My networkmanager understands that the card is installed. But it can not find any network. Also iwlist scan gives me no result. I did not have this problem on earlier fedora releases. Recently I upgraded to F12 from F11. I should mention that I have another USB DLink wireless card and when I plug it, everything works fine with that card. I also tested wl_apsta driver using fw-cutter. I did not work neither.
Ubuntu in Windows 7 (64 bits) File system installed using Wubi I got Ubuntu 10.04 LTS intalled using Wubi. That means Ubuntu resides inside Windows file / folder system. It also means Ubuntu does not have its own partition. Here is what I found out:
1) It cannot detect wireless network unlike Win 7 on this same laptop. However, when I plug in ethernet cable, it was able to detect it. Is there a fix this problem?
2) I cannot see Windows folders. How do access windows folder from Ubuntu side and vice versa?
3) I forgot to set the disk space for Ubuntu during install and I think the default is 17 GB.Would this cause me problems? If so, what do I need to do? How do I expand the disk space for Ubuntu?

To find the appropriate firmware without knowing the make or brand of your wireless chip, you can use the command:
#fw-detect
But apparently debian package do not offer this useful tool, well, certainly for sidux exclusively.
Is there a package of fw-detect eventually?

A problem with kppp. It will not detect modem after a fresh install. It did last week before Ubuntu 11.04 turned up its toes, but when it worked it was weird. It found the usb modem on /dev/ACM0 as user but /dev/usb/ACM0 if logged in as root. Now it will not open modem at all. Gnome ppp has no problem and wvdial correctly identifies it.

I just got myself a Dell Inspiron 1440. And decided to install my favorite distro Debian. I got the installation to go with no issue and all seems to be working fine. However the wireless isn't working. NetworkManager doesnt even detect a wireless card. I followed the instructions here and installed the b43-fwcutter and then issued the modprobe b43 and modprobe b43legacy commands. Then I issued the iwconfig command and this was the output.

Except this little bit that has me bogged down. I am trying to get my HS2300 HSDPA wireless modem to work, but I am a little stuck here.
I found a post that I should get the HP-WMI module to load. That was a post on an older kernel and this guy mentioned that is should be included in newer versions of the kernel.
Modprobe did not deliver any results, however an "lsmod |grep wmi" delivered the following:

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using Ubuntu 10.04 and trying to get a Novatel USB760 to work. Initially,it is detected as a CD rather than a modem. So, I wrote a udev rule to eject it and that worked, but sometimes the CD comes back and remounts itself and then kicks the modem off and the connection dies. I tried various ways to fix this, but no luck. Finally, I just deleted all the cd files in the /etc/udev/rules.d and the /lib/udev/rules.d (if you don't delete these, udev recreates the files in /etc/udev/rules.d). That does work and now the cd reports hardware errors and does not mount and the modem works as it should.
Now, this works on the device that does not and never will have a CD or DVD attached to it, but on my laptop I don't want to do that as I would not have access to my DVD drive. Does anyone know of a way to make the udev rules ignore specific hardware and not try to create mounts or symbolic links for those devices. Ideally, I would like to blacklist the novatel CD part and not the modem, but I am unsure how or if this is possible.
I am running FC11 and I recently purchased an internet stick from Bell Canada.I have searched/googled and searched again for setup help, to no avail.When, I insert the USB Internet stick, it shows up on my computer as a MMC storage device.FYI, the light on the Stick is green, which would indicate all systems go, but it simply won't connect.
View 3 Replies View RelatedFinally, my mobile broadband is native to Fedora. Just finished clean install of FC11 and it found the device, started it, and it works, just like it did in WIndows. ZeroConfig FTW! Great job Fedora team on this. FC10 it didn't work at all and FC6, 7, and 8 it took a lot of tinkering to make it fully functional.Also, NM is working MUCH better now with static IPs over the previous FC10 version. Set it up first run and had no issues with running my laptop on the network.

What I need is a way to make kppp connect on reboot without any interaction from the user. I have looked on the Internet, but I did not find anything useful. I am using kppp because I could not get gnome-ppp to connect and it does not seem to have the features of kppp.

At the start up screen where I choose the OS, I choose Ubuntu & it loads fine. Everything looks perfect except that it won't connect to or detect any wireless connections. I have tried clicking the Network Manager icon & clicking New Connection. I typed in the SSID & security key for my wireless connection/router & after I hit create, a small window pops up saying "Wireless Disconnected: you are now working offline" or something like that.
