I'm also new with linux i tried ubuntu and mandriva, and they worked fine out of the box.But I wanted to try Fedora because it looks great to my opinion. After installing it, everything worked fine, so I updated the system, and after the update my internet doesn't connect anymore, but it does see my wlan ssid. but it just keeps on asking my wpa key.... everytime.
I have installed qemu/kvm and created a Bridged network connection which works just fine(Windows 7 VM won't work in NAT mode.)
But when I try to use NetworkManager it says that I have no network connection because the network isn't managed, (I set the settings in ifcfg-br0 and ifcfg-eth0 to be managed)
The real problem is that now I can't use my VPN connections (I have many) in NetworkManager.
Is there a way to have both of these pieces of functionality?
I have somehow made 2 internet connections on my fedora 10. one is system default, which doesn't work. so I usually login and select from the top panel to the other working one. how to choose it from a terminal? then I can do it from a remote terminal.
Suddenly, for no reason apparent to me, on initial logon I don' t have an eth0 connection. I click on the Network Manager icon in the tray, and connect that way. But it would be nice if it connected automagically. How do I fix network to connect on 1st logon?
i have no problem with DHCP Internet conection, when i set up to manual and manually imput an IP ADDRESS-NETMASK-GATEWAY y get local red but not Internet. Im i missing something, i cant find a guide for dummies.
I need to setup an Ubuntu Server to handle backups over the network (probably rsync over ssh). That server will then transfer the backup data offsite over a secondary external data line. How can I configure the ethernet interfaces to handle such a scenario?
After an update this week I noticed some strange things with the network. 1. The network connection doesn't activate itself automaticaly. Have to do it every time when booted up. 2. At the taskbar icon the previously "Auto eth0" changed to "System eth0". I guess this is kind of connected to the first issue 3. I can't connect anymore to the windows network -Times out (also worked fine before) How to set it up to the "old" way?
I recently switched from ubuntu to fedora and had a script to mount and umount sshfs when the network changed states. I placed the scripts in /etc/network/if-up.d/ and /etc/network/if-down.d/ and they were run any time the network went up or down. The closest thing I've been able to find is editing the ifup and ifdown scripts in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripting/, but that looks like it would be broken after an update. I'd also rather not use a script with ping because that wouldn't work well when the network goes up and down several times.I've been looking for a while and haven't been able to find a method similar to debian on fedora. Is there something I overlooked?
I'm trying to share internet connection with my wifi capable mobile device. For that I'm creating ad-hoc wifi connection in networkmanager with 'shared to other computers' ipv4 option. And there is the problem - the device cannot get the setting via DHCP. The firewall is adjusted properly by NM, dnsmasq is started. I've looked at dnsmasq arguments string and found that the temporary config file which is provided by NM is empty. So, where else should I look for a possible reason or should I just post a NM bug?
I initially loaded Fedora 14 onto a Desktop and started to configure it to be a server but as soon as Iso software updates My network connection completely drops.
Fresh install of Fedora 14 from Live cd.Used it for an hour or so, d-loaded some programs, had ti all running great. Wired connection to internet. Had the Network Connection Manager icon in panel. There was an icon saying new updates, alot of them, like 400 or so. Told it to go ahead and up date, left room. Came back hour later was done, said it needed to re boot, so I did. From then on, no internet, not icon, no Network Connection in the drop down list for preferences.
What I have tried:Worked off live cd, again, all works fine, icon, manager, internet all there. In installed version: In terminal, typed service Network Manager, it said unrecognized service.Did yum install network manager. It started to do it, but looked like it was trying to get stuff off mirrors, and of course there is no internet access. error PYCURJ ERROR 6.Of course I can re install, but I figure I will just end up in the same place a few hours from now.
