I cannot reproduce, however.
Where would I find information on system crashed (kernel panics)?

Fedora :: Need Terminal Command For System Information
Jul 22, 2010I'm sure this answer is out there but I cannot find it. I thought there was a command you could put in the terminal to find out what version of Fedora you are running and also tell which architecture (either 32 bit or 64 bit) it is. Does anyone know what that command is?

Dec 21, 2010ecently (since upgrade to Ubuntu 10.10) being having problems with Amarok randomly crashing.There doesn't seem to be any pattern and it normally just disappears and music stops. Occasionally it comes up with the KDE crash tracker but it can't retrieve the debug information (although i do have amarok-dbg installed, not sure what else i need for that to work though)Anyway i have run it from the terminal and this is the output i got towards the end:

Fedora :: F14 System Crashes / What To Do?
Sep 22, 2010Well, turns out that when I rebooted into the installed system a user setup utility launched, but now whenever I try to log in as me, X crashes and GDM starts up again, telling me to relog in.
Now it's the case of "A setup utility launches and I set up my user, only to try to log in and get kicked in the face by GDM, having done all that work for nothing".

Apr 15, 2010I was using Fedora 9 until about 1 month ago when my hard drive crashed. I installed F12 on a new hard drive last week. Due to some other software issues (empathy), I decided I should try to get the latest updates. PackageKit kept giving errors and would not update. So, I researched and found that I needed to run " su -c 'yum update' " for the first update then PackageKit would work. I did this and after about an hour of updating, the screen went black. Nothing you can do at that point but hard reboot.
When I did that, I could only get a "GRUB" command line. I played with it for a minute but really I have no idea what to do with GRUB cmd (beyond my experience level). So I decided to wipe it out and reinstall F12. I did that, and was just working thru the updates again. Same thing happened, went to black screen. I have not rebooted it yet, but Im sure when I do, it will be GRUB again. What in the world am I supposed to do with this? I am not a Linux star, but I have been using it for around 8 years now with various distros, so I would say I have at least moderate experience.

But I still experience sometimes crashes.I do not know how to enable msi for uhci_hcd:usX, which is still sharing interrupts with ata_piix and ehci_hcd:usbX.Have you some hints? Feb 10, 2011I wanted to replace the Nouveau with the proprietary Nvidia driver. I removed Nouveau and changed to console mode with "init 1". Realizing that i did not properly save the binary file i switched back to graphic mode with "init 5" only to have the system freeze. I rebooted and chose the usual kernel in the grub menu. The system continued to load but froze right after the Fedora logo (which hides the textual loading details) finished loading. I can not even switch to a console with ctrl-alt-F1.

Apr 28, 2011Back in the old days of PC-DOS 3.1, computers are much simpler than today's. I can learn a lot of how File System works with tools like PCTools, Norton Disk Doctor, and [URL]. Have been working exclusive in corporate database application area for over a decade, my knowledge of how these stuff work is diminishing. Standard-clean OS (Windows, Linux) installation is all I can do now. And it starts to cause me many data-loss troubles, when I have to perform something that I don't have much insight, such as install and remove peer linux os or move and resize partitions.
I'm looking for books, web resources, or communities where I can educate myself on how various file system works, for which I can have in-depth answer to questions such as:
How to remove ubuntu and grub2 ? (I recently did that, but with a lot of frustration when I was not really sure what I was doing and confront with some scary error message like "Missing BootMgr" What kind of disk-partitioning operation can be performed non-destructively, and why ? Oct 11, 2009well i was messing with the Gparted live disk and i deleted a small partition of about 6 megs (yes megs). trying to be efficient doing some cleanup of course. but when i rebooted my Fedora 10 i get the black screen saying," could not find the file system. /dev/root". ok, i am useing the fedora 10 live cd now. can i copy that file to my hard drive from the cd? or do i need to reinstall Fedora?

Debian Hardware :: How To Get Monitor Information On System?
Feb 9, 2010I am new to Debian and Linux all together. At work, we have dual even triple minitors at our stations. I have not seen this on linux until I went to a co-workers house. I wanted to do the same and I have two monitors. I asked how but he uses X on Gentoo.How can I go about learning how to do this? I can tell you now, I DO NOT know how to get the monitor information on the system. I DO NOT know where to find the configuration files for my monitor.
I know I am going to need drivers and stuff. What I asking I guess is where I should start in order to get this going. I am running Debian (lenny) 4 GIGS ram, 1.5TB HDD and a Dual core processor. I know the video card I have is a dual head video card for two monitors. I would like to thank everyone in advanced for their and hopefully I can learn something new and be able to do this on my own in the future.
Fedora Hardware :: Can't Find System - Config - Display?
Mar 2, 2010When I installed F11 it didn't have the i810 driver so it defaulted to VESA. I upgraded to F12 using preupgrade and thought it would re-detect the graphical hardware and didn't. I want to recreate xorg.conf for my computer (Toshiba Satellite A45-S25) so I can use Compiz and some 3D application but I can't find system-config-display. It's missing from the system and I don't know what package it belongs to so I can't re-install it.

Feb 2, 2011I can't change my screen resolution but my fedora doesn't have system-config-display. Trying to install this package and for some reason it is not listed under the add/remove software, and yum says it can't find it either.
# yum install -y system-config-display
results
No package system-config-display available.
Error: Nothing to do
Searching in the add/remove software I found some others such as system-config-firewall, system-config-date and etc but it doesn't have system-config-display. Is there any other way to install this package? currently running kernal linux 2.6.35.9-64.fc14.x86_64 , fedora 14 on 64 bit system gnome 2.32.0
