Sep 1, 2011I find it not easy to install free (even open source) softwares. I downloaded CELTX on celtx.com but still have difficulties to install it as other installed softwares in Ubuntu; even after I read few guides in Internet about how installing software in Ubuntu.
P.S: I wonder why developers don't make it easier with a setup.exe file like in windows

I installed to disk from the LIVE CD namely

After it was installed and rebooted everything worked fine EXCEPT that yum did not have any repositories!
Can anyone with a successfully working yum on FC13 IA64 please post the contents of /etc/yum/yum.repos.d

Mar 9, 2009I've burned the installation media on several different types of media, and i'm getting an error after the 3 bars load (first screen). I've tried the verify and boot option, and it's fine. I'm trying Fedora 10 on a studio xps 1340. The error messageet isCE hpet increasing min_delta_ns to xxxxx nsec twice, thenForce XPAon: 0about 15 times, thenCE hpet increasing min_delta_ns to xxxxx nsec a few more times, this pattern alternates and the xxxxx keeps increasing, starting at something like 10000 and jumping by 50000 each time it reposts.

Fedora Installation :: Grub Does Not Load On MBR Using LiveCD
Sep 18, 2009I had Win XP on my T61. I installed Fedora 11 from Gnome LiveCD. Now I cant even see GRUB. The laptop boots directly into Win XP. I had the partitions like this:
/dev/sda1 - Win XP - NTFS - 75 GB
/dev/sda2 - Win Recovery - NTFS - 5 GB
/dev/sda3 - /boot - ext3 - 1 GB
/dev/sda4 - Logical extended partition
/dev/sda5 - / - ext4 - 10 GB
/dev/sda6 - swap - 3 GB
Installed GRUB on the MBR (/dev/sda, and not on any partition). Once I completed installing Fedora 11 from the LiveCD and rebooted, the laptop directly boots into Win XP. No sign of Fedora there. How do I get to install GRUB now?

I am trying to Install Fedora 11 from a live install CD. I know it works because I tried it on another system. After the little Balloon that shows its loading completes the screen scrambles, later a mouse pointer appears then freezes shortly after. When I remove Quiet from Kernel Params. Lots of text then Samething.. Scrambled Screen the Freeze. I have tried adding the Following Parameters to the Kernel (nomodeset, xdriver=vesa, acpi=noirq, noapic). This sounds like a common problem with ATI based graphics and all answers seem to point the "nomodeset" and the "xdriver=vesa" but they dont seem to help.

Sep 6, 2010I installed Fedoa 13 from a Gnome Live cd which I had to burn on a DVD since I had no cd Available. I just saw that there is still the option to download the DVD image. Since my installation is quite buggy I'd like to know if installing from a DVD has better outcomes.

Aug 25, 2011I have finally decided to bite the bullet and upgrade my current Linux system from Fedora Core 2 to Fedora 15. When checking the download page and from reading another thread there is apparently no isos' available for an set of install CDs. An iso is only available for DVD. Since my machine does not have a DVD drive that is obviously not an option. In the past I have only installed from a set CDs and I'm not sure which install method is the best to use. I do have a DSL internet connection and will probably need to increase my partitions sizes. Which install method do you recommend and why?

Jan 9, 2009Downloaded the F10 live CD. Booted to it, got past the white, blue, and dark blue loading bar then my screen would be covered in black and white lines. No sign of the GUI except for a mouse cursor. ctrl+alt+backspace would cause the display to blink off and then come back on to the same thing. ctrl+alt+f2 would bring me to a terminal, logged in as root, but from there I couldn't do anything. startx would tell me I had x running on another screen.
hitting tab when booting the livecd and adding "xdriver=vesa" and "nomodeset" to the boot line. That works. I get to the desktop at native res with desktop effects. Killer. I tried to install; install went flawless, rebooted to my HDD and the same issue, black and white bars. When booted to my HDD, however, ctrl+alt+f2 doesn't bring me to a terminal, it causes my monitor to go into sleep mode and my computer becomes unresponsive so I can't do anything from the command line.
Here's what I'm getting at : how do I get my installed version of F10 to do the "xdriver=vesa" and "nomodeset" args that the livecd can do?
My machine is a home built machine I bought off of a friend. P4 2.4 ghz, GB RAM, 2 80GB HDDs, Radeon x1600.

