On one machine is upgraded from F7 to F10: no problems. On my second machine, I did a fresh install. I can connect to the internet via KPPP, but both Firefox & Konqueror fail to recognize that I'm online. I tried to create a network modem connection, but when I select "new" & "modem", then press the "forward" button, nothing happens.
View 5 RepliesI just installed fedora on a customers laptop of mine and just trying to get everything working. I hooked up a wireless PCMCIA linksys card and got connected to my wireless and went through the first 250+ updates, all that went fine, so I know I am getting internet access. Everytime I open firefox though I cannot connect to any websites, like I said I am a noob so my troubleshooting skills are very limited with linux, anything I can try etc.

The IVP6 setting is ignored in the Network Configuration. I have triggered it both ways.
As for the firewall configuration, well it freezes at the splash screen when invoked.
Fedora 12 is the first spin, since Fedora 9, that I was able to get any updates. Versions 10 and 11 could not access the internet with anything, no matter what was attempted.
BTW, I am using Mandriva 2010 to get through here.
I use Transmission to download torrents off the internet. The problem is whenever I start the download, I cannot access the internet via my web browsers, Chrome AND Firefox. Altho, I can use Pidgin or Empathy to communicate. Why should I do ? I am assuming it is causing some sorta congestion .. I tried giving the downloads "low" priority, applying temporary speed limits but it doesn't help.

I found out it was because it cant find my Voip router if I disconnect the voip router they work fine. I am using NetCom V300 telephone router yet PCLinuxos 2009 has no problem with this issue. I have to use my Voip and also want to use the other 99% linux distros.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Fedora 11 on Sony Vaio laptop and I cannot connect to the internet. I used many different kind of browsers and no luck. I am using wireless it is Broadcom 2200 card and i can tell the driver is installed correctly and it says I am connected to the wireless fine. Strange thing is that when i use software update it downloads them fine which means the internet is there. But I cannot goto any webpage with my browser. I run ifconfig and i can even ping websites without problem. I checked my firewall to see if its blocking my port 80 but it was not blocking.

Ethernet works fine though but when I unplug the cable and try to mess with the settings, I still can't connect. View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to set a kickstart DVD for automatically installing Fedora 10 without touching the existing data partitions on our systems. I've got a kickstart file that works great from a kickstart server however I'm having issues with creating an unattended kickstart DVD. I've attached a copy of the kickstart file from the DVD. For some reason even though all the packages we are installing are on the DVD, anaconda always attempts to connected to the internet to get repository information after completing the partitioning. I have changed the install type to 'cdrom' before anyone asks! I have removed my %pre and %post sections as these just copy in some config files and do not touch anything other than local paths.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI work for AT&T and our Windows-centric workgroup is being tasked with supporting an app running on RedHat. To help my coworkers, I'm building a Fedora 11 VM that we can play with to familiarize ourselves with the UNIX environment.
Because of corporate network policies in place, my VM can't get access to the Internet.
Since we're AT&T employees, we're naturally using the korn shell on the production system. I'd like to install the korn shell on my VM. However, it doesn't appear to be part of the base fedora repository.
Is the korn shell available for Fedora? If so, how would I copy it to shiny media, mount it on my VM, and install it?
I am quite new in Linux and start trying by using Fedora. I installed Fedora 10 on an old PC. I installed once and Fedora 10 recognized my wireless USB finger. Well after some setting but I cannot recall teh exact details. Due to certain reasons, I have to re-install Fedora 10. However, this time the wireless device is not working (The system recognized it and the driver is working ok but not able to connect to the access point and I caanot find a place to check the available wireless network list. I used WEP password protection so need to see the network list and select the network for prompt of the password entry.)

I have started a newly started a VPN-service with some friends and are offering both OpenVPN and PPTP-vpn.The OpenVPN works perfectly, but we have some problem with the PPTP.It is possible to connect to the VPN, but once connected you can't get any type of access to the outside world ( the interner ).I've googled (Ok, not I, but the tech-guy has) and havn't found any solution so therefor we try here.We are running Debian 5.0 on a XEN VPS.On the machines we've tested OpenVPN works like a charm.
View 12 Replies View RelatedRecently i started going into OSes other than Windows. So, i installed openSUSE 11.3 32bit on my system in dual boot with Windows7 32bit. Everything was okay But i couldn't find any drivers for my laptop. My problems are :
1. cannot access NTFS drives.
2. cannot connect to the internet through LAN
3. cannot connect to the internet through Wireless.

Intel Corei3 processor
Both the operating systems run fine otherwise
At work, we (like almost everyone) are still full-on windows. I am currently trying to get away from windows because I am not a fan. my current windows machine (different from my Ubuntu machine) is accessing the wireless network fine, and there are no obvious problems there. Also, my Ubuntu machine can access my wireless network at home, so I know there are no driver issues. I set up the connection for the Ubuntu machine, and it seems to be connecting OK. I can ping internal IPs and by all statuses, the connection to the router is functioning. However, when I attempt to load a web page or ping a domain or external IP, it fails. I tried to ping the IP, thinking if that worked, it's probably the DNS, but pinging both domains or IPs fails. I have looked around at forums and posts, but none of them seem to match my issue (that's probably not true, but I am struggling to see the commonality).

