Fedora :: Why Did Installation Automatically Suspend

Aug 18, 2009

I'm running off the most current kernel for Fedora 11 x64 and all packages are upgraded. I didn't hit the suspend button at any time but it went down to disk (black screen, soft yellow power light) and the lid had to be opened again for things to work properly.

Ubuntu :: Laptop Does Not Automatically Suspend When Lid Opened

Oct 25, 2010

This is a new issue since 10.04 (9.10 did it right). I'm on 10.10 netbook right now. What I would like to figure out is how to tell the system to go into suspend when idle even though the lid is open. I don't know if this problem is hardware specific or just a config file edit. Just to get it out of the way, it does suspend correctly when the lid is closed - and I can tell it to suspend when the lid is open, but what I need is for it to suspend when I fall asleep working or forget I left it open without overheating / running out of battery and losing my work. I'm pretty good at doing things on linux, despite the fact that I'm running the netbook remix, so don't be afraid to tell me to open a file in the terminal or whatever.

Hardware :: Stop External Soundcard From Automatically Muting After Suspend?

Jul 18, 2010

I have an external (USB) sound-card attached to my laptop, through which I generally want all of my sound routed. By and large, the device works wonderfully - with one minor (but annoying) quirk: almost every time the computer reawakens from suspend mode with the device plugged in, something in the OS automatically mutes all sound coming from that device. Note that Ubuntu does NOT restore control to my on-board sound chip - so whenever this happens, I'm left with a machine that's basically universally muted, for no good reason. Of course, I can just go into the volume control panel and unmute the external card - but I'm getting a bit tired of having to do this each time I turn on the machine.

Anybody have any ideas as to how I can force Ubuntu to NOT mute the external card?

We want to:

1) Automatically installation through network: just power on the machines, all the machines install Fedora 12 OS into memory automatically.

2) We don't want lots network I/O after the installation finishes (it's better the whole OS is in memory). The installation may done through mounting a ISO through network.

Fedora Installation :: Apache Web Server Does Not Start Automatically Unless Login

Feb 20, 2009

I have a problem with running Apache web server. I think my problem is either I can not get httpd to load automatically or it's being blocked from external unless I'm logged in, don't know which. Or, I'm completely off base. Either way, being logged in solves the problem. Now I just need to fix it. This is a brand new server running latest apache and fedora 10 (all fully patched). Loaded from source to all default (non RPM directories - apache is /usr/local/apache2/... )

I modified the existing /etc/init.d/httpd script and had it point to the /usr/local/apache2 areas.I even did a chkconfig --add httpd and show it is on for run levels 2345.The problem is that when I reboot the server httpd does not load because I can not access the website. However, the minute I login to the server as a user (non-root) it automatically loads httpd and the website works. Then, when I logout, everything is inaccessible again. I even tried to put the commands in the /etc/rc.local script (or wherever it is).Same thing happens.I know this is a simple fix. Just don't know what it is. Is it related to SElinux? However, wouldn't SElinux create access problems regardless of being logged in or not? Once I'm logged in, everything automatically fixes itself (either it's a service load or a rights filter fix).

Remember, everything works perfectly as long as I'm logged in to the server (even as a non-root user). Just the act of logging in makes the web server accessible from to the rest of the world. However, when I logout, the web server is inaccessible.

Fedora Installation :: Boot Prompt Information Read Automatically From Isolinux.cfg Without User Intervention?

Oct 4, 2009

building an install cd or dvd media that will automatically install the Linux software on a client pc. There is no network connectivity so the client can only be loaded with Linux from CD or DVD media. The crux of the matter is that I can not automatically install the Linux software on client WITHOUT typing linux ks=cdrom:/ks.cfg at the boot prompt.

I want to avoid any user prompts and just have the software install with the RPMS that I need for this client pc at the boot prompt. Actually, when the boot prompt commences, I would like the software install to start with no user intervention. I've tried several different methods in isolinux.cfg, but the OS always wants boot prompt for the cdrom. Can the boot prompt information be read automatically from the isolinux.cfg with out user intervention? I'm looking for the same behavior as a LIVE CD that kicks off with no boot prompts after a few seconds. Here's a copy of my isolinux.cfg

default linux
prompt 1
timeout 600
display boot.msg
F1 boot.msg
F2 options.msg
F3 general.msg
F4 param.msg

Ubuntu Installation :: Suspend & Hibernation On 10.10?

Apr 28, 2011

ASUS P5Q Deluxe, Intel Core 2 Duo, GeForce 8800, 4GB RAM, USB keyboard and mouse never had problems with suspend and hibernation in Ubuntu. Until the latest version 10.10. Both before and after installing the proprietary Nvidia drivers, the system enters the sleep and hibernate but I can not wake up properly. Specifically, while it looks as it starts up, but not fires up the X server. Oddly - operate only CTRL + ALT + F1-12. You can switch to the text cosole, see the "incentive" to sign but other keys do not work and nothing can be entered. Not working CTRL + ALT + DEL as well, so you need to turn off the system power.

And the fan neverreturns to the normal resumed, slower speed -- which it normally does after aroper resume.Eventually I have to issue "Ctrl + Alt + Delete" to reboot. So the computeris resumed to some degree (to have been able to accept that sequence), butnot all the way - no video (and who knows what else)Any ideas -- I've searched high and low. Are there new kernel parametersI have to be aware of when I do a "make oldconfig", and go from there?

Fedora :: Nouveau Doesn't Suspend To RAM Properly?

Dec 7, 2009

I just wanted to check, I'm using nouveau on Fedora 12 with the latest updates and each time I wake the machine from suspend, the fan on my XFX 8800GT goes to full speed and stays there. I've read some nouveau stuff and they say that nouveau doesn't control the fan speed, so I think the card is running in a safety mode after wake up where it runs the fan at full speed to be safe. The only suggestion I saw for fan speed and nouveau was to use nvclock to manually adjust the fan but that sounds dangerous to me. I think I'll just go to the closed rpmfusion driver then if this is the case.

Fedora Networking :: Wireless Dead After Suspend
