whenever I try and acces my windows network it just says "Failed To Receive Share List From Server"It has previously worked fine in ubuntu and suse. Anyway I can get this to work?
View 2 RepliesSo, I'm trying to set up a network with my windows netbook so the Ubuntu comp can access the internet through the netbook's wireless. Finally got the network set up, but can't access the internet on the Ubuntu comp. Also, the Ubuntu machine can recognize and access the files on the netbook, but the netbook only sees a computer named Owner-a6012abd6 which asks for a password.
The netbook is running Windows XP SP3, with an Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network adapter(internet) and an Atheros AR8132 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller. The Ubuntu comp is running Ubuntu 9.04.
I have two machines running ubuntu connected through a BiPAC 7401VGPR3 (Billion modem/router). One is a new notebook running Ubuntu 11.04 and the other desktop computer is running 10.04 connected to the printer and external hdd.
I can't find the right documentation to network them so that I can share HDD, printers, devices, etc. I can't get either computer to see each other via network searches.
Also may need to boot into Windows from time to time and access the network from there.
I have installed Fedora 8 on an old PC to use as a home network and I am having trouble getting a Windows PC running XP to get through to the internet, but I am able to access the internet from the Linux box with no issues. I can ping the gateway on eth0 from the Linux box, but I can't ping it from the windows PC. I am able to ping the IP address for eth0 from the Windows PC. My internet gateway is a modem/router from Hughes net. I also have a Netgear router between the Linux box and the Windows PC, but there doesn't appear to be any issues because I can ping both NICs from the Windows PC. View 7 Replies View RelatedI marked this solved when I discovered, after much reconfiguring, I had a faulty Netgear router - I just thought I'd save you reading all this to find the answer.I have 3 machines at home all running Lucid. All have Samba and shared folders but I can't access files on any machine from any other. This worked ok when they were running Karmic. I'm also unable to set up printing across the network from the two machines without local printers. The main machine has 2 printers connected via USB, the others are using WiFi. I'm not using firewalls on any machine.
Filesharing
On any machine I go to Places, Network and Nautilus opens at network:/// and shows me 'Windows Network' I open that and see the Workgroup folder which I open and see the folder is empty. (I did see the 3 machines before I completely removed Samba and re-installed a few minutes ago)
Printing
On one of the remote machines I go to Add Printer, Select Device, Network Printer, Windows Printer via Samba, Browse but I can't see the machine with the printers attached in the Workgroup. Another clue is that when I look at the printer properties, policies on the main machine all 3 boxes are ticked, Enabled, Accepting jobs (but it says Not published) and Shared.
I wish to write a python code so that I can access a file on a windows computer on the network. I know the IP, Computer Name, Workgroup, username,password and any other neccesary detail of the computer. I also have the access to the computer to intall any software I may need to install on the said windows computer.
Kindly guide me so that I may access the files. The files are in a folder shared over the network but not on the windows drive of the computer.
I am able to access the files using gui (ubuntu 11.04).
i hav 2 laptops but there is only one LAN port and i recently splitted them with my own router, the problem is the internet works fine, but i cannot access the schools's network e.g. my friend's shared folder in another room, the school's shared folder, etc. i can only access my own local router network.

I am using F10 desktop edition, all the computers using windows are able to access the shared folders over lan except me using F10. I have tried many things with smb but still unable to connect.I am new to linux so i dont khow much of its technicalities.kindly suggest how can i be able to access the shared documents ..

he moved in a new place and there is a huge share on the network machine which runs windows... however he has fedora 10 installed on a desktop pc with a big screen and asked me to configure it so it can access the share... i have almost no experience with fedora and i've been trying to do this for two days now... i installed the samba package, but now what? how to do this because the exact commands are unknown to me... i have the root password and everything else on the network... so i just need to know what ot write in order to be able to mount all the TBs of information on the server...

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a troubling networking situation that is compounded by the system being remote without any out-of-band mgmt in place nor a serial connection - but am relying on a coworker entering commands into the terminal for me, or doing stuff in the GUI I have an FC12 i386 install running, that was up and stable for 6 days. Primarily this was only being used for a deployment of nTop. Up through Monday evening, I was connecting to the system (in NY) via VNC (here in SF), and was successfully watching nTop do its thing.
Tuesday morning, I go to connect to SSH and I can't get in. The NAT translation is still in place on the firewall, but there is no connection to the NIC/eth0 from the router. This is what I've had my coworker run:

I was going to try and have her run the /sbin/mii-tool eth0 tomorrow a.m. just to verify that the interface isn't physically bad? But this is a brand new desktop, and I can't for the life of me understand why this interface went down. I also have the internal IP on a DHCP reservation, which is the same IP listed in IPADDR in the ifcfg-eth0 file - could this be a problem? should I remove the DHCP reservation? I did this so I could SSH to a public IP which I have NAT'd back to the internal 10.0.x.x address I had my coworker take a look at the GUI, and the eth0 properties are "inactive" and the "Activate|Deactivate" buttons are greyed out.I suppose I can have my coworker grab the /var/log/messages and copy to a USB drive, then email me that from another workstation.
Our F14 server is looses access to the network once we set a static IP.The same IP, if used on any other pc works fine.We had the same exact setup in our F10 server also.

How to do this settings right to work fine, the ip are assigned by dhcp I don't use any static ip .When I try to browse the internet from the other computers some site's like {.com ; .org ; .info} are block, other site from {.ro} are working. Someone tell me something about turn off all my filters, but I don't know where to find this filter to turn it off. And when I use samba I can't have and internet access or vice versa. I have Fedora 12 (Fedora-12-i686-Live.iso) installed and booting in a VMWare workstation (version 6.5.3). I am able to login as the LiveUser.
I need information on how to access the drives on my host which is WindowsXP. My C: on the host is shared, and my network adapter for the VM is "NAT".
The only directory listed in my /mnt directory is "live".
My Fedora enviornment is "bare bones". There is nothing installed except for the original files from the "iso" loading procedure.
I also have been unable to get the VMWare tools installed, and I don't know if this is related. I don't mind bypassing this if this isn't required. My only desire right now is to access my C:

In Nautilus, if I choose the 'Browse Network' option on the left toolbar, I am shown a Windows Network icon. If I try to double click this, I am given an "Unable to mount location" error. Does anyone know why this is and how to fix it? Further, where is the GNOME 3 option to right click and choose to share a folder? Both KDE 4.5/4.6 and older versions of GNOME (at least on Ubuntu) had this. Is there a way to share files this way, and if not, is there some workaround?

(We have multiple Windows machines on my network, all in the same workgroup.) I also recently bought Avast anti-virus, and I think I have enabled the IP range of all computers to enable communication. I wonder if a media router has different needs than just the regular router I used to use. My samba file is minimal, I will post an example. View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a linux domain (FEDORA CORE 1) and two laptop's which are part of my domain with windows xp pro service pack 2.I have given two ip's to both the laptop's being primary as global and secondary as local.I have configured printer in one laptop and shared.Till last week i was accessing that shared printer from my other laptop and every thing was working fine.Last week i formatted one laptop,(which dose not have shared printer) from then onwards i am not able to access my other laptop. I get the following message when i try to accessmy other Laptop,"you might not have permission to use this network resource. contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permission there are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request"P.S : If i have only local IP i am able to see both the systems and i am able to access my printer, this problem comes only when i add global IP to both the machines.And also i have stopped the firewall and other things.
