Fedora Networking :: Setup A LAN With An FC14 Laptop - FC15 PC And A Windows Machine Running XP?

Trying to set up a LAN with an FC14 laptop, FC15 PC and a Windows machine running XP. I have SAMBA installed on both FC machines, but neither of them can see shares on each other or the XP machine. I can ping between all of them. The Windows machine sees all of the SAMBA shares.
When I attempt to Connect to Server under Places on the FC15 PC, I do not have a Windows share option to choose from as I do on the laptop, suggesting smbclient isn't configured correctly on that machine. SMB, NMB and WINBIND are installed and activated on startup on both FC machines. Although I have the Windows share option on the FC14 laptop, it will only connect with the IP address.
Firewalls and SELinux on both machines are disabled. Here are some configuration details:

I have used preupgrade to moved from fc14 to fc15. With fc14 I had my two usb 3.0 ports working. However, with fc15 my usb 3.0 ports are disabled. I have read the instruction at the common fc15 bugs doc and removed the kernel parameter xhci.enable=1 and also erased the file /etc/pm/config.d/xhci. Still the usb 3.0 ports are not working. I am using kernel 2.6.38.6-26.rc1.fc15.x86_64. I cannot use the 2.6.38.6-27.fc15.x86_64 since there no nvidia drivers for it.

I have just upgraded my Lenovo T61 from FC14 to FC15. Under FC14, I had the system set up to hibernate when the lid was closed. When I opened the lid, the system would automatically come out of hibernation in just a few seconds and I would be back to where I was.
Under FC15, I have also set it to hibernate when the lid closes. When I open the lid, nothing happens until I tap the power button, and then it comes out of hibernation via some kind of reboot: I see the Lenovo splash screen, then the machine beeps and goes into a wakeup routine, which takes much longer than it did under FC14.

After doing an upgrade from FC14 to FC15, I then updated the packages by doing:
yum update yum
yum clean all
yum --releasever=15 --disableplugin=presto distro-sync
I then get the following voluminous list of issues (148 pre-existing rpmdb problems). I've done an rpm --rebuilddb but no help.
Running rpm_check_debug
ERROR with rpm_check_debug vs depsolve:
libclutter-gtk-0.10.so.0()(64bit) is needed by gthumb-2.12.3-2.fc15.x86_64

Well, it appears that downloading and installing libclutter-gtk-0.10.so.0 seemed to fix all the subsequent yum error messages, and I was able to install all the packages.

Started LSB: Start up the OpenSSH server daemon. and there is a blinking cursor.

Just upgraded from FC14 to FC15 but YUM is bust, I get the errors of: Could not retrieve mirrorlist... Tried checking the my fedora.repo and fedora-updates.repo and they are all fine and even added in entries into my host file but I still getting the error, am I missing something simple?

I have installed Fedora 15 on a Acer Aspire one computer laptop. I have some missing windows for Network settings windows.First issue:When setting wep or wpa or wapa2 there is no windows to type in the passphase and key so the laptop can connect to the wireless netgear wireless router.Second issue:Once a password is typed in the one line access there is no way one can reset what has been typed in. Gassp! Check this out....one can highlite wireless and options does not light up. I have a Lenovo T500 laptop with 4 GB RAM. I have installed Windows 7 64bits OEM on my laptop HD. I also installed Fedora 14 on my USB External Hard Drive which it has it own boot sector. I don't want to have a dual boot. So if I plug in my external HD to my laptop and turns the machine on, it automatically my Fedora comes up, other wise my windows 7. (I set up start-up boot drive , first to USB External HD and then internal HD)

After setting everything and start installing windows form CD, I got BLUE SCREEN right after "WINDOWS FILES LOADING..." finished. it shows me a blue screen and then it will stop

following mjmwired instructions, I manually setup the sudo but I keep getting a parse error whenever sudo command is run. How do I fix this issue?I login as su -, then setup sudo using "echo 'myusername ALL=(ALL) ALL' >> /etc/sudoers". All appears OK. I exit su, and go back to myusername.

I have an offer for a free outdated laptop, and wondering if it's possible to run skype on this. It will be running with a very stripped-down Ubuntu Linux operating system, and no other graphical goodies hogging up the processing power.
The specs will be:
400 Mhz Celeron processor
Approx 300 MB RAM
Rest is unknown.
Think this is capable of running skype with video?

I'm trying to set up one machine to "serve" music to several others, running ubuntu or windows. Sharing the main "Music" folder is fine (Using Sharing in Nautilus), but the sub-folders in it are not accessible. I have tried setting the file permissions on the server (all 755), but that doesn't seem to affect the situation - the Music folder is available, so are any music files directly in Music, but trying to open the folder "JazzMisc" within Music fails.The way I have found to get around this is to separately set up JazzMisc, and many other folders, as shares; but then I have dozens of shares, rather than a folder tree under Music in which I can find what I want.

I've been wanting to have the ability to ssh into my Win 7 home machine from my laptop, from anywhere and I'm not sure how to do this. I try to access my ubuntu machine via my Windows Machine (Samba Server on Ubuntu Machine). Anytime I try to access the machine it asks me for my password...I enter it but it says it is invalid....is there anyway to reset it? I want to do two things: Set up a virtual machine on Windows 7 to run Ubuntu Set up a way for the virtual machine to read the windows disk or windows to have read/write access to the virtual machine's disk. My goal is to have a place where both Ubuntu and Windows can read and write. What software is good for this task? Are their free programs that can run virtual machines? Also if my machine is running Windows 7 64-bit, can I install Ubuntu 32-bit? Or am I forced to use Ubuntu 64-bit? Or does it not matter?

i just finished successfully installing a virtual machine and windows xp. the windows setup finished no errors, but now when i try to boot up it gives me the blue screen of death (see attachment). after the bsod it just reboots.
note: in the screenshot it doesn't look blue but it is. i couldn't pause it so then it would show blue so it ended up black.

I am trying to establish the easiest way to share a folder from an Ubuntu machine to a Windows machine.In the past I have added things to smb.conf and that has all worked fine but what I am trying to do is to figure out what the "new user" way of doing this is so that when I am helping other people I know I am getting them to do the simplest thing.I completely removed samba and reinstalled it so that I didn't have any configuration. Right clicked on a folder and selected "Sharing Options" ticked the "Share this folder box" gave it a name and a comment and ticked the other two boxes.
When I went to the windows laptop then it kept asking for a username/password and nothing worked.Back on the ubuntu machine I did sudo smbpasswd -a [username] and created a blank password. Now from the windows machine I can access the shared folder.Is the smbpasswd step still required? It's very confusing for a new user as there is no suggestion that anything other than right clicking on the folder and choosing the options you want would be required. Is it something to do with the fact that this is an ubuntu machine that has gradually been upgraded through versions and this problem wouldn't have been there from a new install?
