Trying to set up a LAN with an FC14 laptop, FC15 PC and a Windows machine running XP. I have SAMBA installed on both FC machines, but neither of them can see shares on each other or the XP machine. I can ping between all of them. The Windows machine sees all of the SAMBA shares.
When I attempt to Connect to Server under Places on the FC15 PC, I do not have a Windows share option to choose from as I do on the laptop, suggesting smbclient isn't configured correctly on that machine. SMB, NMB and WINBIND are installed and activated on startup on both FC machines. Although I have the Windows share option on the FC14 laptop, it will only connect with the IP address.
Firewalls and SELinux on both machines are disabled. Here are some configuration details:
rpm -qa | grep samba
samba-3.5.8-68.fc15.1.x86_64
samba-winbind-3.5.8-68.fc15.1.x86_64
samba-swat-3.5.8-68.fc15.1.x86_64
system-config-samba-docs-1.0.9-2.fc15.noarch

How can I set up an encrypted LVM without using the "Guided - Use entire disk" option of the alternate installer.
My drive is quite big and I would like to be able to have my encrypted LVM as well as an extra LUKS encrypted partition which I could mount whenever needed. Unfortunately the options in the alternate installer do not allow me to do this without using up the entire disk.

Then I downloaded the netinstall image and repeat the procedure but with exact same result, nothing happened after the count down.I tested the download iso by installing it to a VMware VM, and installation completed. I don't even know where to start trouble shooting The only thing common between the two machine is the Nvidia graphic chip.

After doing an upgrade from FC14 to FC15, I then updated the packages by doing:
yum update yum
yum clean all
yum --releasever=15 --disableplugin=presto distro-sync
I then get the following voluminous list of issues (148 pre-existing rpmdb problems). I've done an rpm --rebuilddb but no help.
Running rpm_check_debug
ERROR with rpm_check_debug vs depsolve:
libclutter-gtk-0.10.so.0()(64bit) is needed by gthumb-2.12.3-2.fc15.x86_64
Please report this error in [URL]
Found 148 pre-existing rpmdb problem(s), 'yum check' output follows:
ImageMagick-c++-6.6.4.1-15.fc14.x86_64 has missing requires of ImageMagick = ('0', '6.6.4.1', '15.fc14')
akonadi-1.5.3-1.fc14.x86_64 has missing requires of libboost_program_options-mt.so.1.44.0()(64bit)
alchemist-1.0.37-8.fc12.x86_64 has missing requires of python(abi) = ('0', '2.6', None) .....
Your transaction was saved, rerun it with: yum load-transaction /tmp/yum_save_tx-2011-05-27-10-30qO4br9.yumtx
Well, it appears that downloading and installing libclutter-gtk-0.10.so.0 seemed to fix all the subsequent yum error messages, and I was able to install all the packages.

I'm trying to install dahdi on FC15.
yum list 'dahdi*'
Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit
Installed Packages
dahdi-tools.i686 2.4.1-1.fc15 @fedora
dahdi-tools-devel.i686 2.4.1-1.fc15 @fedora
dahdi-tools-libs.i686 2.4.1-1.fc15 @fedora
I have dahdi installed. And a wildcard card:
dahdi_hardware
pci:0000:04:07.0 wcfxo-1057:5608 Wildcard X100P
modprobe dahdi returns: "FATAL: Module dahdi not found."
and dahdi_genconf finds no spans.
I have commented out the following line in /etc/modprobe.d/dahdi.blacklist.conf:
"#blacklist wcfxo", which I believe corresponds to the appropriate module.
However modprobe wcfxo indiates that module is not found. I have an up to date fc15 installation.

After installing FC15 on my computer, I cannot boot on my windows7 due to an error 18. I installed FC on 2 new partitions I created during the installation, so I guess they moved before my window's.Is there a solution to fix this without erasing my windows partition? (at worse, I'm ok with deleting my linux partitions for I haven't done anything with it yet).

I upgraded Sunday evening from FC14 to FC15 using the yum preupgrade method. Services such as httpd, vsftpd, sshd, named and even the VNC server are all running. I can connect via VNC client and get a downgraded gnome desktop, but from the console, I cannot start X or gnome desktop.I have searched many threads over the last day+ and found many references to problems with nVidia drivers - and I have a nVidia adapter. but I am not sure what is next to do and need a lead.

