View 5 RepliesI am using Ubuntu 10.04 and trying to get a Novatel USB760 to work. Initially,it is detected as a CD rather than a modem. So, I wrote a udev rule to eject it and that worked, but sometimes the CD comes back and remounts itself and then kicks the modem off and the connection dies. I tried various ways to fix this, but no luck. Finally, I just deleted all the cd files in the /etc/udev/rules.d and the /lib/udev/rules.d (if you don't delete these, udev recreates the files in /etc/udev/rules.d). That does work and now the cd reports hardware errors and does not mount and the modem works as it should.
Now, this works on the device that does not and never will have a CD or DVD attached to it, but on my laptop I don't want to do that as I would not have access to my DVD drive. Does anyone know of a way to make the udev rules ignore specific hardware and not try to create mounts or symbolic links for those devices. Ideally, I would like to blacklist the novatel CD part and not the modem, but I am unsure how or if this is possible.
I use modem novatel wireless ovation mc935d. when i try to use lsusb, my modem is detected. but when in network configuration manager is'not detected.

I think I have configured GLink usb modem so far. But when I run wvdial command, I got the following. But I can not browse the internet. Other problem is when I try to use Gnome PPP dialer, it could not connect. Modem type is listed as ttyS0 and so on while I have setting in wvdial.conf ttyUSB0 so it does not support.
chitra@chitra:~$ sudo wvdial

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using a 'ice.net' D-50 (CDMA EV-DO rev A) mobile broadband USB modem, also sold as Cmotech CNU-680 in other areas. The modem is connected to a USB port on a hp8710w mobile workstation.
As the 11.2 Gnome Network Manager won't connect this modem to Internet (see my first post here), I have downloaded and installed a 'D50 Modem Manager program' from [url]
After unpacking and installing this cmotech-qtmodem-1.6-1.i586.rpm package for suse on 11.2 x86_64, the gui application 'D-50 Modem Manager' is found in the Internet Group.
However, neither this program does connect the D-50 modem really on 11.2 x86_64 (as it did on 11.1 x86_64). Tried both traditional network setup and with Network Manager.
Any idea and suggestion how to trobleshoot this further? I think I've seen that a newer version cmotech-qtmodem 1.9 has been mentioned on the web, but without being able to find and download this version.
Command output as follows:
As normal user:
On the Modem Manager gui: D-50 modem is ready
From Login script Debug window:
As root:
It seemed like the modem connected, but Firefox was not able to connect afterwards (Server not found)

I am running FC11 and I recently purchased an internet stick from Bell Canada.I have searched/googled and searched again for setup help, to no avail. When, I insert the USB Internet stick, it shows up on my computer as a MMC storage device.FYI, the light on the Stick is green, which would indicate all systems go, but it simply won't connect.
View 3 Replies View RelatedFinally, my mobile broadband is native to Fedora. Just finished clean install of FC11 and it found the device, started it, and it works, just like it did in WIndows. ZeroConfig FTW! Great job Fedora team on this. FC10 it didn't work at all and FC6, 7, and 8 it took a lot of tinkering to make it fully functional. Also, NM is working MUCH better now with static IPs over the previous FC10 version. Set it up first run and had no issues with running my laptop on the network.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Novatel 760 broadband USB device and I use kppp to connect though it is extremely slow (ping takes 100ms). What I need is a way to make kppp connect on reboot without any interaction from the user. I have looked on the Internet, but I did not find anything useful. I am using kppp because I could not get gnome-ppp to connect and it does not seem to have the features of kppp.
View 1 Replies View RelatedA couple of months ago, I replaced a broken down modem for my DSL connection. I've learned time and again that Verizon is completely of no help to Linux customers, and so any problems I ever experience, I''m pretty much on my own. These days, I am running no windows whatsoever. Previously, when I got a new modem I would run verizon's windows software to set up the modem for DHCP, and then any distro I chose to run wo0uld connect automatically.
Well, without the ability to run windows, it's a lot more problematic. I have only managed to get some debian-based distros online by running an application called pppoeconf or pppoe-config. No slackware, and since a few months ago I released my own live CD that's based on Slax, this is embarassing and frustrating to say the least. DNS, pppoe, TCP/IP... this is not my thing.
Now I've got Slackware 13 installed, and I've been running netconfig and pppoe-setup, and according to the results I get when I run pppoe-status, I should be online :
And here is where I was supposed to have posted the results of my non-error messsage, but I don't seem to have saved it from the last time I was loggen into slackware. Looks like I'll have to do it again
I'm currently trying to get my Option 0505 3G modem to work in Slackware 13.1.My Problem is that when I plug the device in no /dev/ttyUSBX appears.I're read quite a few threads as to connect these modems, but none seems to cover my problems. This is my dmesg after plugging in:
PHP Code:

usb 1-1: New USB device found, idVendor=0af0, idProduct=d055

When I installed Slackware it configured it by the way I was originally connecting to the internet by. Which was corded to the router. I want to just connect directly to the modem but don't know the steps to make it work correctly.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm using a Verizon/Nortel USB760 wireless modem (worker just fine in 13.0, got problems in 13.1). Using KPPP, I connect to the service, waltz around reading mail, news and LQ then disconnect and close KPPP. I let it sit for any length of time then open KPPP, connect and it can see the modem, attempts to initialize it and it just sits there - I have to unplug the modem and reconnect it to get it going again. /var/log/messages doesn't give any hints (everything looks normal I think) and nothing else does either -- the indicate light on the modem stays green and all that. I've tried ejecting it (nope) and whatever else I can thing of (which ain't much) including reviewing Changes and Hints, READMEs and all.
Is there some setting I may have missed or a USB rule or do I need to poke the thing somehow to get it going? USB-Modeswitch automagically figures out what the device is and does its settings (so there's no "conf" file any more - unless I really missed something there).

View 13 Replies View RelatedI have a zyxel dsl (usb) moden, which needs a firmware portion to work, called cxacru-fw.bin.
I have been using this modem using with at least two different slackware distributions, even when the atm drivers were not included in the kernel.
Presently I am using slackware 13.0, with the vmlinuz-huge-smp-2.6.29.6-smp kernel.
I downlowded the 2.6.34 kernel, because I need it for a new webcam, compiled and installed it, and oops! the modem does not work anymore.
I am pretty sure I have configured the kernel correctly; dmesg tells me the modem is recognized by the kernel, as it is with the previous one, but the firmware is not loaded, because the DSL led remains off.
I attach the kernel configuration lines:
I have tried forcing the kernel to load the firmware, using but it didn't work either.
I installed today Slackware64-current on my laptop, but I can't get working internet connection. I have installed wvstreams 4.61 and wvdial 1.61, configured it right, it gets an IP address and connection but I can't get an access to the internet.

Now that I'm able to connect to Internet via my MC760 wireless modem on /dev/ttyUSB0, I am losing time!
I have lost 5 minutes while online for 1/2 hr.
Yes ntpd is running. What is strange is that right now, I'm in town at coffee shop and using wireless. I'm not losing time at all. This isn't the first time I've noticed the loss of time. It's been happening every since I was able to connect with the usb modem. I just had to come to town and use wireless to see if the problem existed while on wireless (b43). While being connected via the MC760, I've also noticed that the cpu temp rises and the fan runs quite a bit more than when not connected via the MC760. Here is the top portion of output of "top" code...
I am currently running slackware 13.37 in virtualbox on my Dell 1558. I would really like to install it for real to my HDD to get the speed benefit. My only way to connect to the internet is via my internal Dell UMTS modem. Will this work after the install or do I need to take some precautions before the time and download the right apps files now while I have access?
