My brother installed Fedora 8 on my 2004 Dell Inspiron 1000 laptop with a 56k MDC modem. I cannot figure out how to get the dial modem to work! Modem Device?, Baud Rate?, Flow Control?, Modem Volume?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a creative modem blaster V.92 which I know works because I have used it on windows and ubuntu how ever I am having some problems with F11 it sounds like its dialing okay and the box pops up that says please wait when I try to connect via the network manager thing but thats all it does the box never goes away and I've looked at the modem lights thing I added to my panel and it says its not sending or receiving anything and firefox doesnt work so I am not sure what I am doing wrong here.
I got an error with the default settings so I switched the device to ttys0 and set the baudrate according to what wvdialconf said was okay which also wont connect for some reason it hangs too.. I am confused here. Has anyone successfully set up a dial up connection in fedora 11

Sometimes instead of "cpio: open" it was "cpio: rename". There were a total of 18 such errors. These were listed as failures in the summary at the end. I then did another "yum update" and it redid 17 of the 18 successfully. It did not redo f-spot. Here's a snippet of the summary at the end of the first update:

I'm trying to do something very old, but for me very necessary. I am trying to get dial in acces via a modem that is connected via a usb <-> serial converter. I am running F14. The serial port is OK. I can run minicom and access the modem and even interogate it. What I am unable to do is to get the computer to answer. Much has changed and I have not dealt with upstart and things like that (if indeed that is needed).
I believe I"m OK with 115200 communicating with the modem. I know the device is /dev/ttyUSB0.
Is ther someone who can fill in the blanks? Or, point me towards really good documentation that explains how to do this.

I fed the kernel commands, noapic , noioapic but that didn't work .
The problem is that when I connect my phone to my machine FC11 x64 via USB and use the phone as a modem NetworkManager does not recognise the phone as a modem. The phone works well on my laptop which is FC11 32bit system, NetworkManager detects it and sets it up as eth2 and away I go, no problems at all. I would like to ask the community how can I go fault finding to find out why it does not work. #lsusb shows that the modem is being detected by the system but beyond this I don't know where to look and get things going.

I have set the country code in the .dat file to 1 for channels 1-13 and selected channel 11 My netgear wg-614 wireless light has no activity.
Fresh install of FC11. Had to install libwvstreams-4.5.1-5.fc11.i586.rpm and wvdial-1.60-8.fc11.i586.rpm
Now get following error -
Probably there is bug in kernel used FC11 [url] This bug freeze computer after ping or other data sending over VPN connection.
Is there any chance to backport this patch to kernel in FC11?

Since I installed FC11 vpnc stop working. I get "vpnc: no response from target." I tried running it with "strace" and the reason is a timeout: poll([{fd=3, events=POLLIN}], 1, 4000) = 0 (Timeout)
I tried google and adding "NAT Traversal Mode cisco-udp" to the config file works for some people but not for me Does anyone had experience with vpnc 0.5.3 in FC11?
I can't get my Broadcoam BCM4322 to connect to a protected access point. I've tried the drivers from rpmfusion, and tried to build the module with the source+binary package from Broadcom, all with no luck. The failure seems to happen during the WPA negotiation.
I haven't tried connecting to an unsecured WiFi access point.
When booting this same laptop to Kubuntu 9.04, it can connect to secured, so it is possible under linux.

I'm trying to install my pci wireless card that uses bcm4318 technology. I installed ndiswrapper and the driver for the card. However, I still can't seem to get wirelessworking. I'm not sure what info you will need to help me diagnose this problem. Here is the output of ndiswrapper -l:

This does not happen on FC11, but I can manually configure the interface. The entries in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 are identical on both OS releases.
Don't know if this is related, but when I run System->Administration->Bootloader, it fails system-config-boot - missing module kudzu.
I have a problem with Netgear Wireless WG311v3 card and it is not listed in "ifconfig -a". Network Manager does not see the Netgear card either, just eth0 the onboard wired NIC. Here is the result of lspci.

