Fedora Networking :: Novatel Ovation U720 Native In FC11?

Aug 28, 2009

Finally, my mobile broadband is native to Fedora. Just finished clean install of FC11 and it found the device, started it, and it works, just like it did in WIndows. ZeroConfig FTW! Great job Fedora team on this. FC10 it didn't work at all and FC6, 7, and 8 it took a lot of tinkering to make it fully functional. Also, NM is working MUCH better now with static IPs over the previous FC10 version. Set it up first run and had no issues with running my laptop on the network.

Networking :: Dealing With The Novatel USB760 Internal CD

Apr 18, 2011

I am using Ubuntu 10.04 and trying to get a Novatel USB760 to work. Initially,it is detected as a CD rather than a modem. So, I wrote a udev rule to eject it and that worked, but sometimes the CD comes back and remounts itself and then kicks the modem off and the connection dies. I tried various ways to fix this, but no luck. Finally, I just deleted all the cd files in the /etc/udev/rules.d and the /lib/udev/rules.d (if you don't delete these, udev recreates the files in /etc/udev/rules.d). That does work and now the cd reports hardware errors and does not mount and the modem works as it should.

Now, this works on the device that does not and never will have a CD or DVD attached to it, but on my laptop I don't want to do that as I would not have access to my DVD drive. Does anyone know of a way to make the udev rules ignore specific hardware and not try to create mounts or symbolic links for those devices. Ideally, I would like to blacklist the novatel CD part and not the modem, but I am unsure how or if this is possible.

Ubuntu Networking :: Auto Dial Kppp And Novatel 760 Broadband?

I have a Novatel 760 broadband USB device and I use kppp to connect though it is extremely slow (ping takes 100ms). What I need is a way to make kppp connect on reboot without any interaction from the user. I have looked on the Internet, but I did not find anything useful. I am using kppp because I could not get gnome-ppp to connect and it does not seem to have the features of kppp.

Fedora Networking :: USB Modem Not Connecting In FC11 X64?

Jan 23, 2010

The problem is that when I connect my phone to my machine FC11 x64 via USB and use the phone as a modem NetworkManager does not recognise the phone as a modem. The phone works well on my laptop which is FC11 32bit system, NetworkManager detects it and sets it up as eth2 and away I go, no problems at all. I would like to ask the community how can I go fault finding to find out why it does not work. #lsusb shows that the modem is being detected by the system but beyond this I don't know where to look and get things going.

Fedora Networking :: Fc11: Broadcom BCM4322 Can't Authenticate

Jul 15, 2009

I can't get my Broadcoam BCM4322 to connect to a protected access point. I've tried the drivers from rpmfusion, and tried to build the module with the source+binary package from Broadcom, all with no luck. The failure seems to happen during the WPA negotiation.

I haven't tried connecting to an unsecured WiFi access point.

When booting this same laptop to Kubuntu 9.04, it can connect to secured, so it is possible under linux.

Here's output from lspci, and the tail of the log while KNetworkManager is trying to connect the device.

Fedora Networking :: FC11 Not Auto Detecting Ethernet Interface

On FC10, when system boots up, it would auto detect (from DHCP) and configure eth0.

This does not happen on FC11, but I can manually configure the interface. The entries in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 are identical on both OS releases.

Don't know if this is related, but when I run System->Administration->Bootloader, it fails system-config-boot - missing module kudzu.

Fedora Networking :: Wireless Suddenly Stopped Working - FC11?

Sep 23, 2009

A few days ago (september 7) my wireless suddenly stopped working. I am using FC11, and have an Atheros AR5211 wireless card and have been using the ath5k driver with GNOME NetworkManager. Wireless networks are detected by NM perfectly fine. When I try to connect, the icon spins around those two dots, and one of them becomes green. If the network is wep protected, it asks for the password. After a while, it times out, regardless of the protection. I don't remember changing pretty much for the last two months, so I'm sort of surprised. I did download and install a kernal, along with an selinux-policy update.

