last night I updated Ubuntu 10.11 and then upgraded to 11.04. However, the upgrade did not work. I tried to reboot and cannot. I cannot get a flash screen or any Ubuntu window. That is the only OS on that desktop system. So, I attempted to install Fedora 14 -i386 DVD but also unsuccessful. How do I erase Ubuntu and start an fresh install of Fedora 14?

View 4 Replies View RelatedDuring my upgrade this fine afternoon, my system went into screensaver mode and would not bring up the security window. The window would flash for a very brief period and then disappear. I tried to enter the password to no avail. After 10 minutes of this, I gulped and re-booted. It seems to boot ok, but just like in the install, the login security window flashes and disappers. I have tried to type in the data with no luck. Does anyone have a work around? I am currently using my knoppix live disk until I can burn a deb live disk.

I have downloaded it to two different computers, then burned the images to two different blank CD's (different brands) and neither loads. Both only get as far as the Lubuntu menu, once ENTER is pressed at that point to load the LiveCD, a blank screen eventually appears with a flashing cursor at the upper left of the screen, that's it. They were both burned using the slowest burn speeds available.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm fairly decent Linux admin (ok, i've been paid to do it for the last 10 years now, maybe better than fair), however this problem has me stumped. Ever since i dist-upgraded to 10.10 playing flash videos longer than a minute will *sometimes* lock up my window manager. I am unable to click on other windows, or links in current window. If i open a terminal after starting the video i can still run commands in the terminal after its locked up, but not use the mouse in any form at all.
I can get to tty1 or any other console, kill flash, kill the browser, etc. Until i restart gdm or kdm it is still locked up however. I have tested with both kde and gnome. Tested with kdm and gdm. Tested with firefox and chrome (both use different installs of flash plugin - chrome brings its own). I created a new user on the system to test enviroment, no luck there. I eventually reinstalled yesterday with a fresh 10.10, and still I am having this problem. It *often* happens, but not always. Always on videos longer than about a minute at a guess, i have not timed it. Only ever happens on flash videos - ie ..... etc.
Did anybody tried installing the latest adobe flash named Square for amd64 systems? I was interested in knowing whether there is any improvement in the performance. I also want to know how to replace my existing 32 bit wrapper based flash on 64 bit browser and install this 64 bit flash.

What I want is my window controls to be on the right side of the window when the window is in full screen mode.
Also I've had an issue with the Unity dockbar glitching out. I can still click on the buttons (i.e. the logout button) but it displays like a nintendo game inserted crooked. Is there a way to 'restart' unity without log out/ log in?
Any one else experienced any glitches with unity auto hiding/showing?
I have asked for a video capturing software before but recommend a GOOD screen recorder where you can select the window/window size the axis and also a good editing software which will render/export into FULL 720p HD
View 2 Replies View RelatedIn GNOME Desktop, sometimes when I go to close a window with the X at the top right, I go a little too far and all open windows snap to a scaled grid so I can see what windows are currently open. Cool little feature, but I'm curious if I can move it to a different corner of the screen. Does anyone know how I can move it, or at least disable it?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have windows 7 on my laptop (Dell Studio model). I have installed fedora 12 onto my machine in the unallocated space, the installation went smoothly. If I login to the fedora directly then every thing works fine. but if I login to Window 7 and again try to re-login into fedora 12 after shutting down the winows 7 then the booting screen will become black (almost invisible) even though I can be able to login and can go to the desktop (which is also very least visible) if i click on suspend and then click on the power button then the screen will become properly visible.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just rebuilt my fedora box and I'm having some problems getting dual monitors to work. First, I can't reposition my secondary monitor to be on the left. It thinks it's on the right. I can use xrandr to fix this, but that is annoying. Is there no way to do this in the display properties? Second, maximizing a window makes it go across all screens. I unchecked this option in the display properties.I also unchecked the one for letting windows be in multiple monitors at once, but this still happens.