Wifi network operated perfectly with f13. Upgrading f13 to f14 did not show any problems except for networking. It seems that the wlan0-link is not ready. Consequently no network information about adresses can be obtained. Tried with network tools to activate wlan0. No reaction Tried to deactivate Networkmanager and bring network up with
service NetworkManager stop ifconfig -a Then ifconfig wlan0 up dhclient wlan0
No reaction on network. The NetworkManager icon disappears which is understandable.
I've installed F10 on my laptop since few days and I'm facing an annoying networking issue: the network connection seems to work well when, suddently, it goes down for a while, and then come back. This happens with both wired and wireless (Intel PRO/ Wireless 3945ABG) connection.
I have installed recently the Fedora 8 in a computer and during installation it was set a static IP with the netmask and gateway. At first it worked well, but after some boots the connection begins to fail. It seems that the network-manager withdraws the static IP and tries to get connection via DHCP. Below is the /var/log/messages file during the failed connection:
Code: Sep 19 10:36:53 canario avahi-daemon[1695]: Interface eth0.IPv4 no longer relevant for mDNS. Sep 19 10:36:53 canario avahi-daemon[1695]: Withdrawing address record for fe80::20d:87ff:fe0c:355f on eth0. I have updated the system this morning and the vpn stopped working! It gives me an error: invalid secrets.I use network manager to connect to a pptp vpn connection, I use fedora 12.Does anyone know the problem?
everything was excellent till yesterday evening but from the evening, when i switched on my pc, the Network Connections icon is missing from the panel of my fedora 12 os. i'm being able to connect to internet from Systems->Preferences->Network connections & check Connect Automatically to my Mobile broadband connection. but i'm not being able to disconnect it. i've to remove the mobile phone from my pc.please put some light on how will I be able to disconnect it (without removing the phone)?
Just replaced a working install of Ubuntu because i like GS over unity but i cant get my USB760 EVDO card to work. The usual fix of editing the cd.rules file and copying some information into modem.fdi does not seem to work on F15..
Also, noticed that when i attempt to create a broadband connection using network manager it allows me to go through all of the setup dialogs, but never actually adds the broadband connection.
I was on my wireless network when I accidently switched on "airplane mode". Several reboots later and I can't get back onto my network. It keeps prompting for a password, even though it's the correct password. I've booted into Mac OSX & Windows on the same laptop and they connect no problems.
How can I delete the network connection to take it from the top again ? You used to be able to right click on the network connection in F14, select "edit connections" and then delete anything that was offending. That seems to have been removed now though ? Where is it stored and where can I kill it ?
I changed the network setting and caused a problem of wireless network. After I completely reinstall the OS of Fedora 13, the wireless network is still incorrect for connection to router.
I have 2 workstations that I'm trying to network together so that I can backup each to the other. One is XP sp2 and the other Fedora 9. Since installing Samba on the Fedora box and trying to get it configured, I have a problem that Add/remove programs won't do installs because it says there's no connection to a network. Network Manager says there aren't any connections, but it worked before the Samba install. Mozilla and Thunderbird can access the internet OK. Both workstations are connected by cable to my router and thus to my ISP (DNS server).
Two questions:- where can I find hints on setting up a wired connection (which card's MAC address does it want? router or wrkstn?) and Am I right that Add/remove is stuffed because of Network Manager?I now have Samba working from Linux to XP, but still can't get into Linux from XP. I tried the Linux PC's MAC address and set up a wired connection in Network Manager. NM still thinks there isn't one...
I recently installed fedora 15 on my computer but I have a huge problem. I can connect to my router wirelessly for a couple of minutes only. Afterwards my computer has no Internet connection although the network manager and the icon on the upper bar says that i am still connected. I tried editing the /etc/rc.local and /etc/resolv.conf as mentioned in other posts in here bit no luck so far.
Its a case of ".... wireless network connection active but still not internet connection .."I am using WEP - 128 key ... Works when I connect directly using ethernet cable ... but not wireless (pci and wireless router)
I'm having a bizarre problem where my network connection stops working randomly. At first I thought it was a DNS issue since Firefox simply chilled out on "Looking up [hostname]" until it timed out, but after further investigation (pinging IP's, "host" and "dig" being unable to reach servers) it became apparent that I couldn't even access the DNS servers i.e. the Wicked Connection of the East was most sincerely dead.
