Ubuntu :: Get Full Bluetooth Support For Samsung S8000?
Aug 19, 2010
I have a Samsung Jet S8000, which reports to have the following bluetooth services: Headset, Handsfree, Bluetooth stereo headset, Serial port, Dial-up, Basic printing, File Transfer, Object push, SIM access, Phonebook access. When I search for bluetooth devices and find my notebook (kubuntu 10.04, kbluetooth installed), my phone reports that this device (i.e. the notebook) has only the Object push bluetooth service. Whereas Windows (without installing any software) offers to use my mobile as a modem, to browse its content, to be a handsfree headset, etc...
From my phone I can send files to the notebook, but I need to make about 4 trials to succeed once - in the other 3 cases the file sending process stops on the phone with a 'Sending failed' message...What is the problem with this? Where should I debug? What software should I install to have full access to my phone? Is there an app to easily synchronize my phonebooks? bitpim and gnokii don't seem to support this phone.

I have tried many times to solve it using xorg.conf but still unable to do it.

I upgraded my netbook (HP Mini 5101) from 9.10 to 10.04 yesterday. Everthing (including bluetooth) seemed to work, as it did before. Today I tried to install a 2.6.35 kernel from maverick backports (the kernel ppa), but it didn't work for me and I removed it again. Now my bluetooth is gone (bluetooth applet does not show any devices) but wireless still works.
I already tried to remove and reinstall the driver package via apt-get (sudo apt-get un/install bcmwl-kernel-source bcmwl-modaliases) but nothing helped. code...

I'm running Slackware with 2.6.26 kernel. I've got bluez-utils,libs version 3.26 (Slackware 12.1 precompiled package), and kdebluetooth. I'm using a Digicom Palladio Usb Bluetooth adapter. In general, bluetooth seems to work; I can send files to my Nokia phone. Now, I've got this Bluetooth stereo headset (brand rather unknown, and I've thrown the package away, I've only got the little user manual, and there is no indication on who built this thing).
This is what I've tried so far:
- turn the headset on and turned pairing mode on;
- kbluetooth -> Configuration -> Input devices (input?) -> Search;
- kbluetooth finds the headset and asks that I insert the pin code; a little star appears next to the name of the headset ("Stereo Headset"), but after a couple of seconds disappears and at the same time I hear a beep coming from the headset (disconnection?). Anyway, just before the beep, noise came from the headset (as if it had turned on), then, after the beep, nothing.
- Important thing: the headset manual says the Usb dongle must support A2DP and AVRCP. I don't know how to find out whether my dongle supports them, anyway, if I execute 'sdptool', in the "Services" section I get: [Code} ....
Does this mean that bluez/my usb dongle doesn't support A2DP? Anyway, I followed the instructions on "Bluez - Trac - AudioDevices" [URL] and added the specified part to .asoundrc. Of cource, even if I tell xine to use "bluetooth" as pcm device, it says the device is unknown.

I have a problem with mediatomb. I installed it from official ubuntu repo and when someone is trying to get some audio files via UPnP there are visible only namefiles istead of title from tags. It strange because MediaTomb provides album covers from tags, but no album, genre or title. How do I configure that ? MediaTomb from repo has taglib support but no id3lib.

I made a full install of Slackware and have been using one of my boxes as an Apache web server. I recently tried to install Joomla, the PHP CMS software, and when I ran the pre-install requisite checker (The second step of the installation), the installer notified me that I do not have MySQL support. I find this especially strange as I've made webpages using PHP that made use of MySQL databases.
My pre-post research has lead me to several other people with the same problem. Half were using windows, and just had not uncommented the "extension mysql.so" line in the php.ini file. The other half solved their problem by installing their distro's php-mysql module. According to what I'd read, you can still use MySQL if you don't have that module installed, but Joomla does need it to be able to use the MySQL database.
I've searched long and hard for this plugin/add-on/module for Slackware, but to no avail. It's available in RPM format, and I know that it's possible to use rpm2tgz to convert these files, but I don't know exactly what the issue is, and if Slackware may be different. I don't want to install that and then find out that it overwrote something that I'd needed.

Camangi WebStation (android pen tablet)
Incredibly poor Wifi connectivity (No WPA, not even WEP full support), missing ether plug. Easy to freeze. Poor input method. Considerable pricing. poor applications. (not android-market compatible) not well organized web pages.
My impression: You have a right to buy. It is up to you, if you want to. It is your responsibility.

The bluetooth manager does not detect a bluetooth dongle .trying to use ndiswrapper to fix.I installed device manager and the results are shown below.i downloaded the windows driver suite. It has 4 .exe self extracting driver archives and a setupconfig.ini. The .ini file is below.I was able to extract one of the 32bit archives on a windows machine and it had about 8 .inf files that are titled weird and would not install properly using ndiswrapper probably because im using the 64-bit architecture. there are 2 64bit .exe's in the driver download, but how can i extract them in ubuntu and do i really need to install all 8 .inf files. also do i actually need to make a .inf file? if so how?

