I saw many linux OSes have a smooth stability with sun virtualbox.for example VBoxaddons already initially installed.I installed fedora 12 x86_x64 (within vbox in xp64bit)but only 800x600 resolution is avaible.Smooth Mouse jumping from Pc to vbox etc.
1.is there any good installer that have already packages initially installing for virtualbox ?
2.Which version listed below have x64 kernel?
trying to understand the two underlined sentences below I got to ask Step by step. I created a new group called usb. I inserted a usb printer and scanner. I tried to find the file usbfs and there is where get stuck already. I only can find a folder with that name. The sentence (3 -) makes almost no sense to me.
a) modify file /etc/fstab clear open terminal, go to etc, su gedit fstab
b) inserting a line yes I understand that!
c) the right path and the number corresponding the "usb" group :

2 - locate file usbfs: in my case is /sys/bus/usb/drivers (I suggest to find the file with a usb device inserted;
3 - modify file /etc/fstab inserting a line containing the right path and the number corresponding the "usb" group :

I would like to make a bootable Ubuntu system on a USB stick from a full install, so I can update the packages/kernel etc, and I would also like to have the ability to Install ubuntu from the USB stick onto other computers. What package allows you to run the installer that is found on the LiveCD?
Also, is it possible to have a Ubuntu installer that uses updated packages rather than the LiveCD so they are current when installed rather than the release packages to save on the download/updating time?
I am using VirtualBox with Win-XP installed which works perfectly But after doing updates in my F13 today the scale wont work in the VirtualBox in full-screen mode Initially scale works when I place the mouse in the top-left corner but it's not working now and nothing happens Ive googled and tried settings in CCSM but I really have no idea why scale doest work in VirtualBox full-screen now this is really extremely inconvenient as i cant switch back to my F13 unless I switch to windows mode in my VirtualBox.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to test 10.04 Lucid 32-bit within 9.10 using VirtualBox. Guest additions aren't working fully--I can copy and paste text, but my mouse pointer still gets captured. No indications of any problems during installation. Also, I get the "Ubuntu is running in low-graphics mode" error message starting up, indicating Ubuntu can't detect the hardware properly. Screen size is stuck at 800x600.
I've tried reinstalling Guest Additions, increasing Video Ram to 128MB, and putting screen resolution and vbox device data into xorg.conf. Nothing changes. Actually, there is no xorg.conf on the system, only an xorg.conf.failsafe. I modified that, no effect--though the file gets overwritten on boot up to be what it was originally. I also tried adding my own xorg.conf. That doesn't get overwritten, but also has no effect.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to use the amd64 version of the natty mini iso installer. The installer crashes with the log stating bad address us.archive.ubuntu.com. This is true for any archive I select. error is: mirror does not support the specified release (natty) Anyone know of a working mirror or if one will ever work? Not a confidence builder in the development.
I also tried the Maveric version of the mini iso. It also crashes with complaints about a bad kernel. So far a wasted day. Just add to this I tried the normal natty iso. The problem is in the manual partitioning. It locks up solid while trying to set partitions. Is there a later release of the iso?
I've been trying to work out how to get a "full" debian installer (ie, not a netinst installer but as much as you'd find on say, the first CD) onto a bootable USB stick.Most of the tutorials I've seen work with the netboot installers only.The installer works until the "Detect and mount CD-ROM" step where it wants to mount a CD drive. Won't accept /dev/sdb or whatever device the USB stick is.

It is just a question regarding ISO and the lack of -o loop or function of busybox.One can custom the ISO of debian-installer and make a syslinux config file having : vmlinuz of one normally running installed Debian distro, and keep the initrd of the iso regular debian-installer.I think it may be conflicting the vmlinuz kernel version and the installer of initrd.I am learning, so it may be completely wrong or kernel panic.

