I'm trying to install the Cisco VPN client on Ubuntu 11.04, kernel version 2.6.38-8 generic-pae. I need a step by step process since I am an absolute beginner with Ubuntu and this is my first install on the operating system. I have already tried the network manager but connection always fails. I have also tried the website [URL] but this always fails, seems this was made for earlier versions of Ubuntu and earlier kernel versions.
When I try to connect to my company's VPN using the Cisco VPN client, I get a kernel panic. Please don't suggest I should Cisco's client, it only works with Kernels older than 2.6.24 (I have 2.6.35).
So I use vpnc. The error message is:
Quote: $ sudo vpnc [sudo] password for phirt: Enter password for user@group@fubar.net: received notice of type (ISAKMP_N_NO_PROPOSAL_CHOSEN)(14), giving up vpnc: quick mode response rejected: (ISAKMP_N_INVALID_MESSAGE_ID)(9) this means the concentrator did not like what we had to offer. Possible reasons are:
I have got different clients with different SOHO routers on sites (Netgear , Linksys, SnapGear, etc.) All those clients use VPN IPSec . As you know that those routers has many entries :
Tunnel name key lifetime Preshared Secret Phase 1 proposal Phase 2 Proposal etc.
I am trying to familiarize myself to use different VPN clients (a piece of software ), that will be installed on clients, laptops to access their work network from home. I came across a problem with Cisco VPN client V5.0.06 I could not find all the above entries. I know Cisco devices are proprietary, does that mean cisco vpn client is not compatible with those router?
I attempted to install the new kernel 2.6.29.6-217.2.3.fc11 (x86-64) A depsolv message appears:
Quote:

I upgraded from fc10; there was a residue of four fc10 2.27 kernels in /lib/modules from my fc10->fc11 upgrade; I moved them to a new subdirectory /usr/oldmodules, but the yum update command still produces the same failure message.
I am a little optimistic now after my problem of wifi was solved by stoat that presisted for about a year, now i am trying to install my vpn client. he asks me to write the path of kernel source code directory : and i answer by:/lib/modules/2.6.26.8-57.fc8/build/
But he answers no such directory or file and i dont know why
The build is covered by a red box when displayed by a terminal so can any body tells me where i can find my kernel source directory or i should install them, how
Where do I obtain this? I have the i586 kernel and I need the i686 kernel to run VMware. I beleive this may be the pottential reason virtualbox wasn't working too.
Have blacklisted Nouveau in Modpobe... (Haven't done anything to grub.conf)... Have also tried to go the akmod route; but have never been able to make it work..
Have followed the instructions from Post 2 at the beginning of this thread; but I do get a message that says: "No package xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.x86_64 available". I do have both rpmfusion repositories downloaded..
I've just installed a vpnagent on my Slackware 12.2. A script running the vpnagent daemon is /etc/rc.d/init.d/vpnagent_init. My network is started with rc.inet1. The queston is at which point during the startup to run "vpnagent_init" script. I thought to add a call to rc.locale.
Cisco vpn client would freeze the system. The only way to recover is to do a hard reset. The funny thing is I had it working before, so it may be random. However, it just happened 3 times in a row and I haven't tried again. I'll try again tonight. I'm pretty sure I'm running the latest client for 64bit linux systems. I'll confirm that when I get a chance, as well as my kernel.
In order to gain access to my university network remotely I was asked to open a website that would act as a gateway. Upon opening the site I was asked to run a Java application, which installed a Cisco AnyConnect VPN client on the system. However, now I do not need this, but I cannot find a way to uninstall it. It does not appear in the Synaptic Manager or the the ubuntu Software centre, so I cannot find the package to uninstall it. The software does appear in the 'Internet' section in the Application drop down menu and runs without the need of Firefox. I read the Cisco release notes but I could not find a way to uninstall the software.
Well I right clicked on the icon on my desktop and by accident when I wanted to copy the command the starts the program i pasted something else on top of it! What I am trying to find out now is what the command is to make it work again. I got so far /opt/cisco/vpn/ but im missing the last part.
I am looking for a softphone that I can connect over a client VPN to my cisco uc520. It works great in windows. Does anyone know of one that works? Cisco doesn't seem to have one that runs in linux.