I'm using 64bit version of adobe flash player called "Square", which work's fine for ....., but when i try to switch to full screen on site warcraftmovies(they're using player Minoto i believe) it's working strange. If I open a new Firefox and I haven't played any other video from ..... for instance, it works fine and switches to full screen no problem, but If i exit full screen and try to switch to full screen again, it will give me only black screen. If i click on the window border of firefox the video comes up again, but not maximized, only normal window. I tried running firefox from terminal to see erorrs and whenever i try to maximize the player it gives me this error

i have just upgraded to 10.10 from 10.04. i have an acer netbook (d250 one). i had boot loading screen problems with 10.04 too. i hoped that this issue will be fixed with the upgrade but not. after the grub menu, a black screen appers until the password prompt screen. there is no purple loading screen, just a black screen. is it a plymouth prob? also i realised that when i playing videos in videos the sound crashes a bit. i'm using google chromium. but my main problem is the booting one not the flashplugin. the new 'ubuntu' font is awesome. i <3 it.

So, I bought a Geforce 6200 hoping that would help, but I am still getting issues. Firstly, I cannot play full screen Flash. I know this has been asked before but all of the solutions I have tried have failed. Also, I would like to know if it is possible to play AVI files, as I d/l a few.

I have been installing these updates on Fedora 12 and so far, my computer now has 3 more fedora sub-versions "not sure if that IS their name". So when I first boot the pc, the 3 versions appear. Normally, that wouldn't seem like a problem "although I don't know why don't the new ones simply delete the old ones"..However, the new ones don't work. Only the oldest form which I installed through a CD is the one that works. The others just cause the computer screen to flash a couple of times and freezes.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhat happens is that the sound will disappear, either without any apparent reason, otherwise when I move the mouse, or pause vlc, or open up another application, in most cases FF. I have also seen the mouse flash while vlc is in fullscreen, and immediately afterward the sound is gone. When the sound disappears, the gnome-volume-control will disappear and reappear on the top taskbar. Also there will be no device under the hardware and input tab of the sound preferences when the sound disappears.
Killing and restarting the pulseaudio daemon from the cli will return the appropriate choices under sound preferences hardware/input tabs, as well as the audio. This could happen a couple of times in the period of an hour. Usually restarting vlc will solve the problem, or restarting the pulseaudio daemon. Another thing I have noticed is that I will occassionally have to kill the vlc process through the system monitor or cli, as closing vlc will not remove it from the taskbar. I have tried the fix shown here, to no avail. Using kernel 2.6.30.9-96.fc11.x86_64 on a hp dv3-2154ca.

i tried to install ubuntu netbook remix edition 10.04 on my laptop HP Compaq 550 through a usb flash stick ... with the usb creator which included into the iso image i got this msg (( attached screen-shot )) .i tried another application which makes a usb bootable disk called "UNetbootin" it boots successfully but after booting every thing got FREEZED ... i tried the same thing with ubuntu 9.10 it's succeed .. but i neeed to install 10.04 .
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have used Ubuntu since 7-4; I now have 10.4. However, in the last week I have been taken to the login screen three times. This could be potentially calamitous. Ctrl+Alt +Backspace have by default been disable since 9-4. There is no way I am pressing atl+Prtscr +K. I wonder if there is a new zap command in 10.4, and if so, how to disable it. I have never found the need to go back back to the login window. I am generally using the command line when doing this.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was wandering around the system parameters and saw that there was an option to activate a non-open nvidia driver for my Asus Emachine EL1200 with Ubuntu 8.04 install (pre-installed, worked fine for a year now). So I did. However, when I restarted, my screen resolution was changed to 800*600 or so, no good. Although I could not see the right part of the same "nvidia" window, I managed to deactivate the driver. Regretfully when restarting the screen resolution was still 800*600. I thought it was 1440*900 for my Asus VK192S-B (checked it on internet) but it didn't work (did not check the refreshrate at that time). So I stared to fiddle around and stupidly accepted a 1280 * 800. As I said before the resolution is completely f***up now. I have about 4 copies of my desktop and the worst part is there are lines over it and I can not see what the windows say. I manage to get the resolution config screen, but can not get the right optios selected, working "blindfolded".
I looked at this helpful forum and identified the /etc/x11/xorg.conf file as the important file. Also I saw a xorg.conf.failsafe file with my original config! With the recovery cd of Asus I managed o set up a live session and actually can open the xorg.conf file and see the damned line with 1280*800. Regretfully the original /etc folder as well as the original home folder cannot be written in, or copied. Permission problems, as could be expected. I have some backup, but not of quite a lot of photos I uploadd from my camera recently. Reinstalling from scratch is fo the moment not an option.
I have already downloaded and installed the latest version of Adobe Flashplayer...

I am having trouble getting adobe-flash to properly work on fedora. I have done it before but on a different distribution, and i am migrating to fedora.