There are two strange things about this: one, there are no errors except "timeout". The network manager is happy, Firefox is happy until the lookup fails... Two, the failures only start *after* DHCP configuration. DHCP configuration never has any trouble sending or receiving packets. I'm going to try static IP and whatnot to see if that helps, more information later.
I have a pppoe adsl connection. When I disconnect and try to reconnect, network-manager keeps asking for my password. I type it again and again with no success. When I reboot, it works again. On ubuntu, I use pppoeconf and it works well. So on Fedora I made a connection with pppoe-setup but neither ifup nor Code:
pppoe-connect commands work. When I type Code: pppoe-connect , it says Code: /usr/sbin/adsl-start: line 217: 13409 Terminated $CONNECT "$@" > /dev/null 2>&1 . When I type
Ifup ppp0 doesn't work either. However, with exactly the same settings, ubuntu connects to the internet.
I installed the driver for my network card. iwconfig and ifconfig are all responsive to connecting to the network, I'm given an access point address. Then, I try to connect to a website and no dice. ping www.google.com yields no result. What gives?
I am losing network bandwidth and I am quite frankly I am not sure why, I don't have allot memory 495.6Mib
But I clean my PC every few days "BleachBit"
I have read some where on the magazine Network receiving suppose to be higher. so how can I fix this issue please i am having allot problems, u use cable from Comcast
I am not quite sure what Information you might need from me to give.
I have a Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5721 network card on my server at work.Everything works fine for a few weeks, then randomly the network connection on the server will stop working. After it stops working, I will try to reconnect with the network manager, it shows a wired connection available, it shows the "connection in progress"animation, then the "connection disabled" icon.
I uninstalled the network manager and used manual configuration, but do you think the network manager was the issue? I can't have the server disconnecting randomly every few weeks with no way to know what the real problem is. Was there an issue with the network manager with 10.04?
I have 2 computer: 1 computer install ubuntu v9.10, in this computer already installed openssh-server and openssh-client, and 1 computer install windows. In computer with windows , i used putty connect to computer with ubuntu, but i can't connect. I don't understand what's error. In the Putty , i configured: IP : IP address of computer Ubuntu. Port 22 Connection Type SSH
This is error: "Network Error: Software caused connection abort"
In computer with windows, i can ping computer with ubuntu and in computer with ubuntu i can ping computer with windows.
I am trying to Setup citrix ICA client 9 on Ubuntu 9.04 Server. I installed it very easily and I am not getting any lib error also. But when I try to connect to the citrix server, it fails with a pop up saying "Error in Network Connection Network or Dialup connection may be preventing ......" This is driving me crazy from 3 days. My project is to check the feasiblity of a Linux desktop
I have the "Work Offline" problem: when I boot up, the icon on the toolbar tells me I have "No network connection". This is not quite true, since I can access the first page of any website - only subsequent pages are inaccessible. I get a message saying that Firefox is offline. However, when I uncheck "Work Offline" in the File menu, it makes no difference to this behavior.
The problem is on my Ubuntu Dell desktop, which is connected to the internet with cable broadband via a D-Link router (wired connection). It has worked fine up till now. I use Ubuntu 10.04 and Firefox 3.6.11. I am writing this on my Ubuntu Dell laptop which is wired to the same router, so I assume the problem is not the router. I have tried various strategies suggested in threads on these forums, including editing about:config, changing "allow" to "deny" in some lines of /etc/dbus-1/system.d/NetworkManager.conf and changing from Automatic (DHCP) to Automatic (DHCP) Addresses only, but no luck so far. The contents of ifconfig are:
If I comment out "auto eth0" as well, it makes no difference. If I uncomment both lines ("auto eth0" and "iface eth0 inet dhcp") then I lose the internet connection altogether.