i want to ask a question. sometimes i use a gprs modem to connect to the net. the gprs modem uses the usb port. i've connected this pc to another machine through crossover cable. the problem is that when there are two active connections, firefox can't load anything. also how can i share the gprs modem with my other pc that is connected via crossover?
PS. in my active network connections it shows:
eth0- the NIC
and auto eth1 - the gprs modem
i have also tried to change the firefox preferences but to no avail.
Both my computers run on FC11.
Finally, my mobile broadband is native to Fedora. Just finished clean install of FC11 and it found the device, started it, and it works, just like it did in WIndows. ZeroConfig FTW! Great job Fedora team on this. FC10 it didn't work at all and FC6, 7, and 8 it took a lot of tinkering to make it fully functional.Also, NM is working MUCH better now with static IPs over the previous FC10 version. Set it up first run and had no issues with running my laptop on the network.
View 6 Replies View RelatedA few days ago (september 7) my wireless suddenly stopped working. I am using FC11, and have an Atheros AR5211 wireless card and have been using the ath5k driver with GNOME NetworkManager. Wireless networks are detected by NM perfectly fine. When I try to connect, the icon spins around those two dots, and one of them becomes green. If the network is wep protected, it asks for the password. After a while, it times out, regardless of the protection. I don't remember changing pretty much for the last two months, so I'm sort of surprised. I did download and install a kernal, along with an selinux-policy update.
If I run dmesg, relevant looking lines included:
ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready
and a long series of these at the end:

I have a Broadcom wireless card in my hp dv6500z laptop, I had it all working properly in FC9 thanks to bbfuller and his post on the subject. After I upgraded to FC11 I have been unable to get it to connect.
I can see my neighbor's sites and suppose I could see my own if the SSID was allowed to broadcast but I keep that turned off. I put in all of the setting, including the network security key, but it won't connect, then when I go back and look again, the security key is not even close to what I put in; it gets changed to a huge string of characters.
I redownloaded broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5.tar.bz2.tar and followed the instruction on the post once again but no luck, which, after I thought about it, was a waste of time because if I can see other's wireless, then the card must be working. I have tried using Network Manager and not using Network Manager and still no luck...
I was coding some java. I had just finished setting everything up & everything was working fine so I kind of freaked out when I typed `javac hw.java`, and I received a weird error. I can't remember it exactly but from that point, I was not able to use any java-related command anymore. `javac`, `jar`, `java`.... I kept getting the same error. Something like "java runtine environement error", but it may not be that exactly. It kept creating .log files in my /home/maden/ folder, but as my topic title says, I can't reach the boot screen anymore ! I have no idea if the two problems are related but I think they are. When I got home, I restarted my ASUS eeepc 1005h and reached the KDE login screen anymore! I turn on my computer, it goes to the GRUB loader, I select fedora core 11... I then see the fedora fedora logo slowling filling up, as usual, and when the login screen is supposed to pop up, it does not. It just remains black. So now, I can't do ANYTHING, can't even login as failsafe or nothing, my data seems unreachable!

So I'm back to installing 10.04 - and up against the bizarre choice to drop dial-up networking! Fortunately, I have my 8.04 machine still live, and I've researched it extensively without success.

Ive been looking, and even tho dial up stinks, its better than nothing for me out here in the woods. I downloaded gnome-ppp. This should work for a linux friendly serial modem (US Robotics 9637 USB external)which is on the way.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having trouble getting online, and therefore getting software, codecs etc, (I'm using another computer for this post) because the only option I have to connect to the web is through 56k dial-up modem, and this is apparently akward with ubuntu. I'm currently trying to work out how to get Ubuntu to recognize my modem. I have over-written Vista, which was previously on my laptop, although I did make recovery discs (though I really don't want to have to use them).
This is making it difficult for me to even find the model of my modem (it would involve reinstalling Vista and checking for the device under device manager, or Vista equivalent).I was advised to download the "Official Ubuntu documentation", and that this had a 'how to' section regarding dial-up modems. I downloaded it and searched it and found nothing as such. I also have downloaded the Ubuntu pocket guide and found nothing on the topic in it either.I can get online (via dial-up) on my XP machine, and also have USB storage sticks.
I need to know if there is any dial up accelerators for Ubuntu. The ISP I need them for is Localnet.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using an external Huawei CDMA fixed wireless terminal (phone + dial-up modem). It connects to my PC via a USB port. Actually my PC recognizes it (after driver installation) as "TIUMP Serial Port". I guess the driver is a kind of USB adapter for a serial port.
I can't get it to work in ubuntu 9.10. I ran wvdial (after installing dependencies and wvdial package) and it doesn't recognize my device as a modem. Is there any solution to this problem? Without solving it, I won't be able to go online from ubuntu.
I've installed it and all went fine, now i want to set up a dial up connection witch i dont know how. I've tried going to system/adminstritive/networking but 'networking' isnt there.then i tyr gnome ppp but it says it cant detect a modem.
