I have just installed F12, and have a question. I like to activate windows by moving mouse pointer to it without the need to click in it. I can use System->Preference->Windows to set that. In F12, the Windows under Preference is gone. How do I change the "click to activate" into "point to activate"
View 2 RepliesI recall a partner in a CS class who changed my setup to focus a window on mouse over and that was really handy for programming with a ton of terminals open. I've seen Dwell Click under accessibility options, but that doesn't seem to do anything. I know that sometimes the GUI control applets have features undisabled that don't really do anything (i.e. WINS) if you don't have the right stuff installed. How do I get mouse over pretty much just simulate clicking the window.

Booted system, DSL connection not active. system => network configuration => devices => new => xDFSL connection reports "you have to install rp-pp0e. Not on installation disk. Without connection to my router, YUM can't be used; my windows 7 laptop does neither command line ssh or git in order to reach the fedora repository and of course Firefox can't (yet) do http access. Short of ordering the entire distro on DVDs, is there any way to activate my DSL link? (I have the entire 3.3 Gb .iso file and have been unsuccessful in creating a bootable DVD in Windows land.)

I cant get System/Administration/Network to activate my wireless card - when I click on the card, the activate/deactivate buttons are greyed out. Network manager sees the connection when I click on 'edit connections'. Which files do I need to edit to sort this out, or do I need to print here to help find a solution?

I am quite new in Linux and start trying by using Fedora. I installed Fedora 10 on an old PC. I installed once and Fedora 10 recognized my wireless USB finger. Well after some setting but I cannot recall teh exact details. Due to certain reasons, I have to re-install Fedora 10. However, this time the wireless device is not working (The system recognized it and the driver is working ok but not able to connect to the access point and I caanot find a place to check the available wireless network list. I used WEP password protection so need to see the network list and select the network for prompt of the password entry.)

View 2 Replies View RelatedLast night I let the automatic updating of packages ran on my Fedora 10 installation. It has been a few months since I ran the updating and so it took quite long. I did not monitor it closely so I am not sure which packages were updated. After the update was completed, when I restarted my computer it halted during the boot up process at the point when it was trying to mount the root file system. The error message is "mount: missing mount point".
I booted the computer using the F10 DVD and used the rescue mode to look into the /boot directory. The kernel that was booting by default was 2.6.27.25-170.2.72.fc10.x86_64.There were two older F10 kernels in /boot and so I tried booting with them. The boot process went further but I was still not able to boot up F10 successfully. There were many error messages about not being able to touch files in /var/lock/subsys as it is a read-only file system.
This one has been driving me nuts for some days now:My Gentoo box which is acting as an internet gateway has two point-to-point interfaces, ppp0 (PPPoE to my ISP) and ppp1 (PPTP VPN link to IPREDator). Packets from my local network are just routed through ppp0 and now the fun part starts: I want to MARK (netfilter...) all packets originating from one specific user on that box in order to use another routing table that will contain a default route via the ppp1 interface.Marking seems to work fine as does the second routing table. Have installed fedora core 10 [kernel 2.6.27.24-170.2.68.fc10.i686 on intel core 2 Duo machine all disks encrypted. When I try to obtain a terminal window from run level 5 (KDE desktop environment) I get a bouncy terminal icon that disappears after about 15-20 seconds. No terminal window. The only way to get a command line is to press ctrl-alt-F2 and return to runlevel 3. How do I get a functional command line in runlevel 5?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if there is any way to SSH from one computer to another and completely bypass a router or any other network infrastructure. The reason I ask is because my robot ( same one in this post ) often needs to change which wireless network it automatically connects to, however it is getting annoying to have to drag out a monitor and plug it in along with a keyboard and mouse every time this needs to happen. Instead I'd much rather just plug my laptop into the other computer, SSH in and change the network myself.
So I thought I would ask you kind people if this is possible. The robot's computer has unused ethernet and USB ports, and I'd like to use those if at all possible (and with linux, anything is possible! -- sorta). I thought about doing something with ad-hoc, but this would limit my range (in infrastructure mode I can control the thing anywhere there is internet), and is to be avoided.

I get two error messages and can't get past the point of partition assignment.

I've just installed Fedora 11 and have noticed some funkiness regarding "window and button sounds".
Here are my observations: (All found using "Sound Preferences")
If "Output Volume" (OV) is set to max, and "Alert Volume" (AV) is set to max, the "window and button sounds" (WABS) are very loud. This seems to be correct.
If I begin to move OV to a lower slider value, the WABS become quieter twice as fast as other sounds (such as ..... videos). However, all sounds seem to get quieter in some sort of inverse curve. (As opposed to the more normal linear fashion.) At about 50% level the WABS are non-existent and other sounds are way too quiet.
Now here's the funky thing. If I leave OV at full and begin to reduce AV, whenever a WABS is heard, the OV volume temporarily reduces to the AV level until the sound is finished.
And here's the uber funky thing: If I reduce OV by 25% and AV by 50% and an WABS occurs, the OV volume temporarily changes to a 75% reduced volume. This mathematical relationship remains true until the combined value is greater than 100% reduction, at which point the speaker icon temporarily shows a mute icon (small red "x") and no sound is heard. (This can be seen in "Sound Preferences" and the Gnome-Panel icon.)
Another thing I've noticed is the "Master" slider in "Advance Volume Control" hits rock bottom when the "Sound Preferences" slider is only at 50%. (The terminal based alsamixer has the same behaviour.)
On a positive note, enabling Japanese input was by far the easiest it has ever been on Linux, or even Windows. Awesome! Let's just hope this iBus thingy isn't too buggy... Nyuk, nyuk!
I'm not sure how to find out exactly what my sound chip might be, but it's some nVidia nForce2 doohickey.
