Ubuntu :: No Internet Access On Browser While Torrent Download
Dec 18, 2010
I use Transmission to download torrents off the internet. The problem is whenever I start the download, I cannot access the internet via my web browsers, Chrome AND Firefox. Altho, I can use Pidgin or Empathy to communicate. Why should I do ? I am assuming it is causing some sorta congestion .. I tried giving the downloads "low" priority, applying temporary speed limits but it doesn't help.
Everytime I use Transmission for torrent download, even if I only have a single torrent, my firefox is unable to access the internet. I assume this cannot be a bandwidth problem, so what is it.
I use deluge and it worked for a while then randomly I got this error message when trying to download a .torrent file:"/tmp/Manchester_Orchestra___I_m_Like_A_Virgin_Losing_A_ ___-1.torrent could not be opened, because an unknown error occurred.Try saving to disk first and then opening the file."
My family have three Linux operated ACER ONE netbooks, all of them need the new Firefox 3.6 download as the old format wont be supported supposedly by ..... etc. I have downloaded the SOFTWARE but cant get it to run, the Firefox explanation mentions lots of files etc that are cant access, nor can I excecute any files once they have been extracted. The same happens with any software but Iv ignored it till now, not having a "modern" browser will make things difficult. I need it explaining simply. On another subject can anyone use facebook chat on Linux
I just installed fedora on a customers laptop of mine and just trying to get everything working. I hooked up a wireless PCMCIA linksys card and got connected to my wireless and went through the first 250+ updates, all that went fine, so I know I am getting internet access. Everytime I open firefox though I cannot connect to any websites, like I said I am a noob so my troubleshooting skills are very limited with linux, anything I can try etc.
On one machine is upgraded from F7 to F10: no problems. On my second machine, I did a fresh install. I can connect to the internet via KPPP, but both Firefox & Konqueror fail to recognize that I'm online. I tried to create a network modem connection, but when I select "new" & "modem", then press the "forward" button, nothing happens.
Web Browsers and email clients unable to access the Internet. Able to get software and updates with no problem.
The IVP6 setting is ignored in the Network Configuration. I have triggered it both ways. As for the firewall configuration, well it freezes at the splash screen when invoked.
Fedora 12 is the first spin, since Fedora 9, that I was able to get any updates. Versions 10 and 11 could not access the internet with anything, no matter what was attempted.
BTW, I am using Mandriva 2010 to get through here.
I have an acer aspire one notebook (I gather firefox 2 is interwoven on the system?). Anyway, keep pressing firefox icon and it churns over put nothing happens. I found the following advice on another site: (Sorry this is so long, but I wanted to give you as much info for you to help me)
Press Alt+F2 to show the Run program window. Check Run in terminal, leave the input field blank, and click Run to open a terminal. If you're not familiar with the Linux command line just follow the instructions step by step. The easiest way is to simply paste the commands into the terminal with Ctrl+Shift+V. Most of them will only give feedback if an error occurs.
The first command uses wget to download Firefox 3.6 from an official mirror. You can edit the lang variable at the end, in this case en-US, if you'd like another language. All available languages are listed here, just hover over the download link to get the language code from the status bar.
wget -N [url]
The next step extracts the just downloaded file and modifies a link to point to it. In a few cases a connection refused error message may be triggered by sudo, which is not an error but a bug in sudo and can be safely ignored.
The next step links all plug-ins (not to be confused with extensions) to it.
Launch the profile manager using the command below. Create a new profile, name it anything you like and select it. If you want to keep your bookmarks export them via the bookmark manager first. You can then delete the old default profile.
firefox -profilemanager -no-remote
As a bonus you can also change the icon to the official Firefox icon.
Finally reboot the AA1 to make the desktop aware of the new icon and browser location.
However when I try the above I get the following responses at each point:
I do now have a new icon on the desktop! but still no internet.
i have VPS server and i installed Xserver on it and all ok i created new user for my client but i need to limit his access to the following
he can download and upload to his home file " browser by Firefox" he can't install or use any application "just the one i installed it" he can't see the file system or browser it !! if i can give him specific space on harddisk would be better he can extract and compress files he can't edit the settings ....
i have another sensitive folder and setting i don't want him to see it so how to limit his access?
Just went to download 8.04.4 and to use the torrent. Guess what, the links on the page point to 8.04.3 torrent download which gets you a 404 error. To get by this, go into the address window of your browser and change each 8.04.3 to 8.04.4 and you will get the torrent.
Just thought I would pass this on if anyone was trying to get it via the torrent. If anyone is watching, maybe the links should be updated on the download pages.