I'm trying to find out when QME2572 (Qlogic) card became support by the kernel. We have a RHEL 5.1 system that is moving to new hardware, however the kernel at this release doesn't support the new hardware, due to the Qlogic card change. I tired the Redhat KB and Bugzilla. Is there a Kernel change list etc I can search. Never really played around with the kernel too much so I'm just after some pointers for looking up this information. Offically its not supported until Redhat 5.3, I'm trying trying to research kernel info so I can tell the customer they have to upgrade.

I'm looking to dual-boot Windows 7 and Debian 6 upon its release on my sister's laptop. I want to share a partition between the two of them so that /home points to this directory and the Windows equivalent also points to it (C:Users).
Anyway, I've heard good and bad things about the NTFSMount driver (I think it's NTFS-3G now) and the NTFSprogs project and so I am not so certain what I should believe. I do know that NTFS has relatively high overhead, though I do not recall the source of this assertion, so I am considering the use of EXFAT. An open source EXFAT project is hosted on Google Code at [url] and it utilizes the kernel module FUSE.
I'm quite certain that I've got everything covered on the Windows side -- that is, I know that both NTFS and EXFAT will be suitable filesystems for my required usage.
My issue is that I'm curious which will have superior performance and stability in Debian. I planned on building the package from source and mounting the device in my FSTAB but I have also found a PPA for Ubuntu on Launchpad at [url] that I could borrow the debian/rules from and make a .deb package from.
What do you guys think? Should I go at it with the EXFAT or NTFS partitioning? Is NTFS-3G actually fairly supported at this point? Or perhaps should I consider some alternate method?
I have also considered that the only files she will be sharing are those of music, videos, and pictures so it could be better to just link /home/xxxx/Pictures (Music and Videos, too) to the new partition instead of all of /home.

This obnoxious bar has just appeared in Smplayer at the top of the screen. It stays there even when I go full screen. Now full screen isn't full screen and there are black edges on both sides of the screen. I have not be able to figure out how to hide it. I do not need or want this onscreen display. How can I configure Smplayer to make this go away? How can I get my 16:9 full screen aspect ratio back? I have done nothing to mplayer or smplayer as far as editing any or changing any configuration files. I tried several videos and it displays on all of them. It was not there last time I used Smplayer.

My server is showing as 95% full, but when I check any folders underneath and files, they add up to about only a few percentage of the space.
- /tmp - 2GB LUN
- currently using 1.8GB of the 2GB
- files in the directory add up to only 50MB (I've checked for hidden files as well.. 'ls -lah'
Anyway else of telling how /tmp can have so much usage when there appears there is hardly anything in it?
What will happen to the server if /tmp is full?

I've just gotmy new phone a SamsungGT-S5230! My problem is:I can't transfer any file from my ubuntu desktop over to my phone. On the CD it came with there is only a windows software called "PC Studio" and Windows drivers. As I plug in the phone via USB to the PC it offers 3 options: PC Studio, Media Storage, Background Storage. If I pick one of the first 2 options my phone says it is connected, and charges via USB. The third option says "Please Insert a MicroSD card". (I don't have such at home). Ubuntu can't see my phone, none of the options seem to work. Maybe I should buy a MicroSD card? Or is there a workaround for the windows software to run ubder Linux? I tried to install t with WINE, but it froze during the installation.

I have just purchased the Samsung N150 net-book. The reason for purchasing was so I could watch movies, listen to music and browse on the go. It came with windows 7 starter and a load of pre installed Samsung crap. I was wondering whether Ubuntu would be a better choice for me since I only really want, Chrome, VLC, Spotify, MSN and Dev++ compiler.
I am very computer literate doing programming at Uni, but have not used Linux before. Also there's loads of Samsung software for extending battery life or something. Will I be able to install that on Ubuntu or not?

I run a couple Ubuntu machines in the house, my wife runs XP, there's an eee, etc. I got a Samsung ML-02851ND printer thinking that I could just plug it into my router and then install the printer on all of the various machines and I could print from them. I guess I realize that I can hook up the printer to a host machine and go that route, but i thought the whole point was to hook the printer up to the router.

I am trying to use my Samsung YP-K3 player with Ubuntu 9.10. Many people report that Ubuntu fails to recognize similar players and some fiddling with Amorak is necessary. However, my system recognizes the player fine, and I can copy files to it without any difficulties. However, the player itself fails to recognise the files that are copied to it via Ubuntu. It will play the files that were previously copied to it via Windows fine, and I can go back and copy edit the playlist in Windows and everything works accordingly, it just seems Ubuntu is copying the files over in a non-supported format or something, which is weird, because they're all just standard MP3 files, many of which were originally created under Windows.
