Fedora Networking :: Set Up A Network From A CLI?

Feb 9, 2009

I can't get into a GUI until I download drivers and I need to know how to set up my network from a CLI. I was on the install forum and told to try the network forum. The computer specs are:

Motherboard -- XFX 750a
CPU -- Phenom X4 quad core
GPU -- NVIDIA 9800GT
Memory -- 4GB
Monitor -- Sceptre
HD -- 500GB

Not sure exactly what info you need for this as I'm very new to Linux. If more info is needed please just ask

Fedora Networking :: Bridged Networking And NetworkManager - No Network Connection Because Network Isn't Managed

Mar 2, 2011

I have installed qemu/kvm and created a Bridged network connection which works just fine(Windows 7 VM won't work in NAT mode.)

But when I try to use NetworkManager it says that I have no network connection because the network isn't managed, (I set the settings in ifcfg-br0 and ifcfg-eth0 to be managed)

The real problem is that now I can't use my VPN connections (I have many) in NetworkManager.

Is there a way to have both of these pieces of functionality?

I am using FC14

Fedora Networking :: Connecting Home Network To Work Network

Sep 20, 2010

Currently my office use a Cisco Firewall which will only allow the ANYCONNECT utility to do the vpn connection. I found a Linux utility (OpenConnect) which will do the same thing, but allow me more flexibility with my networking needs. What I ultimately would like to have is to have a switch that I can connect any network device into it and be connected to the office. IE (my IP Work Phone and Computer) Currently I have is a computer with fedora 13 and two network cards eth0 (home network - connected to a router) and eth1 which I would like to connect a switch to. OpenConnect communicates fine and I can see the work network from the Fedora machine. It creates a vpn0 tun/tap device and I don't know how to pass communication to/from the eth1 device.

Do I try to iptables the ports for the phone and services I need on the computer? Or do I build bridge; and If I do what am I bridging. I have tried making a bridge from eth1 to vpn0 which reply's with unsupported device or something like that.Unfortunately my network skills are bit limited and my office says "it can't be done". Their solution is for me to buy a ASA5505 (or something device) and have a static IP. I would have to make it work as my router and even then it will only DHCP 10 ip addresses; which will cause a shortage of IP addresses in the house.

I think the VPN auth has been passed at that time, the problem might about creating the VPN Tunnel.

Fedora Networking :: Vista / Fedora 13 - Can't See Box In Windows Network

Oct 19, 2010

I recently bought a new Netgear WNDR3300 Wireless-N router, and cannot seem to see the linux box in my windows network. (We have multiple Windows machines on my network, all in the same workgroup.) I also recently bought Avast anti-virus, and I think I have enabled the IP range of all computers to enable communication. I wonder if a media router has different needs than just the regular router I used to use. My samba file is minimal, I will post an example. I wish my Windows computer to access a drive marked /terminal on my linux box. I have a drive on my Windows marked E:Cher on my Vista box. My workgroup name is BRCR.

Fedora Networking :: Fedora 13 X64 Keeps Disconnecting From Network

Sep 29, 2010

I've seen many threads of this type, but I didn't see anyone simply say what the problem is. There's got to be something happenning to make it disconnect, and then something else makes it so it can't re-connect.What I get is that it connects for some time (maybe a short time, maybe a longer time) but eventually it just disconnects. When I try to re-connect wpa_supplicat log says simply it's trying to associate with the AP; it's associated with the AP; and then it's disconnected: CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED - Disconnect event - remove keys

It is a home-built with AMD64 and a D-Link DWA-160 A2 (Atheros AR9710) and Netgear extreme 300 router AP. The router log shows it is in fact connecting for a short while only to be disconnected at my computer's request. This is Fedora 13 out of the box (sort of!) except that I have the development repos and the updates repos and the RPM fusion repos installed. I have NM applet running. I use one called simply "network", and also one called "control network devices". but they all lead to the same result that it can't reconnect. If I play with it enough doing any variety of changes I can eventually get it to reconnect, but there's no telling what action was the successful one. I just think it reset whatever was bothering it. But, as I saw another thread describe, if I delete ALL network connection definitions and reboot, it will find the network and it will connect. But sooner or later I'll be back to where it disconnects. So, does anyone actually know what the major malfunction is? It should have been identified and qualified and quantified by now so that there's a simple write-up of cause and fix. But thru all my googling I can't find anything definite. If anyone has some good answer please post it so we all can benefit.

Fedora Networking :: Network Printing - 10 To XP

Mar 30, 2009

I have been trying to set up printing on my Fedora 10 machine so I can print with a remote printer on my LAN that is attached to a Windows XP machine. I went through the whole configuration process, selected a samba printer, put in the correct UNC and driver- it is an HP psc series 1210, the printer was detected when I selected browse during the configuration process so I know I've entered the right UNC. When I try to print a test page or anything for that matter the printer starts as if it is going to start printing but nothing happens. When I go into printer properties it tells me that I have a Remote Downlevel Document and that it is printing but nothing is happening. I've tried restarting the print spool service but nothing works.

Fedora Networking :: No Network / Internet With 11?

Jun 15, 2009

I've worked with Fedora 10 for quite a time, with no problems regarding network or internet. Now that I've upgraded to Fedora 11, nothing regarding networking works. I have a dual LAN nVidia controlled network card. I've tried every possible network setting (dhcp, local only, etc...) and also tried to connect 2 pc's via direct connection, all without a result.

When I activate dhcp (as I normally would do/did), fedora tries to connect (with this blue balls spinning next to the clock), but then after a while, I just says that the network doesn't connect (the little red cross over the network connection). If I try to enter the ip, gateway, etc... manually, it says that I'm connected, but I can't ping0find any other computer or router.

Fedora Networking :: How To Debug A Network

Aug 27, 2009

I built my wife a new computer about a month ago, from a barebones kit. It seems to be working fine, except that it will not connect to a known-good internet connection. I can put the cable that is connected to her ethernet port on my computer (also built from a barebones kit) and my computer connects automatically. The network is a cable modem followed by a six port router. Two of the ports, plus the one my wife's computer is on, are in use, but all have been checked, and all work.I thought there might be a hardware problem with the onboard etherneet port that is part of the motherboard, but adding a separate ethernet NIC card did not help; it simply gave me another port that would not connect. I have since removed the second ethernet port.

I am using the default Fedora 10 installation from a DVD I got a few months ago with a magazine. It is exactly the same installation I put on my computer, which works fine. I also put Fedora 10, since upgraded to 11, on the machine in the basement, which also connected okay. The GUI used is Gnome. So the question is, how do I go about debugging what might be wrong? Once I find what's wrong, I will almost certainly need help fixing it, but that is for later.

Fedora Networking :: Host Only Network From Guest?

Feb 3, 2009

My Windows guests see my VMware Host Only folders as \.hostShared Folders But when I try to see them from a Linux guest, all I get is frustrated. No permutation of that seems to work. Because the Windows guests see the shared folders I know the host is doing its part in providing them. After two days of not finding an answer on the VMware Workstation forum I finally figured out that the problem really is how to look for them with Linux. With Linux I can turn off all NICs accept the Host Only NIC, put smb://172.16.138.1 into the address bar and see all the shares on the host, but not the folder designated as the host only folder.