Dec 8, 2010I am trying to install Fedora on my computer but I am getting a kernel panic at liveCD boot after boot menu. It occurs to me for F13 and F14 (all x64, F14 x86 seems to boot fine but I'm trying to host a x64 guest OS on it so I need to get the x64 version to work)
My system specs:
Dual Opteron 265
4GB RAM
Asus K8N-DL (nVidia nForce Pro 2000, BIOS 1010)
I also tried to install F14 in some other computer (which worked flawlessly) and put the HDD into the computer in question, which gave me the same kernel panic.
Fedora Installation :: LiveCD-system Crash At Partition Step?
Jun 5, 2011I run ubuntu, 2 partion, one primary for / , one for /home and ofc swap.When I run the Livecd, at the partition step I do:
-Custom
-Select my / partition to install
-When I select next I get the error "blah blah, must be probably a bug...." and system crashes.
After system crach I can't boot into Ubuntu or anything, it gets me on the "error 11 ( think is 11 ) grub> " screen.Also, I think its something with my nouveau drivers, I think i get an error when boots the LiveCD something like "fudc...". It happens really fast and I can't read it properly.I did this procedure twice to write the errors, but it happens too fast to check them out. Also, is there a way to prepare the system before installing the Fedora, to avoid these errors?

Fedora Installation :: Dual Boot - Installer From F13 LiveCD Doesn't Detect Other OS - So Grub Conf Is Wrong
Oct 13, 2010I've just installed Fedora (F13) for the first time, on a new HDD, to give myself a dual-boot system. So currently I have:
So, at the appropriate stage in the install menu, there is an option for where to install GRUB, and a drop-down to choose which drive is the primary BIOS boot drive.
However, in both cases, no other drive except my new sdc is visible. So, I can install GRUB to MBR of sdc, or to first sector of boot partition - but no option to put it to my primary boot drive MBR on sda.
Likewise, in the GRUB configuration page, if I go to Add another OS, the only option it gives me is my new Fedora install. It doesn't list the Vista OS on sda at all.
The result is that I can boot to either OS by changing the boot drive priority in BIOS.
I guess my question is this:
- is this expected behaviour from the installer, meaning that I'll need to configure GRUB manually somehow? (gulp ) or
- did I do something wrong in the install process? or
- is this some weird bug manifesting itself?

Apr 10, 2010I am running Windows 7 and wanted to install VMWare and Ubuntu on it. So I downloaded VMware and the Ubuntu install files but I got stuck on the Language prompt. So I researched and downloaded Ubuntu alternate iso file and the install went fine.
I now launch VMWare and get a prompt for username and Password which I enter.

May 10, 2011Actually, thats a lie. It works on the initial screen (where you can select how you want to install via command line or text based etc etc).But whatever option i select from there it loses the keyboard.The first screen (asking for keyboard layout) just sits there on english but i am unable to advance. Its as if my keyboard is unplugged (has LED backlights and they turn off as soon as it hits this screen so im guessing its USB driver related).I wanted the alternate to do drive encryption but it doesnt seem to want to know. Normal CD works fine btw.

Apr 15, 2011A few weeks ago I jumped into Ubuntu by installing 10.04 on an old PC. All was working fine until today. I have been trying things all do to fix this. When I try to install from the software center, nothing happens. Nothing! It worked fine before. I did an update early today. I have even updated one new update late today. But the software center will not install anything. The install button goes grey for about a second, then back to normal.
I went to System, Administration, Software Sources, Other Sources (tab), clicked partner - to rebuild the package info. That did not change anything. I am not sure how to update to 10.10 since I am new to Linux.
Ubuntu Installation :: Use The Alternate So Can Encrypt The Hd?
Apr 17, 2010have been trying for many hours to install Ubuntu 9.10, on a system that already had 9.10 installed on it at one point (so I know it should work!) I am using an alternate install, from a USB thumb drive. I use the alternate so I can encrypt the hd. Everything goes smoothly until I am to select extra packages to be installed. The only package I select is the ubuntu-desktop, and around 80% progress, or so, it fails. I then try and complete the base install, and then login to the command prompt and install there:
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktopIt then requests the Ubuntu disc, which of course I don't have. It has a landline internet connection. Do I need to configure something to tell it to look to the mirrors to find the desktop? Or, should it have been included in my iso image originally
