taken. I can post log files or command outputs as needed.
lsusb shows my adapter, I checked at one point and saw the log file said it needed the firmware from at76c503a.berlios.de so I downloaded the at76_usb-firmware.tar.gz file and copied the at76c503-rmfd.bin file to /lib/firmware and ran chmod 755/ chown root:root as the instructions said.
I then ran rmmod -f at76c50x_usb followed by at76c50x_usb. iwconfig now shows my linksys adapter as wlan1. I use ifconfig to bring the interface up and then set the essid (not hidden) with iwconfig. I then use dhclient to try and get a dhcp address, but no luck.
I have tried setting the wireless mode to managed and setting the ap with the cell address of my wireless router. Still no luck. I continue to the get dhcp no offers report.
I have read that I need to shutdown network-manager if configuring by hand. I did this with service network-manager stop. it doesn't seem to get an address either after this.
Checking the output of messages, kern.log and syslog I get wlan1: link not ready and if I set the ap by hand. I get that it can not associate
Here are some other things that I have noticed and wonder if it is a problem:
lshw shows my wlan1 interface, it shows a loaded driver but gives firmware = N/A (this is after copying the firmware file to /lib/firmware) (log files seem to indicate firmware version)
After setting the ap manually with iwconfig, iwconfig output still shows that the access point is not associated. I am not sure if it is supposed to show the cell address after manually setting it or only if it is connected to the router.
I am running kubuntu 10.10 and I am trying to connect to an open router.

- CANNOT get internet connections - including router at 192.168.0.1

- to set proxy settings as "Direct internet connection"
- disconnecting power to (including 30 sec wait): modem, router, computer + unplugging ethernet from computer
- Live CD (he only had an old one 7.10) which also didn't connect to internet, but as I am remote, I couldn't do any more. We are downloading a 10.04.1 iso for him to burn tomorrow, and will try that again.
- Uninstalled Crashplan which was the last software that we installed (and it was working ok).
I am currently ssh'ing into another computer on the network that IS working, and then ssh'ing into my Dad's computer - including a VNC session (tunneled through both machines and router).
i recently connected this router to mahh modem..http:[url]....before router connection i was able to connect to internet via "pppoeconf command" but now i am not able to connect to internet from ubuntu ..i am still using lan cable coming out or router to connect it with pc..

The reason being is that my router is assigning internal ip's and dyndns is linked to that. I need port 80 for the Apache server, but if I have the router forward that port to my particular ip, won't it screw with everyone else's internet too?
View 5 Replies View Relatedinstalled openSUSE 11.3 and round that both wireless and ethernet connections could connect ok to my router but couldnt access the internet. I think its a bug because I didn't have this issue in previous versions of openSUSE.
The solution is to go into the ip settings in the wireless configuration, select the option to manually assign ddresses (not DCHP) and
- enter the ip address of your router in the default gateway and DNS server addresses
- manually assign an ip address to your computer rather than have the router do it
- it has to be in the same range as your router -n normally 192.168.1.x where x can be any number not already used.
I connect my internet using pppoe to may DSL modem with bridging mode, and it goes fine until I try to put a wireless router between my PC and the modem. After I configure both modem and the router, I can run my wireless network fine by connecting it from a laptop, but my PC is unable to reach the modem at this configuration.
PC has address 192.168.2.100
Router has address 192.168.2.2
Modem has address 192.168.2.1
all with netmask 255.255.255.0
With bridging configuration in modem and automatic detect configuration in the wireless router, the wireless network run well, except the PC cannot ping the Modem saying that

Looks like my PC, which has Slackware 13.0, don't know how to reach the modem even they are physically connected.
1. how can I configure the modem, PC, and router so that the PC can reach the router? Do I need to do add route gateway from the PC?

Useing gnome network manger. I thught that is DNS resolve problem, and wrote in linksys router the same DNS as 3g huaweii modem use. Steel the some result. NO INTERNET. Change for static ip in router and try use the same gatway , but steell can't use connected at the same time to internet with 3g and local router.
Only one devace at the same time, Router have no any acces to internat. SO why 3g internet stoping working after connecting router to LAN ports? Has it some thing to do with subnet or ip range and routing table?
