Fedora :: Cannot Find GStreamer Properties On System

Feb 13, 2010

This might seem like an odd problem, but I can't find gstreamer-properties on my system. Also I can't find a package that provides it. I have tried the following
gstreamer
gstreamer-tools
gnome-media
control-center
control-center-extras
control-center-filesystem

None of those seem to provide the file. can someone who has gstreamer-properties do a
Code:
rpm -f gstreamer-properties
and let me know what rpm provides that file ?

Ubuntu :: Recognized By The System But Not According To Gstreamer-properties

Apr 16, 2011

Usually I try to fix things on my own, which btw always ends up failing So the other day I got an update of some packages, I installed them and restarted the pc. When I was back in ubuntu, the speaker icon on my panel was gone, and so was the audio settings for pulse too. When I went to system > pref > sound I got an error. So now I decided to ditch pulse. Pulse have always given me problems btw. I installed alsa, but couldn't get the shortcuts for up, down and mute to work. This is important to me because idk where the audio button on my laptop is (ASUS). So I tweaked around for awhile and decided to go for OSS since it's the only option that will allow me to record both out and ingoing audio, which is an option I use a lot. So I tweaked around and all that stuff, and now I'm very frustrated.

I have come to the conclusion that my audio card is unrecognized now. I think I have every single ALSA / OSS driver, plugin and codec installed. Ok here's the audio card info I got from the command lspci | grep Audio 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation Cougar Point High Definition Audio Controller (rev 05) 01:00.1 Audio device: nVidia Corporation Device 0be9 (rev a1) So the card is some how recognized by the system but not according to gstreamer-properties.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Cannot Open Gstreamer Properties From Terminal

May 23, 2010

I opened gstreamer-properties from the terminal. Following some directions from another thread, I changed the output to "custom" and filled in a box with a bunch of code that I didn't know anything about. I pressed "test" and it didn't work. Out of frustration, I deleted the text I had written in the box and closed gstreamer-properties. Now it won't open back up. When I try to open it from the terminal I get:

gstreamer-properties-Message: Skipping unavailable plugin 'artsdsink'
gstreamer-properties-Message: Skipping unavailable plugin 'esdsink'
Segmentation fault

That's it. It won't open and when I try to open it directly from its source folder, nothing happens at all. How can I open it back up so I can continue to fiddle with it and (hopefully) fix this blue-tint problem.

Unfortunately I cannot change the tab in the gstreamer-properties so I can reset my change. I changed the video from default to X11.How can I edit it manually from the command line?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Gstreamer Can No Longer Find Plugins?

Mar 28, 2010

Up until recently I have had no problem playing all kinds of video in Ubuntu. I recently upgraded to Lucid and I can't remember if I was able to play videos after that, but yesterday I found that I am unable to play flv or MP4 videos in either totem or vlc. Converting them to ogv using ffmpeg allows them to play just fine, and I can edit the flv and mp4 in Avidemux, so there is nothing wrong with the files themselves. Not sure what I've done, can't seem to find a bug in launchpad for this, so I am assuming it is a problem with my setup somehow.

Ubuntu :: GStreamer Error: Gstreamer Encountered A General Stream Error (not All Flacs)

Mar 29, 2011

I was trying to convert a flac audio to mp3 using soundconverter & its failing with the error:

I should note that the flac is a rip of an actual Mono Vinyl disc. Am not exactly sure how that was done but I was interested in converting some those files to ogg & mp3. OGG conversion doesn't give any error.

Below is the result when launching soundconverter from the terminal & trying to convert the flac file(s) to mp3 (i just tried ogg to mp3 & the same error occurs):

basically what i'm trying to do is get sound from flash videos on videos. my plan is to use gnash to play flash files within firefox. since gnash uses gstreamer to output audio and since i'm using jack for playback, i need to somehow route gstreamer to jack. does anyone know how to do that? here is an ubuntu thread that may help, but i'm not sure how to translate that to fedora. i'm already able to hear the sine tone from running:

code:
gst-launch audiotestsrc ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! jackaudiosink
in the console. i just don't know what to do next.

Fedora :: How To Disable / Enable Gstreamer

Jun 23, 2010

how to disable gstreamer???? (and be able to re-enable it also?) i don't want to totally remove gstreamer - as it is required by alot of software. however, when i am using
proaudio apps with low-latency having gstreamer enabled is a problem. this is because ( i think ) that my crappy intel-hda (STAC9200) only has one sub-device, while many other cards have multiple.

so when gstreamer is there, i will get more xruns, and a nasty message in dmesg, something along the lines of "intel-hda switching to polling mode". overall performance of the card will suck. BUT! if gstreamer is NOT there, i can run low-latency(2ms) with pretty much no xruns(jackd). the only time i get the odd one is if i am switching drum banks in a wine VST.

well, i remove pulseaudio when i install Fedora, gstreamer doesn't work properly after that, you can't use rhythmbox, or anything. but you will get much better latencies and generally the card is very useful. ie: i can manipulate many sounds/samples/synths in realtime, or actually record in ardour with a decent load...

Fedora :: Gstreamer Ugly From Source

Aug 15, 2011

I have this computer I actively use. Sys-admin forbids us from using third party repos. Compiling from source is allowed if a copy of the source sent to him. He made it clear he won't help unless system is fubar.Because I choosed fedora, I ended up with only pc in whole room which cannot play music and video. I have root access so;I got lame from sourceforge and gstreamer ugly 0.10.16 from freedesktop.I did '.configure','make' and 'make install' on lame and gstreamer. I wasn't able to read the whole stream of text flowed by make and make install, but other than few "defined but not used" errors I didn't seen any big errors.I tried play mp3 with totem but it failed. I tried extract the post and pre install scripts from gstreamer-plugins-bad-0.10.22-1.fc15.i686.rpm fo rpmfusion to learn what else needed to done after/before install, but post and pre scripts were empty. Do I have to do something else to get it to work?

Fedora :: What Happened To Gnome-volume-properties?

Oct 29, 2009

I'd like to know, what happened to this tool? Till F10 this tool was responsible for automounting Usb drives/Cdrom drives that were connected before I logged into the System via gdm. Since F11, this feature seems to be gone. I recently noticed that my external usb disk stopped to "automagically" appear on the desktop after login. Now I have to powercycle the disk (switch off, switch on) to have it appear on the desktop again. Is there an alternative tool to gnome-volume-properties, or do I really have to play around with hal to get this back? Doesn't really makes to me any sense to remove this feature.