If I run dmesg, relevant looking lines included:

ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready
and a long series of these at the end:
wlan0: direct probe to AP 00:0b:86:4f:8a:20 try 1
wlan0: direct probe to AP 00:0b:86:4f:8a:20 try 1

Note: I previously posted this in "Laptops," but Networking seemed like a better place to do it.

Fedora Networking :: Wireless Stopped Working After Upgrade To FC11?

Jan 12, 2010

I have a Broadcom wireless card in my hp dv6500z laptop, I had it all working properly in FC9 thanks to bbfuller and his post on the subject. After I upgraded to FC11 I have been unable to get it to connect.

I can see my neighbor's sites and suppose I could see my own if the SSID was allowed to broadcast but I keep that turned off. I put in all of the setting, including the network security key, but it won't connect, then when I go back and look again, the security key is not even close to what I put in; it gets changed to a huge string of characters.

I redownloaded broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5.tar.bz2.tar and followed the instruction on the post once again but no luck, which, after I thought about it, was a waste of time because if I can see other's wireless, then the card must be working. I have tried using Network Manager and not using Network Manager and still no luck...

Ubuntu Networking :: Ndiswrapper Only Works When Load And Unload The Native Drivers First

Jan 5, 2010

I recently received a used laptop that I was going to use for my kids, a Compaq Presario 2100. Everything went fine on the install, however I could not get the WiFi to work. The internal card, a Broadcom BCM4306, was attempting to use the b43legacy drivers, which I understand to be the native driver for this card, but would get all sorts of strange errors in 'dmesg', and would never get a solid connection.

After fiddling with this for 2 days, and reading countless troubleshooting guides, I finally gave up and decided to get it working with ndiswrapper. Everything worked perfect, except I can only get it to work if I first load b43legacy, then load ndiswrapper, then unload b43legacy. If I blacklist b43legacy, and just load ndiswrapper, iwconfig does not report a wlan0.

I ran across this posting, and decided to try this, but it also did not work. Plus, with this file in place, any attempt to use modprobe would complain about every line of that file.

Ubuntu Networking :: Loading Native Drivers For Realtek Wireless Adapter?

Feb 12, 2011

Just made the jump to Ubuntu, and until this install I considered myself very tech savvy. Now not so much! Built my new desktop, loaded Ubuntu 64 bit no problem. But I'm having a terrible time figuring out how to load the native driver for my realtek wireless adapter. I successfully un-tarred the file, and used the terminal to run the make command by using cd command to navigate to the file. It returned a wall of text, and in my mind looked to work. Next I go to run "./clean" in the same file location in the terminal and it returns:

"ERROR: Module r8192s_usb does not exist in /proc/modules
ERROR: Module ieee80211_rsl does not exist in /proc/modules
ERROR: Module ieee80211_crypt_ccmp does not exist in /proc/modules
ERROR: Module ieee80211_crypt_tkip does not exist in /proc/modules
ERROR: Module ieee80211_crypt_wep does not exist in /proc/modules
ERROR: Module ieee80211_crypt does not exist in /proc/modules

Not completely sure if this is an issue, I try moving to the next step of instructions issuing the command "insmod 8712u.ko" in the terminal same file location and get the error message
insmod: error inserting '8712u.ko': -1 Operation not permitted
I've tried running "sudo insmod 8712u.ko" from both that file directory, and from my home file directory. My guess is I'm missing a step or need to be typing these commands in a different file directory in the terminal.

Networking :: FC11 - DNS Stopped Working By Itself?

Nov 11, 2010

I switched my FC11 system off yesterday. Turning it on this morning, NO domain names can be resolved anymore.I can ping IP adresses directly, and even get to them in FireFox if I type the IP address. However, typing any domain name at all fails. I cannot ping or SSH to any domain name, but as soon as I enter an IP, it works. I can ping the DNS server by IP that is set in my /etc/resolv.confI checked on an XP system using the same DNS server set in /etc/resolv.conf (which can also be pinged on IP from my FC11 system), on the same connection from the same ISP, and it works.E. g. without touching anything at all (and all updates are turned off) my FC11 system has stopped resolving domain names.I'm running 32bit FC11. The system has been working fine for more than 2 years. So it has spontaneously stopped doing DNS when I enter a domain name. Where can I start looking?