I have a weird question about the sudoers file. Currently, I am running "Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 4 (Nahant Update 8)".
I edited the sudoers file (via visudo) and added the following:
User_Alias RPTS2 = vtmtest
RPTS2 xxxxx = (jboss) /oracle/app/oracle/apps/rptsd/deploy-jboss/deploy_rpts_jboss.sh
The user (vtmtest) issues the following command
sudo /oracle/app/oracle/apps/rptsd/deploy-jboss/deploy_rpts_jboss.sh
and gets this message:
user vtmtest is not allowed to execute '/oracle/app/oracle/apps/rptsd/deploy-jboss/deploy_rpts_jboss.sh' as root on xxxxx
When I look at the log, I see the following:
Jan 25 14:17:57 xxxxx sudo: vtmtest : command not allowed ; TTY=pts/12 ; PWD=/export/home/vtmtest ; USER=root ; COMMAND=/oracle/app/oracle/apps/rptsd/deploy-jboss/deploy_rpts_jboss.sh
1. Why does sudo try to run as the root user, when I have specified in the command to run as jboss?
2. Do I need to specify anything else so that this command can run as the "jboss" user and not "root"?

I want to use root password instead of adding my user to the list of sudoers,In Arch wiki ander Root password:Users can configure sudo to ask for the root password instead of the user password by adding "rootpw" to the Defaults line in /etc/sudoers: but that did not work for me. it asks for root password. Why do I want to do that:
1. I want to do that, I like sudo more than su -c 'some_command'.
2. sudo enables bash completion, su -c does not.
3. I don't want to add my user to sudoers list.
I found many users Suggesting alternatives and lowering the important of my need for this, when I asked this question in anther please.

Original HOWTO can be found at: [URL]... So the other day I was in IRC and someone had brought up a problem where they created a new Administrative user, but didnt have rights to use sudo. Looked into the problem a little bit to figure out what was wrong, and it turns out that when you create a new user through the user manager (in kubuntu, anyways. Havent tested in Gnome.) the user gets added to the adm group, however, a quick look at the sudoers file shows that its looking for users in the admin group to allow the use of sudo. So, to solve the problem we do the following: If youre on the new admin user (which Im assuming you are) use the following commands:
Code:
su [insert username of old account without brackets]
sudo usermod -G admin [username of new admin account without brackets]
exit
Then simply logout, and then log back in (not always necessary, but the easiest way to flush the permissions.)
Code:
su [insert username of old account without brackets]
Means were going to Switch User to the old admin account
Code:
sudo usermod -G admin [username of new admin account without brackets]
This simply adds the admin group to the secondary group list for the new user
Code:
exit
Pretty self explanatory

When I try to install fedora 11 from the Live CD I get the hwaddress error and cannot continue. As far as I know there is no fix for that other than installing from the full DVD, but I don't have the facility to do that. What I would like to know is if it is possible to install fedora manually for eg. create the partitions with something like fdisk and copy all the files over from the live disc to the hdd and then install grub to start fedora and use it as if it had been installed normally.
Sorry if this is a stupid question. In my head I have this idea that anaconda is some helper program to install fedora and that it should be possible to do it yourself with the right commands.

A day ago I finally got around to upgrading the PackageKit installation that had been sitting for a week and a half, so I found a new upgrade for sudo available - the one that gives the sudoreplay command, I forget which version number it is exactly. When I try to use the sudo command I get this notice in my terminal:Code:Can't open /var/db/sudo/me/1: Permission deniedI didn't get it before. What do I have to do to make it open? I'm using SELinux in enforcing mode if that helps.

How do you setup the sudo command so that it will insult the user if they enter the wrong password? I know it sounds kind of random, but I found that it was an option while looking up something else. I tried adding "Defaults insults" using visudo, and commenting out "Defaults targetpw" and "ALL ALL=(ALL) ALL", and adding my username as "blank888 ALL=(ALL) ALL" but I still can't get it to work right.

I am looking for a way to setup sudo access for a user, so that he can change permission of all files of the given dir.
eg:
By this user can change ownership of files which are on depth bellow to given dir (i.e /etc/userA-conf/), but while trying to change permission of /etc/userA-conf/../user-conf2 , getting error, user userA don;t have that permission.
Let me know what will be the right regex/pattern to achieve this.
In Solaris it's working fine, but I am trying it on Linux RHEL5.