I have used VirtualBox for a few years and just adding the user to group vboxusers used to work.Before that I had to add the user to usbusers or something like that. Now niether completely work.I say completely, because the only usb device available for use is my printer nothing else. Here is what I have done: added 'user' to the group vboxusers (gave me usb printer access but nothing else)
-attempted an old fix involving mounting /proc/dev/usb/ (or something like that) and get an error that that file does not exist ran virtualbox with sudo with full functionality (just to see)
I swear I was using this about 6 months ago with no issue. I also have installed extensions pack, and need to say I have tried every forum suggestion I could find before coming here.
I downgraded a computer a couple of weeks ago from -current to 13.1. At that point in time the USB support in my Virtualbox stopped working. Since then I have installed Virtualbox on my wife's laptop, which also runs 13.1, and the USB support doesn't work there either. So I tried it on yet another 13.1 box that I have lying around no USB support. Then I upgraded the latter box to -current and USB works! Given that sequence of events, I'm pretty sure this is a Slackware 13.1 problem rather than a Virtualbox problem. what might be causing this?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using vmware and virtualbox for experimenting with different linux distros and for using windows... When I switch to full screen, the upper portion(about 50px from top) of system becomes unusable because I am not able to click with my mouse anywhere there. So ubuntu's top panel becomes unaccesible and for vmware, once it becomes full screen I am not able to minimize/restore/close it.
In full screen mode, looking at the mouse cursor, it seems to be controlled by guest system when in full screen but as soon as I move it to top of the screen, the host machine takes control of it and then I cannot access any top panels or vmware toolbar. Is there any solution to this problem... Please let me know if more information is needed from my side.I am using opensuse 11.3, KDE4.4.4, vmware 3.1.2/virtualbox 3.2.10. The problem is for both vmware and virtualbox.
I have a Samsung Jet S8000, which reports to have the following bluetooth services: Headset, Handsfree, Bluetooth stereo headset, Serial port, Dial-up, Basic printing, File Transfer, Object push, SIM access, Phonebook access. When I search for bluetooth devices and find my notebook (kubuntu 10.04, kbluetooth installed), my phone reports that this device (i.e. the notebook) has only the Object push bluetooth service. Whereas Windows (without installing any software) offers to use my mobile as a modem, to browse its content, to be a handsfree headset, etc...
From my phone I can send files to the notebook, but I need to make about 4 trials to succeed once - in the other 3 cases the file sending process stops on the phone with a 'Sending failed' message...What is the problem with this? Where should I debug? What software should I install to have full access to my phone? Is there an app to easily synchronize my phonebooks? bitpim and gnokii don't seem to support this phone.
I have a problem with mediatomb. I installed it from official ubuntu repo and when someone is trying to get some audio files via UPnP there are visible only namefiles istead of title from tags. It strange because MediaTomb provides album covers from tags, but no album, genre or title. How do I configure that ? MediaTomb from repo has taglib support but no id3lib.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI made a full install of Slackware and have been using one of my boxes as an Apache web server. I recently tried to install Joomla, the PHP CMS software, and when I ran the pre-install requisite checker (The second step of the installation), the installer notified me that I do not have MySQL support. I find this especially strange as I've made webpages using PHP that made use of MySQL databases.
My pre-post research has lead me to several other people with the same problem. Half were using windows, and just had not uncommented the "extension mysql.so" line in the php.ini file. The other half solved their problem by installing their distro's php-mysql module. According to what I'd read, you can still use MySQL if you don't have that module installed, but Joomla does need it to be able to use the MySQL database.
I've searched long and hard for this plugin/add-on/module for Slackware, but to no avail. It's available in RPM format, and I know that it's possible to use rpm2tgz to convert these files, but I don't know exactly what the issue is, and if Slackware may be different. I don't want to install that and then find out that it overwrote something that I'd needed.
My boss is asking me if there is any way to run a full version of Ubuntu from a flash drive without installing virtualbox/vmware on a windows host. I've been searching pendrivelinux.com and really haven't found anything. Can someone point me in the right direction?

