Fedora :: Run A LiveCD Without A CD?

I know that this question has been asked many times across many forums and last night, I finally figured out how to do it from Windows. I'll post the procedure for an existing Linux distro later. "Is it possible to run a LiveCD iso off of the hard drive?" Yes it is. Here's how:

1. Download the Fedora LiveCD from here.

2. An .iso file is basically like an archive; except that it's made for CDs. Extract the entire file into a vfat, ext3, or ext2 partition. I use WinRAR (for Windows) as my extractor. IMPORTANT: This method won't work if you extract the file into a NTFS partition.

3. Install UNetbootin and run it. Select "Fedora" as the distribution and "10 Net_Install" as the version. At the bottom of the dialogue screen, under type, select "Hard Drive" and next to that, select your partition (C:, D:, etc.).

4. Press OK. Unetbootin will install a basic GRUB bootloader. When it promts you to restart, press Cancel. You don't want to restart... yet...

5. Browse to your Windows partition (most likely C. You should see a folder called "unetin". Browse into that folder and you'll see a file called "menu". Open it with Notepad.

6. Paste this text at the bottom of the file:

title Fedora LiveCD
root (hdx,x) "NOTE: Replace hdx,x with your partition holding the extracted iso. Most likely, it'll be either (hd0,0), (hd0,1), or (hd0,2)"

7. Restart and select "Unetbootin" when Windows shows your Bootloader. Wait 3 seconds and press Esc.

8. Select "Fedora LiveCD" and press enter. You should boot into the LiveCD. It might be slow, so be patient and it'll come up.

EDIT: COMMON MISTAKES AND ERRORS:

1. Grub Error 15: File not found: It's likely that you made a typo in the menu file or that you didn't set your /dev/xxx (hdx,x) parameters correctly. Try changing those around and it should work.