I am trying to install this vpn thing for school (I need to access some of my info). I seem to get to the installation part somehow but I keep getting this message
Making module make -C /lib/modules/2.6.31-17-generic/build SUBDIRS=/home/mblack3/Desktop/vpnclient modules make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.31-17-generic' CC [M] /home/mblack3/Desktop/vpnclient/linuxcniapi.o /home/mblack3/Desktop/vpnclient/linuxcniapi.c:12:26: error: linux/config.h: No such file or directory .....

Is using Cisco AnyConnect for ssl remote access, i loged on on my company vpn.abcd.com , using a username and a password, requested a certificate which was added to Firefox certificates, then installed the AnyConnect client. now i can just start the AnyConnect client to connect without the need to access to my company vpn.abcd.comWhat i want to do is to add a vpn connection to the network manager so its always connected once i powered my computer on, and dont need to start the AnyConnect client to get connected each time.
There were three options Password/SecurID, Certificate(TLS), Certificate(TLS) with TPM.I tried the first one, got a message "Unknown certificate from VPN server "vpn.abcd.com". Do you want to accept it?" , accepted entered my password ---> login failedThe other two options need a certificate files which i dont know how to get, is it the firefoxcertificate, or what ?.
Just wanted to ask a small question... I've set up a VPN connection to my university and i installed and configured everything ok, cause I can connect without any problems...
Now that I'm connected I want my browser to run through the VPN tunnel created by the connection so i can access certain sites that are else inaccessible, but how do i force my browser (I'm using firefox atm) to do that?
When I'm on MAC of Windows OS, as soon as i connect with a VPN, all connection run through them. Fedora seems to ignore the VPN connection and just continues to use my home-network to connect to the internet.
So the basic question is: how do i use the VPN connection.
Iuse FC10, kernel 2.6.27.21-170.2.56.fc10.i686, fully updated system
cisco vpn client 4.8.5 I have no problem to connect it, but got disconnected every minute after I opened a terminal and ssh to company's server. Not sure what's causing the problem. There's no problem to connect to windows.
The problem is that when I connect my phone to my machine FC11 x64 via USB and use the phone as a modem NetworkManager does not recognise the phone as a modem. The phone works well on my laptop which is FC11 32bit system, NetworkManager detects it and sets it up as eth2 and away I go, no problems at all. I would like to ask the community how can I go fault finding to find out why it does not work. #lsusb shows that the modem is being detected by the system but beyond this I don't know where to look and get things going.
I've got a sitecom usb wireless adapter that uses the RT2870 chipset.I have got the rt2870sta module and have a ra0 interfaceI can set up a connection in the network tool and it recognises the usb device fine.
Since I installed FC11 vpnc stop working. I get "vpnc: no response from target." I tried running it with "strace" and the reason is a timeout: poll([{fd=3, events=POLLIN}], 1, 4000) = 0 (Timeout)
I tried google and adding "NAT Traversal Mode cisco-udp" to the config file works for some people but not for me Does anyone had experience with vpnc 0.5.3 in FC11?
Trying to set up a modem connection under FC11, using the applet under System/Administration/Network/Add gives the following error:
Code:
Local variables in innermost frame: If the script is faulty, could you guide me through setting it up by hand? I am required to be away from my normal location for a few weeks starting Monday and need to keep in touch.
I can't get my Broadcoam BCM4322 to connect to a protected access point. I've tried the drivers from rpmfusion, and tried to build the module with the source+binary package from Broadcom, all with no luck. The failure seems to happen during the WPA negotiation.
I haven't tried connecting to an unsecured WiFi access point.
When booting this same laptop to Kubuntu 9.04, it can connect to secured, so it is possible under linux.
Here's output from lspci, and the tail of the log while KNetworkManager is trying to connect the device.
I'm trying to install my pci wireless card that uses bcm4318 technology. I installed ndiswrapper and the driver for the card. However, I still can't seem to get wirelessworking. I'm not sure what info you will need to help me diagnose this problem. Here is the output of ndiswrapper -l:
I know theres a thread for this for fc9 but thats probably kind of outdated now. So I am trying to set up a wireless connection for a pc in my bedroom and just want something that will work out of the box.