we are working on a project which uses Fedora as the operating system. we are running our deliverables on up to 20+ machines of identical specifications, we have perused the whole package list (presented in the standard installer) and have a confirmed list of modules we wish to include, and we wish to know if there's anyone out there who is interested in writing a scripted installer which can be ran on the machines to perform unattended installation of F14/F15 on all the machines. a partial re-branding of the installer and boot screen would also be needed (to put it simple : adding the logo/some text of our project to existing Fedora brandings, while making sure the user will know the nice Fedora experience is embedded within in whole). please reply if you have interest in it and the know-how, and how much you wish to be reimbursed for your effort.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI currently run windows 7, I am interested in dual booting, upon burning the .iso to the disc using imgburn, I had a few problems with the installer when I ran the live disc, I'll assume it was personal causes, I googled several things for a simple solution, I went with using the Disk Manager in Windows 7 to shrink my current partition which I only have one which is running Win 7 on 140 GB's, using the shrink function in windows I unallocated 20 GB of that partition, I used this option because the option in F11's installer would not work at all. I rebooted from disc, loading the distro, and run the installer via desktop choose the use free space option and I got an error crash when it tries to execute this option which isnt the only time I got this error bug causing me to exit the installer, I copied the debug information in the details, I hope this is something simple because F11 isn't worth this much time.

i try to boot off the cd, it loads vmlinz and init.rd, anaconda starts loading.it mounts the temp filesystem and freezes. i can't choose how to install or anything. nothing comes up graphically.

Well I did some research then and found out EasyBCD 2.0 support booting from .iso files.Tought thats gonna be good idea to give a try but it just doesnt work I keep getting "grub>" or something like that.Another useful tool I found was "Unetbootin" which I saw can be boot from Hard Drive too.With this I get some blue screen loading some white thing and then "bang" error appears that "Sleeping forever". I guess its related that I boot off from HDD.If anyone have any good ideas how should I get it working or manually boot kernel in that "grub>" part ( which I tried but said file not found)
I am trying to install Fedora Core 10 64bit on my Desktop... i've been running FC7 on it until now.The installer continues until the Anaconda GUI, and I am able to click next on language select, then when I click to select "U. I have this laptop that I just reformatted in hopes of doing a dual boot between XP and FC4. It is an Acer Aspire 5315-2153 (the Wal-Mart special). I reformatted the drive; the Windows partition is in NTFS and then I have a 10GB partition in FAT32 for Linux. When I try to install FC4, the disk boots into the installer, then it tells me that it does not recognize any hard drives (the disk in this laptop is a Hitachi HTS541680J9SA00). It asks me if I want to load any drivers, and I tried a few and still no success. Any way, after it goes through that, it tries to start anaconda and after that launches it goes to a black screen and nothing happens. So, did I do anything wrong in the Windows install that won't allow the disk to be found? The XP disk only allows a format in NTFS, otherwise I would have done FAT32 on the whole drive. Second, is the anaconda problem something related to the HDD issue, or does anyone think that it may be a separate issue?
View 14 Replies View RelatedWhen using the manual partitioner on the fedora 11 installer on the live cd, both for 64 bit and 32 bit, it will not allow me to create a new partition. I understand that I have four primary partitions and it cannot have more than that, so I tried deleting one of the partitions, then creating the new ext4 partition for F11. It still fails and gives me the same bugsee attachment)
how to read this, especially since there is so much there. I see at the top it says that there are 4 primary partitions, could it possibly still be seeing 4 primary partitions when trying to create the new one, even though I am deleting one of them? Other than this, I truly have no idea what else I can do.

I tried to install Fedora 11 on computer with Windows XP as the primary partition, and Fedora 11 as a logical partition. The version of anaconda that ships with Fedora 11 has a bug in the graphical installer, the GUI. The text version of the installer starts up but does not let the user use logical partitions.I have installed Fedora 6 using the graphical installer, and logical partitions.Is there a new version of anaconda for Fedora 11? or Could I use the Fedora 6 anaconda to install Fedora 11?

We are try to install Fedora 12 or Fedora 13 x86_64 on HP Server Blade ProLiant BL460c G6. And when the installer try to find storage devices - it can not find any hard drivers. We are have message on screen - "Finding storage devices" and the installation process is not continue.... Fedora 10 and Fedora 11 x86_64 are installed very well. The device /dev/cciss/c0d0 is present in system and all it partitions - c0d0p1, c0d0p2 ... Command fdisk -l /dev/cciss/c0d0 has no any output.
