If I suspend this toshiba satellite, and the battery is or gets low it will wake from suspend to tell me that it will need to suspend due to a critical low battery. Which is pretty dumb. I've experimented with this by plugging and unplugging the ac adapter.

Is there a way to check what caused Ubuntu to wake from suspend mode?

Have tried disabling all BIOS wake events (and WOL).
Have ensured mouse doesn't move.
Need a way to know what caused it to wake. Happens 90% of the time, usually 3 seconds after it suspends.
I have an Intel DG35EC motherboard with on-board NIC. It is an Intel 82566 Gigabit NIC. It is wired, not wireless. I am using an Ubuntu "Live CD". Just out of curiosity (to see if it worked), I "suspended" Ubuntu and it suspended very well, but when I "resumed" Ubuntu the NIC would not connect back to the network. If I actually installed Ubuntu and didn't use a "Live CD" do you think it would behave differently?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've got Karmic installed on an HP 6930p, and with relatively little intervention, all hardware has been supported beautifully. I'm using the ATI driver for graphics. Battery life increased dramatically after an update a couple of months ago. However, occasionally (1 in 8 times maybe), the screen is black when waking from suspend. Disk wakes, etc, but the screen is off. Trying to re-suspend with fn key doesn't work. Ctrl-alt-f key combos don't work. I have to hold the pwr button down.

For some reason, all of the sudden;
-my computer quit waking from suspend
-when my computer reboots (because I had to hold in power switch until it restarted) some of the items on my screen looks wierd for a few minutes, like there are tracers on some items (dock, top of screen, etc)
-when i try to wake my computer from suspend, the screen is a funny gray color with wierd blobby shapes that move around a little bit. And of course, doesn't load GUI or anything like that, just gray screen.
I'm looking to find a way to schedule my computer to wake up at say 7:00am. Every night before I go to bed, I put my computer into suspend so the fan doesn't wake me (old computer). I can't seem to find a task scheduler that allows me to be able to wake the system.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a new clean install of 64bit current slackware on a machine which previously run 12.1 to 13.1. It had suspend to ram working quite reliable before, but now i get black screen (sometimes with nonresponding mouse cursor on it) at every second or third wake-up.
I found out that it is not a complete lockup - full access to kde desktop could be restored by hitting alt+sysrq+s followed by alt+sysrq+l several times. I wonder what is causing this? How to get it to wake up normally at once?
Edit: I've installed latest nvidia drivers (260.19.44) for GeForce 8500GT card - previous version (260.19.21) of drivers exhibited the same behaviour in my current install of slack.
It's been a while now I've been experiencing an annoying issue with F12. The thing is that after the machine resumes from suspend (which is otherwise a perfect procedure), video performance (and sometimes audio, through Rhythmbox) reduces and videos play sluggishly. Rebooting the system fixes the issue.
Is there a solution for this behavior (other than rebooting)? Here are the details of my system: F12 x86_64 on an ATI graphics powered machine (Radeon HD3200) which obviously uses the free drivers mesa-drivers-dri-experimental which, otherwise work perfect on this hardware.
I am having problems with my wuxga 1900x1200 laptop display.The machine is a Dell inspiron 8600 with nvidia chipset.I am running driver 175 from the Karmic repo. My problem is when the machine wakes up after a suspend, the display blooms to bright white.The only way I have found to recover is power off the machine. After a bit of research I suspect it may be the refresh rates in xorg.conf, but lowering the values has not changed anything. Here is what I have currently.

After suspending my computer, the battery icon doesn't work anymore (nothing happens when I put my mouse over it and it doesn't detect wether the computer is plugged in or not). Also, the brightness of the computer doesn't change when I plug/unplug the computer. All of that works fine before i suspend the computer.

Just got Ubuntu 9.10 and I'm liking it a lot, but my computer refuses to go into hibernate or suspend. I have a Dell M1530 but I don't really think it's a dell hardware issue because it's not just when I close the screen, it's also when I click suspend or hibernate from the menu.

pm-suspend - suspends the system, and powering RAM, but devices connected to the laptop stopped charging in suspend state.
My laptop won't resume after it suspends. It works fine under win 7 so it's not the hardware. The light says it's on and it's pretty much a blank screen. I'm not sure whether it's operational but the screen is off. It has exactly the same resault a waiting for the blank screen except it won't go back on.

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx. When I partitioned my HDD, I ran out of available partitions and so couldn't make a Swap Partition.I pushed on anyway, because I read here that you can create a Swap File instead of a partition that does the same thing. I've made the Swap File and it's activated (I know because during shutdown there's a message that flashes very quickly that says "Deactivating Swap [OK]".
But here's the real problem. My Ubuntu refuses to Suspend or Hibernate. The screen just goes black and the backlight stays on. Since one of the main functions of the swap file is to facilitate Suspend and Hibernate,I upgraded from 9.10 Karmic Koala, which suspended and hibernated normally.
I've just upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 via the upgrade manager. Prior to the upgrade I was able to suspend and hibernate without any problems. Now that I have upgraded to 10.04, I can suspend however when I resume I am back at the gdm login prompt, logging in again with a new session.Having just done another test whilst writing this, it actually appears that if I select suspend from the top right I am suspended and can resume my session. If I close the lid on my laptop (which is supposed to suspend) I am logged out and suspended.Also, Hibernate doesn't work as well - sometimes it never actually hibernates (just sits on a black screen) and sometimes it doesn't resume (it's never hibernated and resumed correctly since the upgrade)

It does, however, still "restart" and "shutdown" OK. Anybody else having this problem?I also seem to be experiencing some of the "resume from sleep" issues which seem to be plaguing other threads. Laptop suspends fine when the lid is closed but when it's opened again it's just a black screen. Also the machine shuts down for a few seconds then starts again to a black screen.
Key presses do nothing, pushing the power button worked a couple of times but is not consistent so more often than not it needs a forced shutdown and reboot. Not an ideal situation.Suspend from the panel menu works OK and from what I can tell, if the lid is not closed then the power button will bring up the login window.
I recently installed 10.04 LTS and I have no option to suspend my desktop. I have always had the option before. I have Ubuntu installed on two other machines that can all suspend. Has this happened to anyone else? Could it be hardware or would a re-install fix the issue?

My swap partition is the right size and I don't recall doing anything wrong yet when I wake up the computer after suspending it, the monitor doesn't reactivate and I've had to force it to shut down. View 2 Replies View RelatedDuring the last install of the the 2.6.32-25 kernel, I was unable to suspend. The screen would go black, but it wouldn't enter suspend. No big deal, I figured I'd just use 24 kernel. Now after the most recent update, I can't suspend in any kernel! The screen goes black, but that's about it. If I move my mouse around, it returns me to the login screen. This isn't the only suspend problem I've had. It won't suspend if there's a DVD in, and the screen used to fade out when you hit suspend, now it just goes black.Another note, the scrolling in a browser was very different. Hard to explain, but it didn't scroll smoothly. It was very "piecy" and "choppy." I worked around it with 24, but now it's stuck here with any kernel as well.
UPDATE--I am unable to play any audio as well. When I open an MP3, no sound. When I try to watch a flash video, no sound.
I have a problem with running script before/after suspend. I tried to use pm-utils for that, i just added my script and script is executed but commands which i need not.