I have had a heck of a time trying to get my laptop running ubuntu to connect to my home network. I have managed to get it to work at my university which would seemingly be more difficult than getting it to work at home, so I know for a fact it isn't a hardware or driver issue. If I try to connect via ethernet cable from my router, it detects that I connected the cable but says "disconnected" and never lets me connect. If I SKIP the router and go from my modem directly to my laptop via ethernet cable it works great.
Using the wireless network tool I can see all of the wireless connections in my area. When I go to connect to my network it prompts me for the WEP key and when I enter it and hit connect it just keeps cycling and eventually times out and finally again prompts me for my WEP key. I know this network works as it works just fine on my Windows 7 partition. Another interesting note - both my wireless and ethernet connections both worked flawlessly and stoopid easily on the live cd but don't after the full install.
If I manually enter in the information for my wireless through IPv4 settings and enter in the Address,Netmask and gateway I can connect to my network - but then I have no active internet connection. Same deal with my wired connection. Is this because choosing this manual method grays out the DHCP?
Recently I had installed Ubuntu 10.04 in which I had connected to the internet by way of terminal (pppoeconf) and I could access any site with ease.But one fine day suddenly I could not access the net, I try to locate the notification icon (network manager),but could not find it.I did this and that,googled it trying to find the solution but alas to my disappointment I had to format it.
After reinstallation of Ubuntu I connect the internet by way of editing connection on panel and i could access the net. The problem is that I could not access some site especially org site e.g Home - Desiring God so can anybody guide me in how to connect in most better way.

I have Dlink Wireless G Access Point.
I can connect to my access point to surf internet. I setup my Dlink access point (password, network name, etc) in Vista by visiting "http://dlinkap/" in my web browser.
In ubuntu, I can connect and surf the web/internet but i cannot access the setup page.
When I try to type the "http://dlinkap/" to my browser then the browser will redirect it to google search.
I try 192.168.1.1, I can access my linksys router. but my dlink access point, i cannot access the setup page.
I have a server at home running as a file server and DHCP connected to a switch with a wireless AP in there as-well. with this setup I can access the files and do some configurations via SSH on the actual server anytime I'm able to get the wireless signal, now lately I felt the need to be able to do the same but this time over the internet. I've read somewhere already that I'm gonna need a router with port forwarding and NAT, then know the IP address of the server but my problem is once you start talking about routers then you need broadband connection which is something I don't have. Getting a router is not much of a problem but without ADSL like connection I guess its useless, what do I need to do?

I recently installed fedora and had to troubleshoot most problems with the drivers myself, before installing the system I searched for all the drivers in my computer so I could do it easily. After getting everything working in proper conditions, IE, wireless, and sound worked wonderfully, I was able to hear, and connect to aMSN and my wireless network. I didn't notice any problems until I actually started firefox to browse the web.
It couldn't connect to a host, or resolve it. It wouldn't work when it was wired, and wouldn't work wireless. I reinstalled it to see if it would work without me messing with anything and just connecting through ethernet, and still it didn't work, same problem. I wouldn't ask if I could find a site that had the same problem but I've been searching for about 2 hours. I'd like to use Fedora asap, and get rid of Ubuntu.
Just today I installed opensuse 11.3 on my Compaq CQ61. Even though I am able to connect to networks (both with an ethernet cable and wireless) I don't have internet access. I have used opensuse for a very brief period in the past and I had no such problem.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have 2 pcs at home. I dont have a switch so I can connect only one PC at a time to my adsl router/modem for internet access. In the past I had successfully connected the two PCs (NIC to NIC) to each other using the same ethernet cable which was supplied with my dlink adsl modem.
Recently the motherboard of on of my PC went bad so I replaced it with a new one. The problem is when I connect the two using the same Ethernet cable they won't connect. The lights on the Ethernet port won't light up. I can still connect both of them to the adsl router (NIC to Router) (one at a time).
I have been trying to set up phpmyadmin for a while now, but I just cant seem to access it with the browser.
I yum installed phpmyadmin. In my /etc/httpd/conf.d/phpMyAdmin.conf I have:
When I visit [ip]/phpmyadmin I just get a 404
I've reloaded apache, checked the phpmyadmin config file, and everything seems fine, I just get constant 404.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a linux box (fedora) with two ethernet cards eth1 and eth2. On eth1 I successfully configured a PPPOE internet connection. Such that from the server I can browse the internet. On eth2 I wired it to a wireless router essentially to provide the wireless cloud. On eth2 I also configured dhcp, such that the Linux box is both PPPOE and DHCP server.However my clients on the LAN cannot access the Internet.
On passing the routing command I get

The router (functioning as a wireless access point mainly) has a fixed IP address of 192.168.1.2 and eth2 has IP address 192.168.1.1. I cannot figure out how to correctly set the routing table such that my clients on wireless can access the internet cloud. I googled and googled but no solid solution. Any suggestions?
