I'm having a really weird sound problem with my computer, an ASUS running both Windows VII and Kubuntu 10.4
For some reason, no sound seems to come out of any Internet Browser. Other than that, it works fine. So far, I've tried Google Chrome and Konqueror.
Sound from other applications is fine. I have tried removing and reinstalling the flash packages but it did not help. Any ideas on how to trouble shoot this further? I am running 11.04 64bit. It was working fine earlier but something seems to have screwed it up.

View 2 Replies View RelatedCan anybody give me a clue why there is no sound when I watch videos via any player or browser?, I've installed "restricted formats codecs", (well I did it many times for GNOME desktop of 11.3 SUSE and it was ok), now when I've installed KDE and downloaded these codecs, there is no sound in any video media I play. Audio card seems to be working and configured just fine, then it should be codecs, but what else can I install instead?

after few years being limited with my pc configuration (windows OS) I realized that linux or it's distributions is the best invention in 21 century. And finally I am starting use it. openSUSE 11.4 installaition succesful, I updated it and it looks I don;t have any problems, but I got few questions.
1. How install older version of mozilla firefox internet browser here? I can't install some plugins because it's a firefox beta 12 version, for example. I am quake fan, o I like play quake live, but i can't install quake plugin, because my firefox is beta version.
2. Does I got all drivers instantly installed to my mashine? ATI video drivers, sound drivers ect??
3. Are there any How-To guides which can teach me, how I can improve my desktop? gadgets, 3D desktop ect...?
After installing an external sound card, Im having some weird issues. The cards chipset is fully supported by suse, (CM8738) so I dont think thats the problem. Besides, I'm getting sound, but not in some applications. The system's sounds work just fine (login, logout themes) amarok plays without any problems, kaffeine, mplayer they all work flawlessly, in fact I can see the difference in quality between the onboard sound and my new card. However, no web browser is able to play any sound at all, firefox, opera or chrome, nothing,zip. Plus, vlc cant reproduce sound either, nor can smplayer.
I've tried switching channels on and off(muting)in kmixer and in alsamixer, on the console, with no results. I disabled the onboard audio on the bios before installing the new card, however my ati video card has integrated sound, which I cant disable.... I used to get this exact same problem randomly with the onboard sound, but I just had to go to kmixer and turn up the "pcm" channel volume, which was set to 0, and I had sound again on my browser. However this card's pcm channel is at max and turning it up or down affects the whole systems volume, not just the browser's. Is it better to just reinstall the sound system, if so how could I do that.
Few days ago i installed ubuntu 11.04 on my PC everything is fine but no sound at all, I am going to ..... and playing a video, a video started playing but no sound, i have just installed ubuntu restriced extras bun not working.. i really need sound..
i can't browse on internet without sound..
All of a sudden I no longer have any sound on anything streaming over the Internet. Nothing wrong with the sound system because I can still play music. Just Internet sound.
View 5 Replies View RelatedAlright, I've looked through a many variety of forums to search for the answer to this problem and haven't found it yet. What is happening is during use of my internet browser, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, on Ubuntu 9.10 there are points in time, could be 10 minutes could be 3 hours, that the interface locks up. The mouse is the only peripheral that works, but nothing happens when clicking and the keyboard is locked as well.
Now I'm new to Ubuntu but not computers, I can work my way around Microsoft Windows and just recently took the jump to Linux and have been working myself in slowly. The problem I'm having seems to occur when using Java oriented websites, yet I can't figure out what the problem is, I've tried installing and re-installing java to no avail. My mind is boggled as to the cause of the problem, but I'm open knowing that there is a lot more to go in the troubleshooting than I'm normally use to.

a week ago, i updated my computer from ubuntu 8.04 to 10.04, and since then, no sound plays from any browsers (i've tried firefox, which has been my main browser for years, and epiphany web browser, which seems to be the linux equivalent to internet explorer). i'm still able to play videos videos, but i get no sound from them. however, mp3's, skype, and audacity all work just fine; i just can't get any sound from my browser.

In Firefox, find that after it has run for a while, a couple of hours or so, the audio dies watching ..... or ted.com videos, etc. If I exit ff and start it up again, the sound is fine again for a while. To restore it, I only need to exit and restart the browser, not the whole machine. I have tried using google chrome instead but it does the same thing. Any suggestions?

1. Ethernet cable internet
2. USB 3g modem/.
When I execute the first browser it uses only the cable internet and the second one uses the USB modem.
I use Transmission to download torrents off the internet. The problem is whenever I start the download, I cannot access the internet via my web browsers, Chrome AND Firefox. Altho, I can use Pidgin or Empathy to communicate. Why should I do ? I am assuming it is causing some sorta congestion .. I tried giving the downloads "low" priority, applying temporary speed limits but it doesn't help.

There is a network proxy and I did apply the network proxy setting system wide.
Applications like Dropbox, Messenger etc stopped connecting to internet which were working very well until yesterday.
Firefox seems to be the default browser for all distros,other than it, what other browsers do you prefer?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSince the last firefox update I got no sound in flash on both my Acer Aspire 3614WLMi (Ubuntu 10.04) and my Asus Eee 900 (were I'm currently testing Jolicloud 1.0). I have tried to uninstall everything flash on both of them and then downloading flash from Adobe and reinstalling. This helps after a reboot, but then after closing Firefox I got the same problem when I restart it. I have also tried the fixes on this site with no result: [URL]
View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter I've setup the ubuntu 9.10 I've found that the internet connection working incorrectly. I can ping or even connect to the internet sites with the telnet and see the raw html pages, but when I ran the software center or mozilla I have timeout error message. As a proxy settings I've setup the direct connection in both system and mozilla proxy configurations but it takes no reason. If I put the IP address instead of the domain name in the address bar of the mozilla browser then its loaded the web page correctly. It looks like this problem is relative to some system configuration of X about network (cause telnet google.com 80 working right). I'm using the dhcp connection to the D-Link DSL-504T router.

I hooked up a wireless PCMCIA linksys card and got connected to my wireless and went through the first 250+ updates, all that went fine, so I know I am getting internet access. Everytime I open firefox though I cannot connect to any websites, like I said I am a noob so my troubleshooting skills are very limited with linux, anything I can try etc.

I found out it was because it cant find my Voip router if I disconnect the voip router they work fine. I am using NetCom V300 telephone router yet PCLinuxos 2009 has no problem with this issue. View 4 Replies View RelatedI have to set up a proxy for my work's network. No computer except the proxy has a direct internet connection. The proxy will NOT be transparent so it authenticates with Active Directory and allows or denies pages. The squid proxy is up, and working accordingly, denying and allowing what's needed to who's needed. BUT! Thunderbird and Outlook didn't work, so in less than 10 minutes I was forced to fall back.
I read googling a lot, and searching a bit here about socks, which seems to be what I need but also that squid is already a socks proxy. Web pages were the concern, it's not needed that other stuff is authenticated, it might as well be transparent for Outlook, Thunderbird and other programs *for example, it's not needed to block a Warcraft III game, though, allowing it explicitly is not the point either* but as of now, none can connect *haven't actually tried Warcraft though, but stuff like Adobe's updater didn't work either and I recall someone mentioned Windows Live messenger didn't either* The Squid Proxy is a CentOS.
i have a problem with my new router and ubuntu 10.10. The problem is that my internet connection show me that my laptop had connect to internet but my browser can't open a website ( this problem is the same with my netbook ) to fix it always must turn it off and after on either it never makes.
