Debian :: OpenVPN And Loose The Basic Internet Connection In The Browser
Sep 6, 2011
I have succesflly installed OpenVPN server and clients(followed tuts). Everything is great, however when I have openvpn connection established on the clients I loose the basic internet connection in the browser, but my clients can see the vpn server(even I can ssh to the server via the openvpn client ip). I am guessing that all the traffic is routed through the server. I am just not knowledgable enough with routing , iptables and internet sharing. I am using tun based setup on OpenVPN. I am just not even sure if this is a server or a client issue, sorry for ignorance and illeteracy.

When I make a vpn connection to an openvpn server, I loose the internet connection.
The VPN works all right.
Server config (extract)
Client config
Client route without the VPN connection
client route with VPN connected (internet lost)
Is there anything I can do to the push rule of the servers's config file?

The router IP is 192.168.1.1. 1 windows laptop that work wireless and wired. 1 debian desktop that work wired and not working wireless. THe problem with the debian desktop is like this: I have a TP-Link TL-WN321G installed and found by lsusb command. I make a wireless connection WPA Personal (just like the router settings) it says i am connected to the wl network but no internet connection. the route command give me this:

I tryed with wicd who said that the connection is WEP (and it's not, it is setup to WPA on the router and the network-manager conncetion) and when i try to connect i get bad password. I tryed with network-manager uninstalled and no chance.

I am needing help with two things:
Does anyone have sample 'c' code for a browser basic function, get an address and display the contents? Want to learn bout how it's done.
Second, can anyone point me to the source for "webcam", a webcam capture program? I spent a day on the internet trying to find a home page or source listing.
Sorry if these are "dumbassed" questions, but I am new back to Linux. Been out of the Unix world since 1989.

I just installed a dual boot XP/Debian 5.0.4 setup on my Dell 5100 laptop. I now have constant problems with "resolving host" when using Debian. The connection when using a browser or downloading is noticeably slower than when using Windows or my Ubuntu install on my desktop. Also, whenever using the Debian install on my laptop, both it and my desktop, which both connect through the same Linksys router, constantly show "resolving host" (Chrome browser) until it just timeouts. Rebooting the DSL modem sometimes fixes it for a while (although it's still slow even then), but it eventually happens again. Turn off the laptop/switch to the XP OS on it, and the problems disappear on both the laptop and desktop. Is this a known problem for Debian 5.0.4?

I have a computer with both wire and wireless connections. Wired connection works fine, but I would also setup the wireless connection.(I also have a dual boot on this cumputer with WinXP where both wire and wireless connections works fine. So, wire and wireless configuration of the actual router is not an issue here.)
At this point I just want to know the main/overview basic steps of setting-up the wireless connection on the computer. Also if you could suggest any links to guidelines for these steps. I have been thinking about something simple like this, but I might have missed a lotInvestigate if Ubuntu finds the wifi-hardware - the installed wifi card.Investigate if Ubuntu have an installed driver for this wifi-card.Configure the Wireless Network connection, like SSID.Unplug wire connection and reboot.

I am working on a cross-platform application for Linux ,Apple and Windows, so I have a full tower system with four SATA hard drives that be selected with a switch, so that I can change drives and operating systems at will. -sort of makes me a jack of linux systems, but master of none. It's important to mention this, because it shows the strangeness of the problem as it is isolated to Debian* systems.
So where does debian/ubuntu get it's information to establish a network connection? How do I rectify the problem? I can hardly blame the hardware (RTL8111B), because the problem is isolated to Debian systems.

I have been using this fresh Debian 8.2 install for 3 days without any network problems.
What I did this morning :
- Booted in my windows partition and rebooted immediately just to remove the system from the sleep state
- Mounted a NTFS hard drive and copied some file to my .wine drive_c
Thats when I noticed that my connection was down.
I verified all the physical layer. My laptop has access to the internet tried to connect on an another router with eht0, changed the wire, nothing worked.
It seems like the interface can't get a dhcp ipv4 address even when I try to force is with dhclient, I get no offer when my laptop works just fine.
- Booted on my windows partition without changing any connection and my internet was working.
- Booted back on debian still not working...

When launching any program (iceweasel, ssh, dropbox) that requires internet connection as a normal user it does not connect.

I recently installed Debian "Squeeze" onto a Thinkpad T420, alongside Windows 7. During the installation Debian was unable to detect my NIC (Intel 82579LM), but otherwise the installation completed normally. I've installed the required e1000e drivers, and added "alias eth0 e1000e" to the modules file. Using lspci I can see that the computer detects the card, but still fails to load the drivers for it.
I'm at a bit of a loss, as this is my first time using Linux. After a bit of searching it looks like the 2.6.38 kernel resolves the issue with this card, so I guess that's my next step.Unfortunately all the installation instructions I've found assume an internet connection. Is there a simple way to update the kernel without a connection, or -even better- an install disc with 2.6.38 so I can start from scratch?

I rebooted my vServer (Debian 8) and it doesn't came back up. Well, I used the rescue console on my server and the server seems to be running fine, except the network was broken. So I tried 'ifconfig' but nothing came up. So I tried to enable my interface with 'ifconfig venet0 up', and now it appears in my ifconfig list
Code: Select allroot@i67svof:/var/www# ifconfig
venet0 Link encap:UNSPEC HWaddr 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00

TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0

RX bytes:36463 (35.6 KiB) TX bytes:0 (0.0 B)
My HWaddr doesn't look that well :) 'ip addr' prints this result:
Code: Select allroot@i67svof:/var/www# ip addr

2: venet0: <BROADCAST,POINTOPOINT,NOARP,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN
These are the last lines in /var/log/syslog:
Code: Select allroot@i67svof:/var/www# tail /var/log/syslog

I have freshly installed OpenSUSE 11.3 64 bit and reimported my old openvpn connections via Network Manager. Connection can be established fine, but after 3 to 6 seconds (pings) it will stop to receive any packets on the tun device.
I tried disabling the firewall, starting openvpn manually, no avail. I checked the message log and the openvpn output, no messages recorded.

Okay well when i try to add openvpn to network manager i select the openvpn option and it ask for the required fields.
For gateway i am using -> 10.0.0.0
ALL other options i am just using the defaults...

Now when i try to start New VPN Connection from network manager it fails to connect and here is what i am getting from /var/log/messages