I am interested in downloading ubuntu 10.04 on a cd for a friend. I want to use a torrent to get the file so I can seed after the download. When I go to the alternate download page located here: http:[url]....It gives me multiple options on which torrent to download:
I am confused as to which I should download.I know that amd64 is for the amd architecture and i386 is for intel, but what is the difference between alternate and desktop?
Is there any way to tweak the torrent download speeds in ubuntu? i remember doing lots of things in utorrent when i was using windows. Like increasing max half open connections!! is there any equivalent settings for ubuntu? I am using qbittorrent as a torrent client.
I couldn't find an answer myself. So, the problem is that every single bittorrent program I tried downloads files I checked to ignore so I know this is not a program related issue. For example, there are 2 pictures in a torrent, I select only one but in the end I have both downloaded.
i install ubuntu for 2nd time, i use transmission app to download a torrent for my computer, but in this time that program block, and don't let me download waht i want. the program stay grey and not responding.
i want to run init 0 as root after my torrent download completes. i use ktorrent as a downloader and Ubuntu as my OS.how should i make the command run automatically as soon as my download completes.
I cannot use any torrent programs because nothing will download. Every figure will sit at '0' indefinitely...forever! I can boot up my Windows XP install and it will start within a few seconds. I am just trying to figure out what's going on. Another problem is that my LXDE desktop doesn't seem to pick up every application I install. It doesn't go in the menu. I tried Torrent but it didn't go in the menu. I would start it via CLI but I'm not sure what to type. I thought there might be a security issue but that's only speculation.
I know that ports are supposed to be set via the router settings but I'm sharing the router. I might go to a relative's home and try to work on the problem there. I can go in the router there. But, I can have nothing set and just start downloading with default settings in Windows so I thought it can't be a ports problem. Unless? I'm at a loss and have no other theories. Debian and other distros want you to download their OS via torrent so to not even have it work.
I have tried several times to download an audio torrent using bit tornado. It connects to the torrent provider, but times out with the error "url error" "unknown url type" "udp" [URL]. I have also tried with other providers and the result is the same, apart from the tracker name.
how to speed up torrent download with transmission in fedora, i find it very slow, also the speed is only 51 kbps not more than that i get, so how to increase the download speed to 128 kbps. i'm using broadband connection.
i am using squid proxy server in my office but i cant download torrent file from client usnig bittorrent. bitorrent may use port 6881 to 6889. but i dont know how and where to put this port numbers in squid to download torrent files.
I am a relative moron when it comes to using Ubuntu. This is a relatively old machine and I purchased it from a friend. She said Ubuntu was a good choice to maximize space as opposed to XP. I want to find a way (and maybe an example of one) to get a torrent download app on my computer for file sharing. I found one that uses Java, but when I tried to install java it was utter failure.
I have been using u torrent in windows and I am not able to find a similar torrent client in ubuntu 10.10, I was using transmission bittorrent client, but it is not able to look for peers and seeds as utorrent does and even the download speed is very slow when compared to utorrent. Which is the best torrent client as powerful as utorrent?
Maybe some torrent client for Linux can understand the metadata generated by a Windows client. Or maybe there is a Web/Desktop client that works in both systems. Is there any way to do that?I use uTorrent for Windows, and I haven't used any torrent client on my Ubuntu 11.04 yet. But if the solution uses other client for Windows, it will work for me.
i've just moved to ubunt recently and i still dont know many good applications.i'm downloading a lot, when on windows i used free download manager for download manager and download torrent. free download manager has automatic speed adjustment, so when i browsing, the FDM reduce its speed that made my browsing not slow.is there any application for ubuntu which has automatic speed adjustment feature like FDM? at the moment, i'm using gwget as download manager and qbittorrent for download torrent. but these two apps doesn't have automatic speed adjustment.
I have quite fast Internet connection, 100mbit, and I'm able to take advantage of the entire bandwidth that I'm paying for. When I, however, use Transmission as torrent client and download a torrent faster than, 7-8 Mbyte/second, my hard drive is spinning all the time and my desktop becomes sporadically unresponsive, load average gets high and I'm pretty much sure the Transmission-application is the cause to this, somehow. It must be some strange way it cashes stuff...I don't know.
I'm, either way, not experiencing anything like that with any other torrent client in Linux (or Windows for that matter). It's not that I'm tied to Transmission, in fact, I prefer rtorrent and use it anytime I can, it's just that some stupid torrent sites are giving me Transmission as the only client option when I'm using Linux, so I have to stick to it those times. I have quite fast system, Core Duo 3ghz, 4gb ram, 500 gb 7200rpm 16MB cache WD hard drive, etc...so the hardware certainly shouldn't be a problem.
